5 out of 5 eggsContinuing Strong

Pros: -Quiet
-Well Priced

Cons: I have none

Other Thoughts: Got this thing almost a year ago and it's been running strong since. It's played everything I have maxed settings and doesn't go over 50 degrees C. Most of the games I play also seem to be hitting ~50 FPS.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job well

Pros: Price

Cons: Noticeable fan noise above 60% speed

Other Thoughts: I got this video card for a new computer build as a step up from my old HD4850 512MB video card. That card rarely had any difficulties with any games I threw at it on max settings (TF2, HL2, gmod, etc.) so I wanted to get a new card that was a slight step up in case I decided to get any newer games. So far I have not been disappointed with its performance and I have not noticed it having to reach into the >60% fan speed range, which is good as it gets a little noisy past that.

I just built a new computer from the ground up. Primary use is going to be photo editing, with the occasional video editing, gaming, Office work, and modeling/number crunching. I have the Samsung SSD set up as a scratch disk for Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Premiere and the location where I edit my pictures before they get stored on my HDD.

Build specs:
Asus P8Z77-V Pro motherboard
Intel i7-3770K processor at stock speeds for now
Hyper 212+ CPU cooler
16GB (4x4GB) G.skill Ares DDR3 1600 RAM
HIS IceQ X AMD HD 6870 1GB DDR5 video card
Intel 520 Series 180GB SATA III SSD (for the OS and programs)
Samsung 830 Series 128GB SATA III SSD (scratch disk and temporary photo storage)
Western Digital 2TB 7200rpm HDD (media storage)
Asus DVD/CD-RW drive
Rosewill Challenger U3 case
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

5 out of 5 eggsSuper good

Pros: It's a very solid and very cool running card. When I had it at my older place where the ambient temps in the summer got over 80, it still stayed nice and cool. Now at my new apartment where it's much cooler, I've OCed it a few hundred Mhz on memory and CPU and it's still doing great. Haven't had a single problem with drivers or hardware and I love that.

Cons: I would say "It doesn't make me a sandwich" like so many others, but there isn't a single con I've encountered yet. I would say I would like it to be a little cheaper, but it feels pretty well in line with other card prices.

5 out of 5 eggsCOOL running card

Pros: I purchased this thing a few months ago and man does this thing run cool, and it can run games like BF3 and Dayz with no problem. probably one of the best sub $200 cards on the market if not the best!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: update your drivers when you install this card

2 out of 5 eggsDissapointing

Pros: This card is very quiet as long as the fan is below approximately 50%.

Cons: This card has been somewhat disappointing to me, I previously had an Nvidia GTS-450 and expected somewhat more of a performance gain from switching but noticed a difference of approximately 5 FPS on most games and in some cases actually lower FPS. This card although is quiet while the fan is under 50% it runs warmer than I would have expected ~65 degrees C under load at stock speeds. I have also tried overclocking and found that the card becomes too unstable to be used if over clocked beyond 950Mhz on the core clock and 1075 on the memory clock.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a quiet card and don't plan on overclocking then this is the right card for you. Otherwise I would consider looking at something else.

5 out of 5 eggsWas a great first card

Pros: My first computer build I got this card, was very well and ran flawless for the games I was playing. I upgraded from a 2003 Toshiba laptop which lagged on EVERYTHING so it was a HUGE difference for me. That was a year ago now and it died yesterday. I will probably bury it in my backyard for being a great card for what I needed.

Now, I am ordering a new GTX 670, but my 6870 will be forever remembered. RIP.

If you are a new PC builder like I was, I recommend this card!

Cons: You don't really get anything out of overclocking it.

5 out of 5 eggsNice card

Pros: This fit my budget and offered the performance boost I needed due to my aging HIS Radeon 4870 not quite cutting it any more. The fan is super quiet and keeps the card cool, even with the eye candy turned up and playing for an hour or two. Nice to have DX11 hardware support. Had a few titles that supported DX11 but couldn't utilize it with the HD4870. I can actually see a difference now with it enabled which I didn't see between DX9 to DX10 previously.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Went with HIS because I had been running their IceQ HD4870 for a few years without a hitch.
Not sure why some complain about the size. It's no bigger than my HD4870. This has been about the norm for video cards for quite some time.
