The EVGA GeForce GT 640 02G-P4-2645-KR graphics card is designed for the PCs that deserve great graphics. It taps into the powerful next-generation GeForce architecture to deliver premium multimedia performance and reliable entry-level gaming - every time. Insist on EVGA dedicated graphics for faster, more immersive performance in your favorite applications.

  • newegg Kepler GPU Architecture NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance in the latest DirectX 11 games, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card.
  • newegg NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround with Up To three Monitors Nothing is as breathtaking as playing your favorite games across three monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages human peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators.
  • newegg New Anti-aliasing Modes: FXAA Anti-aliasing smoothes out jagged edges but can be demanding on framerates. FXAA is a new antialiasing technology that produces beautiful smooth lines with minimal performance impact. And with Kepler based GPUs, you'll be able to enable FXAA in hundreds of game titles through the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • newegg Blu-ray 3D support Connect your PC to any 3D enabled TV over HDMI and enjoy a cinematic 3D experience in your home with seamless support for 1080p Blu-ray 3D discs.
  • newegg NVIDIA PhysX Technology Full support for NVIDIA PhysX technology enables a totally new class of physical gaming interaction for a more dynamic and realistic experience with GeForce.

2 out of 5 eggsNever again

Pros: Great little card. It works well, until it doesn't

Cons: I'm am so upset with evga rma service. You would think they could have hired someone to explicitly write in the instructions that "it must be in a box", or we will refuse it. No a picture of a box with the card in it with a caption stating that "this is a perfect example" is not good enough. I read. The words were not there. Maybe I'm wrong to assume that an oversized envelope stuffed to near bursting with bubble wrap was way better than a cheap cardboard box with some news paper, and a layer or two of bubble wrap. Second card from them out of two that has quit on me. I'll be switching companies and paying more money for a better experience from now on.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for driving 2560 x 1440 resolution monitors

Pros: Has a DVI-D and a DVD-I dual port so that is good.

Cons: All the 2560 x 1440 monitors require DVI-D so good thing the other monitor can handle DVD-I and is lower resolution or this would be a useless card for me.

Other Thoughts: Couldn't find a cheaper card to run 2560 x1440 DVD-D and at least a DVD-I to run the other monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat entry-level video card

Pros: Compact and stylish design. Quick response. Easy setup. I bought to upgrade a Dell i7 desktop to an entry level HD video editing workstation. Ran with 8Gb of memory and activated the Cuda core engine while running Adobe Premiere. Ran smooth with 1 - 2 layers of video with 1-2 low end effects. More than that slowed it down quite a bit but I expected that given its specs.

Cons: None that I noticed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for what it does!

Pros: Purchased this card strictly for Physx and nothing else. Like the fact that is all black and comes with 2 gigs of ram.

Cons: Nothing really.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this card!

Pros: Have been running this in my HTPC since Sept of last year. Works flawlessly! Windows 7 Pro x64 install was simple and straightforward. Beautiful picture. Audio piped through Micro HDMI works flawlessly Quick, simple, easy and quiet.

Cons: The only annoyance is the constant barrage of updates from NVidia. Install a new driver, reset the resolution, resize the screen slightly to get the most of my 70" Flat screen LED TV. Kind of a pain.

Other Thoughts: Wish it was available in a low profile version. Have 3 SFF PCs. Just ordered a Gigabyte version for two of them. GT 640 shows well in their reviews.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Multi monitor Card and Nvidia Stability

Pros: Single slot solution, Does not require an additional power connection. Great performance for all your general computing needs. Very nice card for users like pro Traders or multi taskers who need extra monitor support. This card powers 3 monitors with no issues at all.
Go nvidia to avoid the AMD/ATI driver issues.

Cons: Not a great gamer card but that's not what its for.

3 out of 5 eggsHorrible screen tearing in Ubuntu Linux

Pros: Quiet, PCI 3.0, works flawlessly in Windows 7

Cons: Horrible screen tearing during video playback in Linux, not so inexpensive for an outdated card

Other Thoughts: I've tried everything - different drivers, all anti-tearing options, different outputs in different video players (OpenGL/GLX, VDPAU, X11. Acceleration on/off etc and no matter what there is screen tearing watching vids. Never had any problems with my older 7600GS. Doesn't appear to be a VSync issue as VSync is on and verified. Everything plays fine in Windows 7, so it's not a hardware issue with the card per se, most likely NVidia drivers for it, but either way the tearing is unacceptable. Just figure I'd post this for other Linux users.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Peter L,
We would like to try and offer further help with troubleshooting your setup since sounds as though there might be a problem with the installed distribution of your Linux operating system. Can you please let us know if you have looked on the distributions forums or help area for assistance with your setup? If you should need further support, please contact our 24 hour support at 1-888-881-3842 option 1, or by email at newegg@evga.com.

Sincerely,
EVGA Customer Support

2 out of 5 eggsBeware of screen tearing in Linux!

Pros: 2GB memory, PCIe 3.0

Cons: Still costly for being so outdated, screen tearing in Linux playing two videos at once and I've tried every setting to stop tearing, EVERYTHING and nothing works. Had no tearing with my 7600GS that it replaced and I'll say it' doesn't exhibit tearing in Windows 7. Now I'm looking at swapping it out. Also old DDR3 memory.
