1 out of 5 eggsNot for fast drives

Pros: It's little. It has fw800.

Cons: Doesn't work with 10K 2.5"
It is to shallow for fast drives. They don't fit.
There is not enough power for the 10k drives.

Other Thoughts: They call this a "Super Speed" enclosure for 2.5" sata drives. But it won't work with fast 2.5" 10k drives!!! The enclosure does not fit the thickness of the drive and there is not enough power to run the drive... So it is useless for the really fast drives that can make use of the 1394B and USB3 ports. They really need to make clear in their specs that it DOES NOT WORK with fast 10k drives like the WD6000BLHX and such. Nowhere in their spec is this evident.

2 out of 5 eggsSolid but Difficult Case

Pros: - Case design seems rugged and sturdy, although I wouldn't rely on it to keep dust out
- FW800 is fast, as always
- I guess those ridges could arguably help with heat dissipation? Or maybe they just look nice.

Cons: - Case seems way more complicated than necessary to assemble. One set of screws holds the sled inside the exterior and then another set holds the internal circuitry to the sled; I had to completely disassemble it to install my drive.
- The mount points for the external screws have a very narrow tolerance and it took a couple of tries to get everything lined up, ultimately resulting in a damaged screw head when one got stuck.
- Those screws don't go in flush meaning the drive rests slightly on those screw heads. If you have a nice wood desk you care at all about, you'll probably wind up like me and use the drive upside down so they don't scratch the surface.

Other Thoughts: Anybody know where I can find some small, stick on rubber feet?

1 out of 5 eggsPoor interface design

Pros: * Only 2.5" enclosure I have seen that supports both USB 3.0 and Firewire 800.
* Has an on/off switch.
* Comes with USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 cables, plus AC adapter.
* Sturdy, minimalist design.

Cons: * The enclosure seems to see the disk differently when it is connected via USB vs. Firewire or vice versa. At least on my Mac (10.6.7), partitions created while the enclosure is connected via USB cannot be mounted if the enclosure is later mounted via Firewire. The same is true in the reverse. Likewise, a volume created on my Mac while connected via Firewire cannot be seen on my PC while connected via USB. But I can see the volume if it is created while connected via USB in the first place.
* Poor manufacturing quality or design. Four screws stick out of the bottom, on near each corner. Should have rubber feet covering those or at least they should screw in flush with the case but they do not.

Other Thoughts: The inability to mount volumes either via USB or via Firewire means that the perception of flexibility is just that, a perception. You basically have to choose either USB or Firewire when you format the drive and you cannot then connect the other way unless you intend to reformat the drive again. For most people this will mean that the enclosure is really only useful connected via USB, but at the same time, for most people that means USB 2.0 and not 3.0.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enclosure

Pros: Good quality. It has a black aluminum body and it comes with both USB 3.0 and the Firewire 800 cables.

Cons: The USB 3.0 cable is specific to this enclosure so I don't think it will be easy to find if you lose it.

Other Thoughts: This is the only USB 3.0 and Firewire 800 enclosure out there. I sreached everywhere and I couldn't find one that has both interfaces. Thanks New Egg
