2 out of 5 eggsxfx 7870 total hardware crash after 3 weeks

Pros: The card handles like a pro but that goes without saying.

Cons: After 3 weeks the card during idle begins artifacting hard, to the point where I could not even shutdown from home screen. Ran some troubleshooting and seen that it was the card since I had it crossfiring with an older model of the series.
Also when I received the card new. The box had a huge gash in it from manufacturers poor handling.

Other Thoughts: Spoke with the xfx customer support and with their warranty I still have to pay out of pocket for both way deliveries. If I wanted to pay 350$ for a 250$ GPU I would have bought better. It would be nice to receive a refund for my trouble.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jonahtan, We're sorry you are having issues with your RMA replacement.

We dont ship damaged boxes back for RMA returns, if you feel the card may be comprimised, please contact us and we will file a complaint with the shipping company.

Also, You dont have to pay shipping both ways, all we ask is that you ship it to us safely. Then we take care of the rest.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsYES! and then no...

Pros: Just a great piece of technology. You get what you pay for basically..

Cons: Began to fail me about 7 months in. Blue screened who knows how many times. While playing video games, screen would begin to have an exorcism. Stopped playing video games, but then it began to do the same with videos, then by just having it on. I'm still currently waiting for them to respond to me, and I'm hoping they reply before the warranty is up...which is a few months now.

Other Thoughts: Its a gamble with xfx. this isnt the first ive heard of the same happening with their gpu's.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, We're sorry you are having issues with your 7870. If you already created a ticket at xfxsupport.com, then you should be receiving your RMA soon.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I've had this graphics card for 2 years already and it's still playing every games I'm throwing at it! Also never had any problems with this card.

Cons: The card can get noisy at times, but it's nothing annoying and it's also to be expected.

2 out of 5 eggsSemi-Damaged on Arrival

Pros: None currently, haven't really tried playing games out of concern.

Cons: One fan is somewhat broken, was like this when I received it.

Other Thoughts: The graphics card seems like it's powerful, but I haven't tested it out of concern.

When I booted up my computer for the first time, I noticed one of the fans wasn't spinning. It was stuck, so I gave it a bit of a push and it started making a grinding noise.

I immediately shut it off, and tried pushing the metal exterior down a small amount. It seems to have worked, as the fan stops grinding down and spins normally.

Should I be concerned?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry you had troubles with your card. It sounds like a fan might be going bad. If you notice the behaviour to continue, we can replace the fan for you.

If you have any questions, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Compatible

Pros: Purchased this with high hopes of playing new games but I never got installed because of its size. I imagine it would be an excellent card since I have an XFX card that I am replacing.

Cons: Size - Make sure motherboard can really handled a card of this size. The the double size card slot was too tong and jumper switches were in the way so I it was incompatible with my motherboard.

Other Thoughts: Going to try to see if my I register my XFX card under the warranty because they have the best warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry you had troubles with your card.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good solid performer while it worked, quiet.

Cons: Black screen of death after a year and a half, with ineffective response from XFX to date- Ticket is open, they requested the invoice, and have now been sitting on it for a week.

Not at all happy with XFX customer support.

Other Thoughts: Cards fail. It happens. I'm o.k. with that to a point, although in rebuilding the system from scratch to nail down the problem I wasted time and money on a new SSD

But in my book where a company fails hard is when they get the opportunity to stand behind their product and warrantee, and they drop the ball.

At this point, after providing the info they asked me for, I have heard nothing back for a week. XFX fail. Never again, unless they make this right in a hurry.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Perhaps the email didnt arrive?

Please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com so i can review your ticket.

Thanks

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Video Card

Pros: This thing runs like as advertised. It gave me the highest windows score and I was happy with that. I use a good video card because I do remote connections with people through my business. It serves its purpose well. I also played World of Warcraft with it and it ran like I thought it would.

Cons: Some of the previous reviews were pretty brash about this thing over heating. Yes it does get hot, naturally because the processor is making millions upon millions of calculations every second. I mean really its quite simple. The more stuff that happens in a shorter amount of time things tend to get HOT. Duh. Simple mechanics really.

For what I do with this card, it runs very well and I have a hard time believing that this thing is junk because it just runs well.

Other Thoughts: This is a good price and a good card. For someone who likes to game it might be sort of mediocre for lack of a better word but for me, it gets the job done.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review, we appreciate the positive feedback.

4 out of 5 eggsI like it but....

Pros: Runs well.
Quiet.
Overall, Im really happy with this card.

Cons: However... I have experience some problems that im guessing come from issues with the drivers. On occasion, the screen will go black and moments later it will function again. Ive updated the drivers and have no idea how to resolve this issue. SO far it hasnt really happened during games or anything... usually happens when playing videos :/

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thank you for the great review.

It could be a flash issue. Have you disabled the "enable hardware acceleration" feature in flash player?

Please contact us for more details.

3 out of 5 eggsProblems driving 4K

Pros: Quiet, has DP & HDMI outputs

Cons: Connected to a Lenovo 2840m 4K display. Using a Lenovo 21Gbps certified DP cable. Image jitters/tears at 60 FPS.
30 FPS works. Hart to know if the problem is the card or the display.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Rubear, This isn't the first reported case of the 2840M 4k jitter at 60HZ. Have you contacted Lenovo yet? There is a long forum on Lenovo talking about this. If you have any questions, please let us know.
