5 out of 5 eggsExceeded expectations

Pros: I was concerned about signal strength and stuttering of picture over the network, but it has excellent signal strength and smooth playback. Very simple setup, and easily recognized by Windows Media Player and all the computers on the network!

Cons: The manual tells you what the 4 LEDs indicate, but it might be nice if it were marked on the case, too.

Other Thoughts: It's nice to have TV tuners available to all the computers in the house, without the cost of installing individual dual tuners in every computer, and without needing antenna hookups for each.

2 out of 5 eggsWish I had bought a PCI tuner card.

Pros: Picture and sound quality is good. Also, sound level is noticeably louder than I get from Hauppauge HVR-1600 but not as loud as my MIT MDP-130. One HDHomeRun unit works on every PC on the network.

Cons: There is always an annoying flickering white line/bar visible at the top of the window/monitor. Every little bit the picture noticeably pixelates and streaks. Really lousy software. So bad in fact that I wish I had bought another tuner card to replace the Hauppauge with a digital tuner that quit working. Because of the lousy software the 16:9 HD channels are shadow boxed inside a 4:3 picture which is shadow boxed inside my 16:9 monitors/windows. Really, really, really irritating and caused by the lousy software AND a local cable company stuck in the last century.

Other Thoughts: Bought refurbished unit at considerable savings--otherwise I would really be an unhappy camper!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me!!

Pros: I love the fact that I have one device with 2 tunes and can use it on any of my PC on the network, vs. one device in one PC. It integrates very easily with Windows 7 Media Center. I am using the ATSC tuners with very big antennas. I am in the Cambridge Vermont area so I am close the TV towers on MT Mansfield. But I am in the shadows of 2 other mountains, so I don't get the best signal quality. The software is a bit weird to being with. It feels very basic and old school, but does what it needs to. In the software there is a great signal meter. It shows the Signal Strength, Signal Quality, and Symbol Quality. With the help of the software’s signal meter and my laptop, I was able to point my antennas in a direction to get the best signal.

Cons: The tuners quality is good, but not as good as my TVs, there is one channel that i can't watch on the HDHomerun, but can on my TV.

Other Thoughts: Works great, would love another one or two!! Wish they had a satellite version.

5 out of 5 eggsthis latest revision of the tuner works great for OTA

Pros: Excellent digital over the air tuner sensitivity, I had the first revision that came out a few years back and it was not very good for over the air at locking the channel stream, this latest revision picksup every channel and the channels do not freeze or stutter, definitely big hardware improvement. I have two of these for a total of 4 tuners. A+

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: cant wait for the cablecard version I might think about paying for cable then.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple, Excellent

Pros: Works GREAT with MythTV! I love the fact that I can add more to increase the size of the channel bank! (more simultaneous channels). I'm using it with ATSC Over The Air TV and I killed my cable bill COMPLETELY! Comcast wasn't too happy with me, since I no longer have to pay for cable or for a DVR!

Cons: They could have offered a splitter to simplify hookup - had to buy a splitter and 2 cables.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this thing!

Pros: I have a modest network of two Macs and an iPhone all of which run Elagato's excellent EyeTV software.
I've had several devices over the years (none by Elgato BTW), a few Miglia (always had good luck with them), a couple Hauppauge Hybrids (Hybrids are JUST like the much pricier Elgato Hybrids with a different paint job).
I've wanted one of these for years but didn't take the plunge until recently, well it was a wonderful purchase! I plugged the SiliconDust device in and EyeTV did it's auto-recognize thing and it was setup in minutes.
It works flawlessly on my network and with my iPhone.

Very happy with this device!!!

Cons: One device in one place.
Less wires running around my house.

Other Thoughts: None

2 out of 5 eggsSadly not suitable.

Pros: It is a great device if you want to watch TV on your computer screen. Excellent PQ and easy to setup.

Cons: If, however, you wish to record TV with it it comes with no simple way to do that. You must use a third party app such as Windows Media Center (way overkill for mere recording, and the recordings are plagued by Windows proprietary container) or one of the sometimes buggy 'Freeware' PVR programs like GB-PVR. You can also shell out even more money and get BeyondTV or SageTV. I opted not to invest the time or cost of either of these programs, but reading the BeyondTV website I find it's not supported for 64 bit Operating Systems and SageTV doesn't specifically support Win7. SageTV's System Requirements also recommend a 3GHz or faster processor to watch HDTV.

Other Thoughts: Perhaps if SiliconDust included a basic capture application (or if a simple one were available) I would keep the HDHomerun. I like the dual tuners and easy setup. Sadly in the three weeks I've had it I've only hit dead ends, so I'm going to RMA it tomorrow.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Easily connects to network and discovered by MythTV setup promptly. Channel selection was new to me but got the unencrypted local HD channels recording from the cable line. The power transformer is small (guessing about 2x1x1inches) and fits nicely in the power strip with other plugs.

Cons: None, working as advertised.

Other Thoughts: This has been running for over 6 months as part of my MythTV setup flawlessly. I am extremely happy with this, partly surprised the network concept works so well. I've never experienced a need to restart the device. A friend has been using this for a few years with over-the-air signals. I delayed my purchase about a year thinking the HDPVR would fit my need better -- wish I hadn't waited.

5 out of 5 eggsJust buy it.

Pros: Unlike many other tuners, this one actually works. Like so many other people, I tried to save money by buying a cheaper solution -- in my case a Hauppage 1600 that I fought with for a year, and ended up not really using in the end. The HDHomeRun flat out works. I'm using it with Windows 7 Media Center and a cheap antenna, and it records 2 HD channels simultaneously without any problems. Set up in Media Center was very simple, just follow the directions on the Silicone Dust website. Being able to attach it straight to my router is a big plus, as it can be more easily hidden than it would if it had to fit behind the HTPC. I think that some day I'll probably buy a second to permit the recording of 4 channels at once.

Cons: I suppose it costs more than other tuners. But it's worth it. If you're thinking to yourself, "I kinda want the HomeRun, but it's so expesnive, I bet the XXXXXXX will work just as well." Stop, just pay the extra money.

Other Thoughts: They include 2 decent quality coax cables in the box, which I appreciated.
