5 out of 5 eggsAfter some time...

Pros: This card still performs well, running as a single in my setup for about 1.5 years now, capable of playing most modern era games at top notch settings on a 1080 display. Of course significant gains can be made in a Crossfire setup.

Cons: FACTORY DEPLOYED COOLING SOLUTION IS PRETTIER THAN IT IS EFFECTIVE. Most people didn't like my initial review that this card requires an aftermarket cooling solution, at risk of warranty, and I'm sure it's still an unwelcome sentiment now... NOT MADE FOR AMATEURS!!! A large-area all-copper heatsink, or liquid cooling solution is necessary for this card, period. The factory furnished heatsink does not possess the thermal conductivity, nor the correct type of surface coverage of the GPU, it will not cool the GPU sufficiently when needed, no matter how many fancy, ghostly fans it comes with.

Other Thoughts: The fan control scheme works well when everything else is done right, I have a big copper Zalman something on it, and of course modded the XFX fans to it, so the auto fan control can be used, and they will crank when needed (up to 4K RPM). Again, NOT FOR AMATEURS!!! Or those who do not wish to compromise their warranty. WHY DO YOU THINK YOU SEE SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF POST PURCHASE FAILURE??? THIS THING IS COOKING ITSELF WITH THAT AWFUL FACTORY HEATSINK!!!!
Now that this has come down in price since I bought it, it may be a worthy risk, for those who like to risk their warranties for longer-life/better performance. BUT SHAME ON XFX for leaving us no choice but to risk our warranties!!!

3 out of 5 eggsBelly Up!

Pros: Great video card when it worked. Most games would max out settings with no problems. Great cooling.

Cons: 23 months later boom! Video card failed. I know for a fact that I registered these cards but when going to get an RMA they only list a card from 2008! How much you want to bet they will not honor their warranty because they do not show the card registered to me. Will update.

Other Thoughts: I would be curious how many other cards are failing when close to 2 years old.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ouch,

We are willing to match anything you are willing to wager against us! If you have any questions about your RMA/ticket, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com

4 out of 5 eggsSo Far So Good

Pros: -When this is on sale you can get it for 130$ after MIR, GREAT DEAL!
-This older Ghost Cooler looks much better than the new designed XFX coolers(personal opinion :D)
-Has run every game I've thrown at it so far at max settings(Metro last light was a bit rough at spots)

Cons: -AMD drivers seem to be slightly unstable at this current time, spent 3 hours getting everything to work somewhat properly. Due to the driver state right now I can't get BF3 or BF4 to run(not sure whats happening, will hopefully sort all the issues out super soon). My brand new ASUS monitor will occasionally flash a black screen(Guessing its relating to the drivers again, monitor was fine before I installed the drivers).
-Runs a bit toasty highest I've seen the temp was 78 celsius
-Last gripe which I can't control nor can newegg or XFX was I got the 6+6 pin pitcairn core edition, was hoping to get a Tahiti LE 6+8pin edition wasn't expecting it too much as the 7870 is getting older.
-Sadly no case badge with this product and I didn't get the door hanger which was supposed to be there :(

Other Thoughts: Overall everything is great! Only reason I docked an egg is because I seem to be encountering quite a lot of trouble with the AMD drivers. I might try the drivers off of the disc soon and see how that goes.

Overall this is my first XFX card and I think I will have a foreseeable future with buying GPUS from XFX, they look great compared to the competition and the lifetime warranty is something I think is unmatched by any other oem. Good job XFX

2 out of 5 eggsDo Not BUY!

Pros: Not done building p/c. I am sure cards will work as other have suggested. *UPDATE* 2 eggs for cards doing what they're supposed to.

Cons: CUSTOMER SERVICE! If you are looking to buy a gfx card from a reputable company that will stand behind thier products, do NOT use XFX! Thier customer service is subpar, where I live we have comcast as a cable provider, and if you have ever dealt with comcast you know what I mean. I was on the phone for over an hour about a declined rebate because I "didn't send in the correct documentation". They scanned and sent back the forms I sent to them, including the required document they said they were missing! When I called they gave me excuse after excuse that I did not send them it, even though it's on their website and in my documentation sent... Anyways, I got hung up on, and then I was lied to. One guy said they never received anything, even though they sent me a denial letter for not having correct documentation!

Terrible terrible company, have never gone XFX before and never will again. If this is how they treat their customers who make their business, then there are much better places to spend your money, even if you have to spend a bit more money.

P.S. After talking to some friends about my experience, One of them mentioned he had similar issues with a warranty on his xfx card, ultimatley he has a big paperweight, lost money to ship it back for an RMA and lots of headache!

DO NOT BUY!!!!

Other Thoughts: LIke I said, if cust service wasn't such, errrm, bogus the cards work just as advertised. But when you need them, they won't be there, so don't expect it.

I know I'm ranting, but just google "XFX REBATE DECLINE" or "XFX WARRANTY DECLINE" and you can find thousands of others with the same issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, B,

We are not the rebate company. 4myrebate.com is the rebate company used here at Newegg. We're sorry you had issues getting it passed.

Please contact Us, XFX, at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com for help with getting your claim approved.

4 out of 5 eggsXFX R7870

Pros: Quit, quit looks like a bamf card! And with the right setup will run most games on high/ very high settings!

Cons: Now dont get me wrong this is a good gpu, but it does run a little hotter! I have bought 4 of these cards to crossfire on different computers! And on my old one that is 2 + years old there is two metal heat tubes to each fan that go to the gpu the past three cards that I have got only have one! so I think they might have changed the design or something I do not know! I know my old one runs cooler than the new ones! Old= maxes 65+_- like 5 degrees! And the new ones are 70+ most of the time:? Also on 2 of the new ones I had to adjust the front cover because they were touching the fan, just barely!!

Other Thoughts: I am very pleased with these cards to crossifre them is cheap and good:D I just would like to know more about the cards warrentys before one goes bad! Thanks XFX and new egg:D

Manufacturer Response:

Excellent. We are happy everything is working as expected. The warranty is rather simple. If you register at xfxsupport.com within 30 days of purchase and keep a copy of your invoice, you have a non-transferrable lifetime warranty. Without the registration and just the receipt, 2 years.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: -Runs Battlefield 4 on ultra without breaking a sweat
-Price (if you catch it on sale)
-Size -> not particularly obese for having 2 fans

Cons: Literally the only con i have about the card is that XFX denied my rebate, even though i met every requirement and sent all the appropriate documentation. Kind of kills the point when you find an item on sale that also has a rebate...

Other Thoughts: Requires 2, 6 pin power connectors. Just make sure you have those available (thank you to the other reviewers that posted that)

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thank you for the great review.

The rebate company is a seperate entity. Please contact us so we can help investigate this for you.

5 out of 5 eggsI expected more from a $200 card.

Pros: Runs everything at mostly highest settings.

Cons: Some games even on medium settings won't reach a good fps.
Stock fan control is a little weak.

Other Thoughts: This card is really good and I won't take off an egg because I feel I paid too much for it. It does play every game I throw at it. Just not always able to reach 60fps.

The stock controller for the fan speed is pretty horrid. I run Precision X in the background just to have the fan speed rev up a little sooner. I don't like it taking 80C to have 100% fan speed. That's a personal preference though.

This also did not like OC'ing very much. Was only able to bump the GPU clock to about 1250 before it started artifacting. Memory clock OC'd like a beast though going up to 1475 before seeing any issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the positive feedback. Unfortunately overclocking is Hit or miss, never a guarantee.

5 out of 5 eggs2 years old and still strong

Pros: Currently the highest bench marked card under $200. Just over $200 at $220 is another ATI, the 7950 (as ranked by passmark and G3D mark). I've had zero issues with my card which is now going on two years old. I've had no need to overclock it yet either. I've noticed a few small hiccups but it's been with games released this year, 2014 as expect from a card that came out in 2012.

Cons: Not a single con I can think of other than it's not the newest technology but it is 2 years old.

Other Thoughts: Thinking of buying a second one, maybe used if I can trust the seller. 2 of these will out benchmark nearly all the single cards out there for under $500 today.
