Pros: Found an updated SATA driver on the SuperMicro FTP site and have my DVD-ROM drive back now.
So 4 drive RAID 10 with one hot spare and a DVD-ROM *IS* possible.
Cons: Shouldn't have been so hard to find the update. Support wanted me to make sure both LAN ports weren't connected...?

Rating: 2/5NOT a good cost-effective server
Pros: Good base for a higher-end server.
Cons: Spec'd with SATA RAID but you can't have RAID on the built-in SATA unless you give up your included SATA DVD-ROM because it's only one channel of SATA.
It's clearly intended to be used for SAS-RAID with an add-on controller card. It even comes with all the front hot-swap bays pre-wired for Supermicro's UIO SAS controller...so you have to re-run SATA cables if you want to use the on-board SATA-RAID. That's not mentioned in the description on Newegg or Supermicro's site.
Make sure you have a USB CD/DVD ROM drive for your installaion...

Rating: 5/5pretty sweet
Pros: No issues of any kind in physical installation. Installed two Xeon E5620 and 6 sticks of Kingston ValueRAM 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 ECC Unbuffered Server Memory (Model KVR1333D3E9SK3/6GI). Also installed a 3ware Internal 9750-8i for RAID 5. All worked like a charm. Redundant PSU is great.
Cons: None so far.

Rating: 5/5Great Package and Server!
Pros: Excelent server, great build. Rails included are very easy to install, and have many extras to fit in any scenario. Best part we like is it comes with 2 power supply units, sa this is a redundant unit. Great to get it all for the price. SuperMicro Tech support is first class; we called to clarify some issues, and they are there 24/7, withing minutes answering your call.
Cons: None that we are aware of.
Other Thoughts: We purchased 2 servers from NewEgg. The first one had an older board and bios. It was not accepting the new Six core, Intel Xeon 5600 CPU. We used a nehalem processor only to upgrade the Bios, then all worked perfect. The second server we got, works fine with the Xeon 5600 as it has newer board and Bios.
