5 out of 5 eggsI expected more from a $200 card.

Pros: Runs everything at mostly highest settings.

Cons: Some games even on medium settings won't reach a good fps.
Stock fan control is a little weak.

Other Thoughts: This card is really good and I won't take off an egg because I feel I paid too much for it. It does play every game I throw at it. Just not always able to reach 60fps.

The stock controller for the fan speed is pretty horrid. I run Precision X in the background just to have the fan speed rev up a little sooner. I don't like it taking 80C to have 100% fan speed. That's a personal preference though.

This also did not like OC'ing very much. Was only able to bump the GPU clock to about 1250 before it started artifacting. Memory clock OC'd like a beast though going up to 1475 before seeing any issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the positive feedback. Unfortunately overclocking is Hit or miss, never a guarantee.

5 out of 5 eggs2 years old and still strong

Pros: Currently the highest bench marked card under $200. Just over $200 at $220 is another ATI, the 7950 (as ranked by passmark and G3D mark). I've had zero issues with my card which is now going on two years old. I've had no need to overclock it yet either. I've noticed a few small hiccups but it's been with games released this year, 2014 as expect from a card that came out in 2012.

Cons: Not a single con I can think of other than it's not the newest technology but it is 2 years old.

Other Thoughts: Thinking of buying a second one, maybe used if I can trust the seller. 2 of these will out benchmark nearly all the single cards out there for under $500 today.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance for Price

Pros: This card surpassed my expectations. Everything looks amazing with it, and it runs every game I've tried on the highest settings just fine.

Cons: The only problem I had with this was the drivers for it. I installed the standard drivers twice and each time it would randomly BSOD my computer at least twice a day. I went back to the their website and installed the new beta drivers and everything has been working fine. Runs a bit loud, but I was used to that already with my Xbox 360.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns Great

Pros: Still running great and I haven't felt the need to replace it after a year of use.

Runs all my games at max settings at 1080p except for Crysis 3. Most games run at 60 fps.

Runs AutoCAD Civil 3D without a problem, which surprised me. I was worried that it would be incompatible.

Cons: honestly can't think of any real cons.

Maybe it would be nice if it ran PhysX. I found that Borderlands 2 struggles if PhysX is turned up, but I blame that on the game designers and nVidia.

Other Thoughts: Very large compared to my old 9800 GT. I wish I bought a bigger computer case.

I'm thinking about buying another of these for Crossfire along with a 144 hz monitor.

2 out of 5 eggsToo many artifacts.

Pros: Great value and an even greater picture. Games and video look amazing.

Cons: Too many issues.
When it's working, it's great. When it's not...
The "Main" monitor gets a lot of artifacts all over the screen, they go away after a while, or if I wave a window across the area, but they'll appear maybe once every week or so.
The "Secondary" monitor has an issue where the mouse image will distort and i have to wave the mouse back and forth between the monitors to get this corrected.
I've used each patch and update that Radeon put out, and none of them have corrected this issue.

Other Thoughts: Though it's a nice Video Card, and I really truly want to Love this item. But the Cons are just too strong for me. Once the budget allows it, I will be replacing this.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Unfortunately artifacting is a sign that the VRAM has been corrupted. This can be repaired or replaced under warranty.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent card for the price, especially if you're on a budget.

Pros: Runs cool
Performs flawlessly in most situations
Runs almost all games at 1920x1080 well above 60fps

Cons: Uses two PCI-E slots
Large card, can take up a lot of space in a smaller case

Other Thoughts: I've been using this card since 2012 and I've had ZERO issues. It's well made and a great workhorse for the price. I paid $249 back then and it's only dropped slightly in price which should be a testament to this card's performance.

Thank you for great review and feedback.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Last A Year

Pros: Got the card reasonable on sale with an one year warranty. Worked great for the first 6 months...

Cons: It only lasted 6 months. It started to go black screen and the fans went on high. I tried to play Lego Marvel and barely got to the start screen. Only last 2 minutes with any game I try to play through Steam Also, the customer service from XFX was horrible. I created a ticket and told them what was going on and it almost took them a week to get back to me. I had to find a phone number on Google just to talk to them and get a RMA for the card. I did send the card to them, but had to pay shipping costs. Then they would not contact me for over week until I responded to them. Sounds like great customer service. The card is on warranty so I get a refurbished one.

The best part of my interaction with XFX was with one of their employees stating the following

"so if you receive the replacement unit and the same issues persist you will want to troubleshoot other parts of your system as well. "

Sounds like someone is pointing fingers at other companies. Side note: I haven't any problems with any other part I bought here on NewEgg.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Saint Jimmy,

We're sorry you had issues with your 7870. I want to clear the air on a few things. These cards come with a Lifetime warranty if registerred at xfxsupport.com within 30 days (keep your receipt) or 2 years without registration.

Yes, we point blame at other hardware components all the time, when blame is do, of course. Graphics related failures can be caused by PSU's, MoBo's, RAM, software, etc... Your issue sounds like the card came in and the issue you were having wasn't able to be replicated. This likely yielded a test result of NO FAULT FOUND, so we replaced it anyway as a courtesy.

The best part of your conversation with you was despite your graphics card not being faulty, we still paid to service it, replace it, ship it back to you, and maintain the commitment to fix your issue despite it not being graphics card related. Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsBeast card

Pros: I have had this card a year now and can't complain, out performs my gtx 660 in my other build. This card can run any game at throw at it at max settings. Others complaining about performance problems might need to check over their install.

Cons: The metal casing can cause a little noise when the fans speed up.

Other Thoughts: While I am fond of nvidia, this has been one of the best cards I have ever owned.

4 out of 5 eggsamazing performance

Pros: works great and runs relatively quiet. it got delivered insainley fast and it looks awesome. fps for the most part run higher then my monitors refresh rate

Cons: i had to re-install windows to get direct x to work

Other Thoughts: way better than a gt 630

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thank you for the positive review. I'm not sure why you had to reinstall windows, but i'd guess you had an antivirus installed/active when trying to update the new drivers.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I've had this card since 2012. I've been using it everyday at stock speeds. Have had zero issues with performance or cooling. Stays cool under full load.

Cons: Not sure if this an issue with the video card drivers or something specific with my machine....but this when I have the video card hooked up to my monitor via DVI and my HDTV via HDMI, the drivers will crash sometimes if I turn the TV on while the PC is already running.

Other Thoughts: I know it's been a while since my initial purchase and most people won't be in the market for this GPU at this point but I figured what the heck.

I am building a new PC in the near future. I will be passing this down to my younger cousin, I have no doubts this card will continue to perform over the next couple of years.
