5 out of 5 eggsMaxes out my games

Pros: I don't have a huge monitor (1280x1024) and this card maxes out every game I've played on it so far. Alice Madness Returns runs beautifully on it with max settings. The card follows the reference GTS 450 design, but I did a small OC to 800 MHz using Afterburner. The number just feels better although it probably doesn't do much in reality. The GTS 450 is a great card to have if you're playing at my resolution or up to 1680x1050.

The fan noise other reviews talked about, I don't really hear it when I'm gaming. I mean yes you hear for 1 second when your computer boots because the fan spins up then down, but the volume of my games easily drowns out any noise coming from the card.

Cons: It's kind of an ugly card. Reminds me of a baguette. Maybe you don't want your acrylic case window showing the card to the entire world.

Not much room to OC, but at stock frequencies it works fine on the resolutions the GTS 450 is meant to play at.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: smallest video card (low profile ready)

Cons: I bought Palit GeForce GTS 450 6months ago. DVI didn't work and requested RMA and replaced other new one few months ago. Again, Fan doesn't work and RMA doesn't answer. I suggest doesn't buy this video card because 2 times damaged and RMA is poor service :(

2 out of 5 eggsDont trust Palit rebates

Pros: Overclocks pretty well. Performance is as expected. Has not failed yet.

Cons: Kind of loud when idle. Also mine gets hotter than I would expect under load.

Other Thoughts: You must do everything perfectly if you expect to get a rebate from this company. One mistake and you will never hear from them again. Poor rebate support.

4 out of 5 eggsamazing low profile card

Pros: fits into a low profile computer case.
one of, if not the, fastest low profile cards you can buy.

Cons: gets hot, up to 80 degrees in certain games.
fan gets very loud.

Other Thoughts: If your a gamer and stuck with a low profile case like i was, this is an amazing card. Just make sure you have enough power to run it. However if you don't need a low profile card, i would avoid this one and opt for one with better cooling.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great card. Looks nice.

Cons: Overheats and is very loud.

Other Thoughts: The problem is not the heat sink it is the #$%& fan that comes with it. I took the cover off and put a different fan next to it and it now runs at room temp.

2 out of 5 eggsToo hot. Too Loud.

Pros: Video output is gorgeous. Fits in low profile case.

Cons: Runs way too hot in a crammed htpc case... even with extra case fans installed. Either way, the video card should be able to stay reasonably cool on its own. Due to poor heatsink design this is simply not the case. It runs too hot which causes (a)fan to spin too fast (b)unbearable noise from fan (c)games to crash due to hardware overheating.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could have kept this card since it seems to be the only powerful low-profile GPU. Instead I RMA'd it and went with a taller htpc case so I can throw my spare R5770 Hawk in it.

5 out of 5 eggsEO

Pros: Great Card, I have used these for over 40 builds, and have only had 2 go bad.

Cons: It get's hot fairly fast in a Low profile case, but we added extra fans to compensate and they work perfectly

Other Thoughts: Recently Newegg started selling these cards only with a combo, the only problem is that none of the combos Newegg has contain a Power Supply that is powerful enough for the Card. Palit specs a 400W PSU. Please offer it for sale out of a combo. I don't want to have to buy them from other companies twice a week

3 out of 5 eggsWorks Great Runs too hot

Pros: -The fastest low profile card at the moment.

Cons: -I don't know if is the choice of aluminum for heatsink, or just unlucky draw. It died in about 2 weeks.
-Gets so loud I can hear it over my headphones when the fan spins up.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud and hot just like others say!

Pros: HD audio works well, fairly powerful, but matched to the 512MB GTS 250. Honestly I have this, the Sparkle GTS 250, and the Powercolor HD 5750 (looks like newegg pulled it because it hasn't been restocked in a couple of months) and they all score about the same with furmark running at 1920x1080 so pick your poison out of three. Of course the GTS 250 lacks audio unless you connect it to an oboard spdif header and then you're only limmited to 5.1 DTS audio.

Cons: This thing is hot, I mean themo nuclear hot! I can't help but think that there must be other aplications for this gpu chip such as de-icing the wings of a plane or something. The cooler isn't designed too well, but the heat sink is the biggest problem. You'll cool the card best by lapping the rough heatsink and applying some arctic silver 5. You don't need much at all and it NEEDS to be spread around to a translucent coat on the chip (it's only there to fill in microsopic imperfections). You can't just put a blob onto to center of the chip and expect it to spread around evenly like on a CPU (the same kind of pressure isn't there with graphics cards to do same thing as motherboard CPUs). One issue that I have with this card is that it creates a HDCP problem with my Sony TV where I wont get any audio if HDMI control is turned on. I'm fairly certain that it's a problem with the TV since the problem happens as soon as I plug in the card (without even turning it the PC on).

Other Thoughts: I noticed that some of you mentioned pulling the heatsink off & slapping thermal paste onto it. That's not going to do much to a chunk of aluminum which is as smooth as a piece of lumber. It needs to be sanded down to a smooth finish. Look up lapping if you don't know how and what to get, but one thing I do which works well is use each grade of sandpaper in alternate directions until the scratches from the last one are gone instead of going back and forth & then right to left. Another issue is with the fan shroud. If you want to vent the heat outside of the case you need to wrap the rear of the card (you need to get the bottom of that duct too which is where you loose the most air) and get a little tape on the sides too. I use HVAC foil tape which is ultra sticky & has a high temp rating. Just be careful since you can cut yourself with it & it's also conductive (please don't create any electrical shorts). These tips should lower the temps 10-20* C & help reduce the whine of death.
