Any PC enthusiast and gamer knows that having the right amount of power for their rig is one of the most important aspects of a stable system. SeaSonic presents the M12D SS-850 power supply that pumps 850W to vital peripherals, like advanced video cards. Not only does it perform well, but it looks great too with its durable black satin finish. The M12D SS-850 is also 80PLUS Silver Certified for high efficiency.
Multi video card setups are easily accommodated by four 6pin PCI-E connectors, two of which can be modulated up to 8pins. You’ll also enjoy having eleven SATA and eight 4pin molex power connectors for all of your storage devices and optical drives. The power supply features solid caps on its +12V rails and an active PFC so your system only gets pure power at proper voltage.
The M12D SS-850 also features a silent fan with built-in smart control to keep your system cool. You’ll also appreciate the high grade black mesh that wraps the cabling to help protect your power supply and components. Best of all, the PSU is modular, so you only have to use the cables you need, increasing air flow in your case. Make the SeaSonic M12D SS-850 the power supply for all of your PC needs today!

Great PSU
- Pros: Small size. Plenty of cables and adapters for everything. Enough power for my i7 rig. Installation was easy (although had a little bit of trouble fitting it into my Antec P182 case, but nothing a few cable ties couldn't fix). So far has proven to be reliable and I keep my computer powered on throughout most of the day.
- Cons: A Bit Pricey.
If you are looking for efficiency over wattage I would definitely recommend this power supply otherwise just get a 1000W 80 Plus Certified PSU and it'll do the same thing as this one for probably a lower price.
- Other Thoughts: I use my rig mostly for HD Video Editing, 3D Title Effects, and Gaming and so far this power supply has done a great job of powering my rig for just what I need. I have not tested to see how far I can take it, but for what I have used it for it seems to be more than proficient.
I haven't had to deal with SeaSonic's customer service yet, because I haven't had any issues with this PSU so I can't say anything about that. But this product has proven to be more than a good investment so far.
Using it on: Intel Core i7 CPU 920 Nehalem (overclocked to 3.0GHz) 6GB G.Skill RAM EVGA E578 1366 X58 Motherboard (2X) WD Caviar Green 1TB Hard Drives (1X) WD Caviar Black 500GB Hard Drive GTX280 Graphics Card
High quality 850w option
- Pros: Price is the best in it's power /quality class. I got mine for $139 shipped.
Great efficiency - Pulls less from the wall, under identical conditions, than my other high end unit did (brand = prop driven fighter airplane).
Rock solid 12v, 5v, and 3.3v, even under heavy load with SLI GTX285's and I7 @ 4200mhz.
Lots of cables for all types of uses.
Nice fat 13 amp power cord.
- Cons: Warranty is only 5 years as compared to the 7 the competition offers.
Power cord is only 5 feet long. All the ones I've ever had up to this point have been 6 feet???
I wish they'd just use a 4+4pin for the EPS 12v, rather than a 4+4 in addition to the 8pin. I hate trying to tuck that extra hardwired cord away.
- Other Thoughts: FYI: Under full load of linpack and furmark concurrently, I'm pulling ~870w from the wall. At the efficiency rating of this unit, at the wattage (86%), my system is using 748.2w.
This is with an i7 W3520 @ 210x21 (4200mhz) and a pair of GTX285's at 780-1687-1440. Plus 2 ddc pumps and 5 fans.

Great power supply
- Pros: Very quiet, stable power supply with great price various lengths of modular cables for precise fits, makes it easy to manage cables . Hey folks Seasonic makes their own and other companies commission seasonic to make units for them. These people know what they're doing.
- Cons: I ordered to soon to get the free surge protector?
DOA
- Pros: Usually Dependable company. Big enough power supply for low cost. Crossfire supported for high-end GPU's.
- Cons: DOA. Never thought it would happen to me...especially on first online purchase. I was dumb for not instantly checking if it powered up. I installed my new vid card, and psu, and ran the cables and tied them off, made it nice and pretty. Hook everything up, and go to turn on but nothing happens.
- Other Thoughts: My first ever online purchase...end up being a dud. I had previously bought a Diamond 5850 card, and the return policy is only 30 days. I don't know if the card works/runs well. Bought the power supply a week later and now I've got 13 days left. Just RMA'd yesterday, and Newegg has been great with the process.
Also make sure you have room for this puppy. I kinda scrapped this thing fitting it in behind my cd/dvd player. The cables that aren't modular were pressing right against it.
So far so good
- Pros: -Quiet
-Feels (heavy) and looks like high quality
-So far handles my overclocked quad core with no problem at all, as expected
-the semi-modular design is nice IMO, although there are a couple hardwired connectors you will still probably not use.
-main mobo power cables are a good length; i was just barely able to hide the EPS 12V cable tho. whew.
-very high efficiency , 80% to 87% most of the time it seems
- Cons: -No where does it explain which cables use which rail on this dual rail system. annoying!!
-the fan is always on it seems, even if its dam quiet most the time
-expensive, even when it's the door crasher for a boxing day sale. Canadians always get ripped off it seems.
- Other Thoughts: It's an all-around excellent power supply. It might not be the 'best', but there is no arguing that it is one of the best. It will meet the demands of nearly all consumers, whatever the requirements may be.
It's made by seasonic, which is an OEM manufacture for lots of other great PSU brands. Kinda hard to say one brand is better quality than another when both are made by the same company- defective products are unavoidable!! It's straight up black - doesn't look ugly, but it doesnt really seem that fancy either. Racing stripes would of been enough to please me. =P
For the price, I kinda wish this PSU offered a few more innovations; maybe better cable management features, but a guy cant have everything i guess. Maybe a built in power meter LCD thing? Dunno. Something.
