Best Priced card on the market.. It beats the GTX 260 and is just below the GTX 280..

So that makes the HD 4870 1GB ...

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome bang for your buck

Pros: It's fast, it's within a budget price range, and the card fan isn't loud at all.

Cons: It's huge, I had to cut a piece off the back of my case so it could fit.

Other Thoughts: This card is great if your looking for good performance for a good price ratio.

I recommend this card.

3 out of 5 eggsRMA'd the first one

Pros: While it worked it was a phenomenal card. Only issues I had were compatibility issues with developers assuming everyone uses nvidia. The card itself up to the point mentioned below was fantastic.

Cons: Had to RMA the first card, waiting on the replacement. The first day I noticed after installing it that it hummed a bit but was tolerable. Second day as soon as I started up my computer the card hummed at a very loud decibel level. Contacted XFX and the first guy wasn't too helpful. Gave it a few days and lo and behold started to see artifacts. Contacted XFX again and the second guy was very helpful and suggested I RMA to NewEgg since it's within the 30 day warranty.

Would be 5 eggs if the card hadn't been faulty.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if the initial guy I talked to at XFX was having a bad day, but he didn't seem to believe me when I told him the humming might be the signs of some incoming trouble. He said and I quote "All electronics make noise."

XFX is known for good customer support so maybe he just had a bad day. Newegg was very helpful in teaching me the RMA process and even paid to ship it back to them. 3 eggs because of the support I got, knocked 2 off because the card showed faults starting the second day as well as the initial lack of support I got from XFX. Telling me the loud humming (as loud as a vacuum when the fan was at zero percent) was normal is not a good way for someone brand-new to your product lines.

Hoping the replacement works, because I want to support XFX and ATI as well as Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card

Pros: This was the card that went into my first build, it runs great, awesome card with great features, catalyst control center is great and I love the manual fan control speed. It keeps cool and is awesome. I am running Crysis on high settings and it runs perfectly no hiccups. Comes with a sweet doorhanger (don't throw it away it has your cards serial number on the back)Highly reccomended.

Cons: Drivers on CD are outdated. Had to go to ati.com. no major issues.

Other Thoughts: Awesome. Buy it.

4 out of 5 eggsFan quality varies?

Pros: Performance and quality is amazing. I'm running 1920x1200. Crysis on high is super smooth. UT2004 sometimes hits 330+fps, never goes below 79fps even on "bad" maps. UT3, HL2E2, everything is smooth as glass.

I'm not sure how/why but the text on my desktop seems clearer/sharper. It could just be my senile old brain but it seems easier on the eyes.

Cons: I think the fans must vary in quality because mine is extremely loud. Even at 60% it's very loud and annoying. It also runs very hot as others have said. 80F ambient and it's idling at 67-68C with the fan on automatic speed control (currently 62%, board is not overclocked)

I knocked an egg off for the noise because it's a sliding/scraping sort of sound as if the fan is making contact with the housing or something. It doesn't sound like normal fan blade noise, it's pretty high pitched and it's annoying.

Other Thoughts: It's big as others have noted, however it's a "better big" than the GB fanless 3850 it replaced. The cooler on that card is on the "wrong" side and covered/almost interfered with the RAM and chipset cooler (P35-DS3L) The cooler on this one is on the other side (on the right side when looking at the expansion slots from the rear) and there's tons of clearance.

I'm not sure I'll be able to live with the noise but the performance is fantastic. I can't believe what a huge difference there is. I thought all the really cool effects I've seen on Crysis were only available with Vista/DX10 but going from the HD3850 to this made all the difference in the world. Fantastic video effects and I'm still running plain ol' XP w/DX9

5 out of 5 eggswhoa!!!

Pros: schnikies!!! i upgraded from a BFG nvidia 9500 1GB DDR2 video card. and wow. i couldn't run max settings even with 1GB of memory. i am maxing out current games farcry 2, dead sapce, prototype, x-men wolverine, bioshock at 1980 x 1080. what made the difference between the two cards is that the 4870 has 256 bit interface instead of 128 and it DDR3. thats what makes the difference. and the core clock is set to 655. you can easily overclock that sucker upto 700 if you want. i would higher the fan speed if you do that. don't want that card to run hot. its just amazing! you can control the fan speed and overclocking is very easy with the catalyst software that comes with the card. get your game on!!!

Cons: its a little big. had to move my hard drive up a few slots but no biggy. thats a 2 min fix

Other Thoughts: buy it already.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple Review

Pros: Even tho i'm on XP with no DX10+ this thing screams beauty. I've gotten on steam and gotten the latest demos...batman, fear 2, etc...and this thing ran them almost flawlessly on a 5 year old PC (p4 3.0ghz, 1gigram) at 1920x Resolutions! I was amazed! That 1gig on the card really screams when its needed. Fear2 was the only sluggish, but that was due to my PC going after the page file as it ran out of RAM after the 550~ meg mark since i had a lot of stuff running passively.

ITS QUIET!!! The 100% fan (when changed) is kinda loud, but it is about as loud as my PSU when i crank its fan up to max. Not going to complain when i used to have to fight my volume control vs my X800XT to watch Rescue Me....

Cons: Not much...the thing puts out some heat, its really hot blowing air out the small gap under the plastic duct system. Could probably cook some popcorn on that air alone under full load.

Other Thoughts: Once the new pc i ordered comes in I may XFire these, depending on if the performance is beneficial. But for now, running games at 1920x Resolutions with this junky old computer I have....i wont be complaining for a while. :)
