5 out of 5 eggs5970 Crossfire X

Pros: Running dual XFX HD5970 BE on my EVGA Classified E760 with I7 980x. They are capable of running cool even overclocked with proper case cooling. Depending on the game usually no more than 65c and with BFBC2 quadfire works so well the GPUs never exceed 45c with max settings at stock clocks. I however, run my fans on manual speed at 80% when gaming. It would seem you no longer would be required to flash the BIOS on these anymore since my fan control was unlocked out of the box. Got 48,000 3dMark Vantage GPU score with 2 of these badboys. Overclocked to 925 core and 5ghz RAM. You'll need the XFX overvolt tool to hit those speeds and you can download it once you register your card. Which you should do immediately if you want access to the lifetime warranty. Which XFX will honor. They have top of the line support. All games maxed, period. At like 200 FPS. Will max Crysis, Metro 2033 with 4xAA enabled, Stalker CoP, AvP and anything else that supports Crossfire.

Cons: Of course, not all games support Quadfire. MW2 doesn't. The 3rd and 4th GPU will go to sleep while you play that game and others, such as Blur. Pretty much any DX11 game will work though. They don't come with a long 10cm Crossfire bridge, neither do the X58 boards in most cases to run in slots 1 and 2. Which are the x16 slots on most boards. So order one ahead of time or with it. Newegg doesn't seem to carry them. You can run it on an X58 board in slot 1 and 3 but they just cook too badly. Mine shut off from heat in less than an hour like that with no overclocks and manual fan speed at 100%. So space them properly. I am running an Intel I7 980x at 4.3 ghz and I'm still bottlenecking these 2 cards. Also running 2ghz RAM. I must definitley suggest that you run more than 6gb of RAM if you want quadfire because I had to set my memory low gap to 3GB to run games which doesn't leave you enough RAM in most cases to run games like Stalker CoP, AvP or any other high RAM consumer.

Other Thoughts: These things do suck up the juice. I have a Cooler Master 1250 watt 80+, sweet PSU, supplies plenty of juice but wouldn't try to run 2 without at least 1000 watts. These 2 in quadfire really bring out the quality in any game that supports it. It was truly breathtaking in DX11 games. Didn't think it would be a huge difference but it was. I recommend uninstalling all ATI software before you install the 2nd card and then reinstall it once you've got it in. I couldn't adjust clock speeds until I did that. A Crossfire X 5970 setup is only for the hardcore. You really only need 1. But, it will give you obscene amounts of power if you ever need it, and I wanted to get another one before they stopped selling them. Which in my experience, always happens. It's their way of forcing you to get the next generations card if you want more performance.

5 out of 5 eggsPurchased back in Nov 2009

Pros: Renders all games @1920x1200 at enthusiast levels w/AA at high playable fps. Cooler than 4870x2 or 4870. Great warrentee. Will run at 5870+ speeds in right case w/ propper cooling (with the stock cooler). Increasing voltage to the card produces heat proportionally, but a minor tweak yielded minor increase of heat. The packaging was far better than the other 5970s featured on unboxing vids. Nice BE case badge. Could be heavier or longer or more expensive(but it is not, quit crying). It's a great card. Other Eggers say you need only one and it is true. I picked up 2 because this is my last build, for a few years. ^_^

Cons: I was one of the campers that snagged it in November and January. The one I picked up in Nov was a brick. Because of a shortage of parts in Taiwan, these card were scarce.

Other Thoughts: I'm giving 5 eggs alone for XFX costumer Support/ warrentee, I guess the first batch of cards were goofy. around Jan I placed an order which seems fine.
I own :
-gtx295 /9600 gt rig 4g DDR2 AM2 6400+ BE (son's water cooled PC )
-2x 250 gts rig 4g DDR3 phenom 720 (HomeTheater PC)
-2x 8800gts rig 4g DDR2 phenom 250 (daughters PC)
-2x 5970 cf 8g DDR3 phenom 965 (my PC)

I have been with newegg from 2005 and I looked at what i paid for two 7800 gts 256mb in 2006 and the cost was $700 for a pair. Ran FEAR in SLI at 40-50fps. 2 8800 gts $800 for pair. Ran FEAR in SLI at 60-70fps. GTX 295 still runs about $500. My point is in 2006 when the 7800 came out, SLI is in it's infancy, you'd have paid the same for a 5970.

The 5970 is running Fear maxed at 59 fps, just tested it for sits and giggles(IMO the software is not optimized for DX 9 this is also without vsync.) I get aound 40-65 in crysis maxed without CF

finally XFX warrentee is phenominal

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card and graphics!

Pros: The firmware no longer needs to be updated to manually set the fan. My card already came with the necessary updated firmware. Overall it is a great card and can easily push max settings on every game I have touched.

Cons: Wish it came with a MiniDisplayPort to DVI adapter.

Other Thoughts: Recommend to anyone!

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely insane

Pros: Wow. Just wow. The XFX 5970 BE is an utter BEAST. This thing can smoothly run anything I throw at it at 1920x1080 with everything cranked all the way up. I mainly play BFBC2, MoH:Beta, TF2, and other games. Before I got this card, I would lag so badly with my 8600GT on my old computer, but now I feel like I will be able to play most games for years to come. What an insane graphics card! I love it! I'm going Eyefinity in about a month and a half and I am confident that this beast will be able to power three 24 inch widescreen LCDs.

Cons: It's no surprise that ATI's driver support has always been kinda shoddy. However, I don't really have any problems with this card while running 10.6 Catalyst. The only problem I had involved a browser-based game, QuakeLive, but it was quickly resolved by putting one of the opengl .dll files from the 10.4 catalysts in the game directory. Hopefully ATI can improve support for older games.

Other Thoughts: I just threw this 5970 into my new build:

4 out of 5 eggsNot fully tested on all computer platforms

Pros: I can watch movies on my 55" Samsung TV, and it's great. Gaming is not so great using an i7 860 on an Evga E657 For The Win motherboard.

One egg off because XFX didn't fully test the product on all current computer platforms.......

Cons: The card definitely has issues with my EVGA E657 For The Win motherboard. AMD stated in email "I made a mistake purchasing it for use with Evga motherboard." I now totally agree. AMD states they never tested 5970 with a P55 motherboard, and XFX also states they never tested with P55 motherboard. I don't think Evga did either, but they never give me reliable info anyway.

Other Thoughts: The only way I'm going to be able to see great gaming results is when I either get an AMD 1090T platform computer or an X58 based computer. They have been tested and proven by AMD and XFX. Don't buy unless you have X58 or AMD system!

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME MONSTER VIDEO CARD

Pros: THIS VIDEO CARD IS AWESOME POWERFUL, IT RUNS EVERY GAME/ VIDEO YOU THROW AT IT. I PLAYED HARDCORE GAMES LIKE - CRYSIS WARHEAD / CALL OF DUTY MOD. WARFARE 2 ON RESOLUTIONS OF 1920 X 1200 AND THEY RAN SMOOTH, WITHOUT FLICKERING,NO FROZEN SCREENS, GRAPHICS AND SHADERS WERE OUTSTANDING BEAUTIFUL. THE TEMPS. AT IDLE WERE 40-45 DEGREES CENTIG. WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONER AND VIDEO CARD FAN ON AUTOMATIC AT 43%, AND UNDERLOAD TEMPS. WERE 55-58 DEGREES CENTIG. AT ROOM TEMPERATURE AND VIDEO CARD FAN AT 54% ON AUTOMATIC . I LIVE AT PUERTO RICO WHERE NORMAL TEMPS. ARE 86-94 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT ON SUMMER. MY PC SPECIFICATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS :

HAF 932 FULL TOWERCASE
NZXT DUAL BAY FAN CONTROLL.
DUAL DANGER DEN RADIATORS - 3 X 120 MMS FANS/EACH FOR COOLING CPU AND MOTHERBOARD IN SINGLE LOOP.
3 COOLERMAST. 120 MMS FANS ON PANEL NEAR VIDEO CARDS.
SWIFTECH APOGEE CPU COOL. BLOCK - 3.33 GHZ QUAD CORE PROCESSOR, AND SWIFTECH PUMP.
KOOLANCE RP-1000SL PUMP/RESERVOIR.
KOOLANCE INS-FM17 Coolant Flow Me

Cons: THESE CARDS RUNS HOT, BECAUSE OF DUAL PROCESSORS INTO THEM, BUT A WELL VENTILATED T. CASE AND A GOOD GRAPHIC'S FAN CHART CONFIGURATION FROM THE FREE DOWNLOAD FROM MSI AFTERBURNER WILL DO THE JOB. THESE ARE THE BEST VIDEO CARDS SOLD IN MARKET TODAY, SO NO MORE EVGA MICROWAVE VIDEO CARDS ( A PURE WASTE OF MONEY)

Other Thoughts: I BELIEVE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS GETTING A WELL VENTILATED TOWERCASE WITH SEVERAL 120 MMS OR 140 MMS FANS PLACED IN FRONT OF VIDEO CARDS AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE, JUST FOR AVOIDING OVERHEATING. I DON'T LIKE VIDEO CARDS BEING WATER COOLED (TOO EXPENSIVE IF YOU DAMAGE THEM WHILE MOUNTING COOL. BLOCKS)

5 out of 5 eggsBeastly Card, Worth the money

Pros: Extremely quick. Haven't had a need to use the Overvolt tool yet that XFX provides when you register. Fastest video card I've ever owned and first ATI card. The size of this thing might get most people. It was a tight fit in my Antec 902 mid tower case and I had to remove the 3.5" mounts in the center for it to fit.

Cons: Runs hot at idle if you do not update the video BIOS to change the fan speed on the Catalyst software. 54C is what I saw idle, and upwards of up to 65-70C under load with auto fan control. Keep the fans on high!

Other Thoughts: Very important, if you buy this card, update the video bios and turn the fan on higher. The cooling system is great if it's actually running. I'm at 44C under load while gaming with the fan speed on 60%. Fantastic video card and will overpower anything out there right now.

5 out of 5 eggsi must say

Pros: power, speed and newegg :). i got this card and it fit perfectly in my xclio monster case (i modified it for liquid cooling). the card can run relatively quiet at 40% i set mine at 50%. as i am writing this review my room is 27.2'c/81'f and at 50% the card runs @ 34'c/94'f and never gets over 55'c when gaming at these temps.
i decided to test this game with a serious game population increase mod 4 warhammer 40k: dawn of war and at max resulution the game will only runs at 60 fps. on my previous gtx275 i would start seeing a drop in frames once i had used up all the poplution in the game (20/20). but with this card i have been over (64/124) and it rarely went in the fifties, talk about wow. i did find that it was important to get the latest 10.6 drivers for best performance. the other drivers didn't work as well.
i also am now able to connect my computer to my samsung 46'/120hz via hdmi and get my audio in the tv.

Cons: the cost 4 crying out loud lol. i had problems getting the sound to work with the nvidia card and i called nvidia repeatedly and tried their many many solutions but none worked. infact i found that many persons online were having the same problems with no solutions whatsoever.
all the gaming performances i have had thus far with this card is without any mod to the card. this card is powerful and while at it's current clock speeds it will not out shine 2 8750 in cross fire, if you were to liquid cool it or get a good fan replacement then you would see an on par performance with this card to the crossfire (according to online reviews). i truly love this card and while it is expensive it is definatley worth it's weight in ...$dollars. my pictures also look stunning with great zooming detail with the right software ofcource. always ensure that it is running both cores for added performance.
your cpu can, n will bottleneck this card so u might have to overclock for better performance.

Other Thoughts: well i have this card running with a q9550@2.8ghz overclocked to 3.7ghz and am loving it.
cpu is liquid cooled so my temps are in the low 30's at these speeds.
asus p5q3 m.b
xigmatek 850 watts psu
asus & lg lightscribe dvd burners (looove lightscribe)
custom liquid cooling that's very good,
xclio full tower case
samsung 27" 70,000:1 computer monitor sweeeet,
logitech THX Z-5300e 280 watts 5.1 speaker system,
creative x-fi titaniun sound card,
dlink dir-655 (best router i have ever used)
and cable internet clocking 30mb/10mb speeds for online gaming, yea i do love my setup.
i love newegg and will continue to shop here. ups has improved a little which is good.

5 out of 5 eggsSweetCard

Pros: I like it. A lot. It runs at 51 C at idle.Under full load, it reaches the low 70's. This is with the fan at 30% (prior posters are right...it gets real loud at around 60% and up). Initally I had no manual fan control with CCC, but updating the card's bios took care of that. Thank you XFX tech support. I'm playing Metro 2033 on high at 1920x1200 and it's smooth as silk.

Cons: I'm lousy at Metro 2033. :D

5 out of 5 eggsThe Graphics King

Pros: Very fast graphics card. Downloaded overvolt tool from the manufacturer and pushed this beast to 900MHz/1250Mhz max. Was getting 105 fps at 1920x1080 in AvP benchmark. At default clock speeds, still fast but not as fast as two 5870 cards in CrossfireX mode. Averaged 63 fps in CoP benchmark with everything maxed out.

Cons: Cannot adjust fan speed without bios update. Something wrong with my motherboard that does not allow this--resulted in a paperweight and had to RMA. This card is huge, just barely fits in my mid size tower. It also runs very hot, 70+ degrees when maxed out and is even hot when at idle.

Other Thoughts: My specs:
3.4 GHz Quad core AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition
AMD 890FX Crosshair IV Formula
Corsair XMS 8GB DDR3 1600
XFX Radeon 5970 Black Edition
Antec 750W Power Supply
Silverstone Fortress FT02 Case
