Corsair 400W PSU

Unlike many other power supplies, this has a single 30 amp 12v Rail which eliminates any load balancing over different rails ...

5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly Surprised!!

Pros: Solid. Low noise fan with plenty of connectors. A bit pricey compared to other 400w makes and models but the mftr's rebate helps soften the blow. Should make for a good long relationship.

Cons: none.

Pros: Price. Corsair name, 80plus rating

5 out of 5 eggsI'm not a reviewer, but WoW

Pros: This thing is EXTREMELY quiet and has a lot of room for upgrades down the road. Perfect replacement for any low-mid size system. Shouldn't have a problem fitting in most cases. The price is unbelievable for the product.

Cons: Almost too many connectors - but is that bad thing? You could hook up any device made within the last 20 years to this thing and have a handful of cable left over.

Other Thoughts: I was hesitant to purchase since I was just upgrading an oldish HP Pavilion a6120n but for the price you cannot go wrong. This is my first Corsair PSU and as long as it holds up (3 year warranty) - then I'll be sold on their products indefinitely.

Newegg is amazing... as always!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: quality PSU and good price

Cons: when i got this the plug point part was damaged, even if i touch the wire a little bit or the computer shakes just a tad the computer shuts off because i have to get the area where the power cable is plugged into the power supply just right or it doesn't work....very inconvenient my computer has shut off many times....I'm 99% sure something is defective because usually i can plug the power cable into the PSU very easily but for this one it doesn't go all the way and I have to get it just right to work

Other Thoughts: I would rma this and get a replacement but I can't afford to wait a week and rma usually takes even more time since this is the only computer I have and I need to use it every day

1 out of 5 eggsjunk

Pros: price
120mm fan

Cons: out of the 10 or so psu i have bought this is definately the loudest. has a high pitched squeel coming from it. i usually bought seasonic or pc power and never have a problem (yes, i know who makes this).

Other Thoughts: bought this for a htpc for 20 bucks a/r. i know i could rma it but for the price to send it back prob. not worth it.
bottom line - you get what you pay for.

4 out of 5 eggsSlight Manufacturing Flaw, But Good Power Supply

Pros: Very quiet once I figured out what the horrible noise it was making was.
Looks nice.
Stable Power.

Powers this computer with no issues:
AMD 250 X2
ASROCK m3a770de
PNY 8800GT
RipJaw 4GB (2x2)Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
3 SAMSUNG EcoGreen F2 HD154UI 1.5TB Harddrives
1 Asus DVD burner
Silverstone PSO5-B Case
3x120MM fans

I was always looking at potential upgrade path, and I can put a gtx285 in it, or a ATI 58XX, and this power supply will do it.

Cons: This is why I gave it 4 eggs: Initially it was LOUD LOUD LOUD LOUD. It sounded a lot like bearing going bad, though the fan spun up fine. When I got it, the cable cover that makes the cables look nice had 1 lousy piece that was sticking under the cover of the fan blade on the power supply. I looked and looked. I actually RMAed it and then I was packing it up and I decided to look closer and I noticed how much it moved by the cable being tugged a little.

I saw the issue, then I pulled the cable and snipper it off using scissors. No noise anymore. I was surprised how quiet it was. I cant hear my computer at all now with 4x120mm fans and 2x80mm fans going.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking to get a power supply, and you aren't sure how many watts to use, find a power supply calculator. Newegg's calculator is overboard and doesnt give you an accurate number. For instance it says a 5400 harddrive takes about 35 watts a piece to run lol (its more like 5-10)

Keep in mind, 400 watts from this Corsair is likely to work better than say 600 watts from Rosewill or Joesmoes PSU company. Look at the rails and how many amps there is.

Most power supplies are split up by how many watts and amps a rail, or a voltage can carry. Your computer is mostly using 12V. This power supply carries 360w on the 12v rail. This is enough to power all but the higher end gaming platforms.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for general use

Pros: Got this about two months ago when my bundled case supply went up after about 8 months, running an Athlon x2 4200+ with a Radeon HD 4670 and two hard drives, and it's got more than enough power for what I'm doing. Very low noise, especially compared to my old one, all I can hear now is the stock AMD cooler and the video card.

The wrapped cables are also very nice, I'm not doing any airflow management but if I was I'm sure they'd be helpful with that as well.

Voltages are rock stable in Speedfan, the +12V not deviating more than +/- .05V and the other two it'll read not more than +/- .02V from average.

Basically if you need some power, go for it, I will probably buy another when it comes time to get a new system.

Cons: Doesn't come in gray. Not a big deal, it's on the back of the case anyway.

Other Thoughts: Too many cables? I don't know, I don't have very many devices in my computer so there's lots of extra connectors flopping around, but this would be a "Pro" if I needed to utilize them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU

Pros: - Silent.
- Lots of cables.
- Elegantly laid out cables make it easy to bundle and hide away unneeded connections.
- I think the big (relative to the other fans in my system) fan is increasing airflow throughout my case. I seem to have noticed a slight drop in CPU and GPU temperatures since installing this PSU.

Cons: None I can think of. I've had it running smoothly for a few weeks, but with products like these, I just hope I'm not one of the unlucky SOBs who has the thing prematurely die on them.

Other Thoughts: Q6600 @ 3GHz and 1333 FSB
4GB DDR2 667
Sapphire ATI 5770
1TB HDD
2x DVD drives

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet. So very, very quiet.

Pros: Is this thing on? I can't hear anything. Honey, can you please keep the kids quiet for a minute... Well, the lights are blinking. The computer is booting. I guess that means it's on.

Cons: I have had to find alternative methods to find out if my computer is on rather than listening to it.

Also, I wish there was a modular version available at this wattage. HTPC cases can get crowded.

Other Thoughts: More than enough power for my HTPC setup with plenty of room to grow:

Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H motherboard
Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz CPU
2x1GB A-DATA DDR2 800 RAM
1x1TB WD10EARS Caviar Green HDD
1x160GB Hitachi 7200 RPM HDD
