5 out of 5 eggsNice Power Supply

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Nice modular power supply and a great price after rebate. The fan is so quiet that I worry it isn't working. Cables are plenty long.

Cons: None

2 out of 5 eggs24 PIN WONT FIT AGAIN???

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It works at this time. hope it works forever after this ordeal.

Cons: you need to be handy to fit this to mobo; poorest qualtiy control on 24 pin; could destroy your mobo, scar your fingers.

Other Thoughts: My first corsair psu..This is the second unit though (a replacement for one that has 24 pin that can't be pushed in all the way- reason pin is 0.42mm wider than my previous psu that fits on all 4 motherboards . Yes I had to find and use my caliper to get to the bottom of the issue in the 3rd hr (3hrs)). 7days later, I got this replacement, I first measured it and this one is narrower by 0.05mm compared to my standard psu that fits, so happily, I proceeded in installing this one. Guess what, I could not fit this thing the same way as the first one. Tried to measure again. This one should fit due to given tolerance. 2hours- I did everything in my power not to split my motherboard or soldering in the board by resting my left fingers below the board while pushing the 24pin with my right hand- it never worked. If I forced it in, something is gonna give. Until...... I used a paperclip. I hope I don't need to return this one for any functional reason in the future.

3 out of 5 eggs"Good" PSU - Lousy 24 Pin latch

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Recently built a budget gaming PC
For what it's worth, it's a good little power supply
It's modular so cable management was a charm and it works for my needs. Pretty quiet too. My laptop is louder than it sooo works as advertised I guess.

Cons: BE WARNED:
This little bugger and the rest of the CX series is NOTORIOUS for having a terrible 24-pin latch (I learned that the hard way - Could not for the life of me get that bugger in for 2 hours WITH excessive force - luckily I had a pretty durable mobo with thick PCB)
Also I was told that the CX series used cheap CapXon (or whatever you call them) capacitors which makes the CX series pretty bad for your system. Though I'm quite surprised my CX PSU has been working well for me. Then again I've only had my system for about 2 weeks now at the time of this review....welp

Other Thoughts: If you're on a budget, it's a good psu. Really the CX is the only "flop" series that Corsair has to offer
My recommendation: if you have the cash, spend a little more on the AX or HX series....or find a different PSU in general
otherwise, buy this when it's on sale
It could work for you, it could not. It worked for me, but I do not lie when I say that attaching this PSU to my mobo was the most difficult part of building my computer

5 out of 5 eggsHighly Recommended Power Supply!

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: It worked out of the box! Had more than enough cables for my setup. I love how you can connect and disconnect cables to the power supply. Some power supplies has all the cables "built-in" and you have to deal with it. Then you have a mess of wires all over the place. For what I needed it for, I only needed 1 wire added on the power supply. The rest I didn't connect to it. Did some wire management in the back of my case, looks VERY clean. I'm happy with my choice of power supplies.

Cons: None!

5 out of 5 eggsRuns nicely

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: -Able to handle GTX 465 overclocked to 800MHz, and FX-6300 up to 4.5GHz
-Modular PSU, first I have ever owned
-No rats nest

Cons: None so far, will update this review when something arises.

Other Thoughts: Other than having my first modular power supply, which is cool, nothing comes to mind at the moment.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Bad Not Great

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: No obstructions of the interior fan.

Back vent is well ventilated.

Power supply chassis is slightly smaller than other 500W units...in terms of "front to back" depth, which can be helpful in some PC cases.

It didn't blow up or smell that bad when I powered it only.

Cons: SATA power connections are stiff, almost feels like they are slightly too small to plug into a storage device power connector.

SATA power leads have 1 with 3 SATA plugs and 1 with 2 SATA plugs, but both cables can plug into the same connectors on the power supply. Humm, what's up with that?

All Molex connectors are on a separate connector string including a Berg connector for floppy. Really? A hardwired Berg connector for floppy in this era? I would have preferred a Berg to Molex "pigtail" that I could remove, if necessary, to expose another Molex connector.

Hardwired CPU power connector is a solid 8 pin plug, not a split 4+4 pin plug. So on boards where you only have a 4 pin socket you have to use an 8-pin to 4-pin CPU power adapter, or "hang" the 8-pin plug "over the side"...both are "fail" for builders wanting a nice clean build. Not to mention, on some motherboards there is no space next to the 4-pin CPU power socket to "hang" part of a solid plug "over the side". This definitely got an Egg knocked off.

All interior cables except for the motherboard power cable are "flat strip" style cables. Not my preference and I sure don't see any gain to using them.

For the price of this product, I think there there are others that do it better, but I have read so many good product reviews about Corsair power supplies that I wanted to try one just to see what reviewers are raving about.

Other Thoughts: No eggs to Newegg for placing the 600W unit on sale immediately (within 24 hours) after placing this one on sale. Buyer's remorse. How about a few more days or even a week so we can get over the "new toy joy" before seeing a more powerful product from the same vendor advertised on sale at the same price (before mail in rebate)????

2 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

This review is from: CORSAIR CXM series CX500M 500W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Pros: Great PSU, I would only recommend this if It's on sale or has a rebate.

Good price, good output, cool design, and modular.

Cons: I HATE how all the sata and MOLEX connectors are intertwined, and not on a single wire each. My SSD is on the bottom of the case and the wire that has 3 sata connectors cannot reach both, so I have a total of 5 sata connectors for 2 items, just horrible.

BEWARE: the 24pin connector does not lock onto the motherboard. I did a simple search "24pin not latching to motherboard" and all the results came up WITH THIS PSU as the culprit. I think I almost snapped my motherboard in half trying to plug it in, and it's still not latched on.

Other Thoughts: I don't blame them for the poor connectors though, that's what everyone does nowadays.
