5 out of 5 eggsGreat PSU for Mid-Range PCs

Pros: Cheap, efficient, quiet, cool, and very dependable. Even though it is not SLi or Crossfire certified, I easily run two GTS250 video cards in SLi with it. It gets a little warm after a few hours of hardcore gaming with this setup, but in almost a year has not even hinted at failing. 12v lines never dip below 12.01v, so the power provided to the computer is rock stable, even under extreme load that it was never meant to handle!

Plus it has 4 SATA connectors, while most power supplies of 500w or lower only have 1 or maybe 2! I love this, as I have 2 SATA optical drives and a SATA hard drive! No more adaptors for me!

Cons: Only 400w, so it isn't going to power a top end gaming machine, but mid-range is perfect.

Other Thoughts: To the person complaining it doesn't have an 8-pin CPU power connector, do a little research. The 8-pin connector is specced out for 300w! Why would you think that a 400w power supply would have this connector? That is almost all the power from the power supply going to just that connector! Furthermore, 90% of motherboard with the 8-pin connector will work just fine with only a 4-pin, again if you did a little research you would have figured this out. The 8-pin is only required in rare cases, with Intel's extreme edition processors and AMD's 140w quad-cores. If you aren't using those, the motherboard will work fine with a 4-pin connector, even if it has an 8-pin slot. The 8-pin slot was designed to be backwards compatible with the 4-pin as long as the processor doesn't draw too much power. And if you are putting a processor in that is drawing that much power, why are you only powering it with a 400w power supply?

1 out of 5 eggsThis PSU Isn't Any Good!

Pros: Nice paint job, covered wires, and easy connectors.

Cons: This PSU is not compatiable with the newer motherboards with 8 pin power connectors for the processor. The max is 4 pin which is for older MOBOs. Why any company would build any PSU without an 8 pin connector option is beyond me.

Other Thoughts: I know I should have read the specifications before I made the purchase. However, I assumed the PSU would have the 8 pin connector. I know what assume stands for. Buyer beware! I will put this on the shelf for when a customer with an older motherboard needs a PSU.

3 out of 5 eggsAffordable efficient power

Pros: This power supply features sleeved cables of a appropriate length for my mid tower, which made for a nice neat case after the install. It has a thermal sensor increases the fan speed as temps goes up, even though these power supplies run very cool compared to non PFC units I've had in the past. Stable voltages on the 12 and 5 V rails. Overall a high quality product as you would expect from FSP.

Cons: From the moment I installed this PSU I noted low voltage on the 3.3 V rail. At idle it would be ~3.23 V at load ~3.15 V. I was playing GRAW2 with my Asus Probe running on my second monitor so I could observe while I played. When the Asus probe alarm went off due to the low 3.3 rail voltage I started getting some artifacts.

Other Thoughts: The PSU this replaced was an Ultra V series 350 W, a very inexpensive unit. Even so it had no problems maintaing stable 3.3 V rail at ~3.29 V under load. My system is pretty modest OC'ed Socket 478 P4 @3.0 Ghz 1.5GB RAM Radeon9600xt 256MB@567 core 330.75 x 2 Memory. I verified all voltages with my trusty multimeter, turns out I have a very accurate enviroment monitor chip on my Asus P4S-800D-X. Maybe I'll open it up and see if its got a pot for the 3.3 V rail, you know, void the warranty proper.
