ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

ADVANCED TWIN FROZR IV

MSI's Twin Frozr has been the industry defining graphics card cooler. The first Twin Frozr kicked off the dual-fan trend and today MSI stays true to its dual-fan dual-slot design where others have to resort to less effective means.

The other part that the Twin Frozr cooler uses is a large Aluminium fin grid array that provides a huge amount of surface area for cooling. Heat from the GPU is transferred to the fin grid array by virtue of heat pipes with MSI's special SuperPipe technology. SuperPipes transfer heat twice as fast as regular heat pipes enabling an MSI GAMING graphics card to stay cooler than the competition.

Futhermore, MSI provide all new Airflow Control technology on Twin Frozr. This new thermal technology is leading airflow to heat pipes by a special deflector on the heatsink, so it can deflect more airflow to heat pipes directly. In addition, this exclusive design is increasing the area of heatsinking which enhances the efficiency of dissipation much more.

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

MILITARY CLASS COMPONENT

One of the deciding factors in performance is the quality of the components used. That is why MSI only uses MIL-STD-810G certified components for its gaming cards because only these components have proven to be able to withstand the torturous circumstances of extreme gaming and overclocking.

SOLID CAP

One with their aluminum core design, Solid CAP's have been a staple in high-end mainboard designs and provides lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) as well as its over-10-year lifespan.

SOLID CAP

Hi-C CAP

A Hi-c CAP is a very small, but super-efficient capacitor. Besides ensuring enough spacing around a CPU socket to install large coolers, it also allows for 93% energy efficiency. Thanks to Hi-c CAP's, MSI mainboards are the most energy-efficient in the market.

Hi-C CAP

NEW SUPER FERRITE CHOKES

New Super Ferrite Chokes use a Ferrite core that is Super-Permeable. This allows the Super Ferrite Chokes to run at a 35-degree Celsius lower temperature, have a 30% higher current capacity, a 20% improvement in power efficiency, and better overclocking power stability.

2 out of 5 eggsMSI R9 280x is Hit and Miss

Pros: I initially chose this card because of its small size in comparison to the other brands that manufactured the r9 280x. It functioned fairly well and could play most games at max settings- 60 FPS. I also didn't experience the "coil whine" that many claim to be experiencing.

Cons: Recently it began crashing to a solid colored screen with black vertical lines. (this is a common issue with the r9 280x's as I've seen plenty of posts about this issue on multiple forums) This would be less of an issue if it wouldn't have occurred less than 10 months after purchasing and installing the card.

I am in the process of RMA-ing the card and depending on the service provided there, I may add another egg to the rating.

Other Thoughts: I would stay away from this card, and if I had the choice again I would most definitely go purchase another EVGA-Nvidia card instead. Save yourself the hassle and at the very least purchase the 280x from a different manufacturer.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but slightly disappointed

Pros: Runs everything I throw at it with good fps. Not a huge burn on my systems power. Fit decently in my case.

Cons: Somewhat lacking in performance based on benchmarks of the same card and acts a little glitch sometimes. Also the fan is loud when its hot.

2 out of 5 eggsUnsatisfied

Pros: none so far, havent got it operational.

Cons: Im thinking this card may be DOA i installed it as per the intruction manuals 3 step and very unspecific instalation process. it does nothing, and my system has no onboard graphics so atm im still stuck with the card i was trying to upgrade from. again, not sure if im doing something wrong or their might be something else i have to hook to it..
the instalation guide is a real joke. it says nothing about any of the accessory ports, dosent even say what they are or do, just says jam the card in place, boot up, and run the disk.

Other Thoughts: Gave it 2 Eggs because the card is a real beauty, and looks like it could blow my games out of the water, if it worked.
card is long for my tower, i have literally a half inch of space between the end of it and disk drive bay platforms.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Powerful, handled everything i played just fine.

Cons: After 7-8 months its stopped working , people suggested it was a driver issue, i tried updating them, i tried older versions also, and nothing fixed. I re-installed windows also, and installed the original drivers it came with on the CD and that didn't work either.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat for 8 months

Pros: Bought card when it was first released and never had any problems, card never went above 70c on any games.

Cons: In July 2014 started getting artifacts so bad that i couldn't use computer so i put my old card in and that fixed problem...So I RMA the card and spend 25 dollars sending it back, after about 10 days i recieved a refurb, installed it and comp runs fine but after about 2 minutes in any game the 280X temp jumps to 85c.

I know some people say that temps that high are acceptable but if the card i sent in wasn't going over 70c, then i'm not keeping this one with these very high temps.Seeing a lot of bad reviews for the MSI 280x on various sites and complaints about temps.

If I have to pay to send it back again, i will be very upset, 25$ each time because the sent me a card with its on problems and it appears MSI needs to do something about their QA.

Other Thoughts: Guess it's time to RMA again.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good GPU

Pros: Runs a lot of game on very high with no problem. The software they have for the Gpu makes it easy to check the statues of the GPU. The overclocking system is easy to use too.

Cons: Its a bit bulky and a tight squeeze trying to get into my case

5 out of 5 eggsProps to MSI

Pros: Great Card.
Runs pretty much anything current with great results.
Stays extremely cool.
Super quite.

This is my second MSI card after upgrading. Done a lot of research prior to buying my first. Since it was my first time building a PC. Glad I went with MSI. So when upgrading, I knew exactly who to go to.

Cons: None yet.
It's a little long. So it has a tight squeeze in my case. But it's no big deal.

Other Thoughts: My only complaint is Newegg. I paid for rush delivery, but it still took around three days to actually be shipped. But I wasn't charged. Not worth taking away an eggs for such a good product.

1 out of 5 eggsFans are garbage

Pros: None

Cons: 2/3 of these cards had to be RMA'd because the fans stopped spinning properly. MSI refused to pay for shipping. I've purchased several MSI products in the past (boards, video cards etc.) and never had a problem, however these R9 280x cards have been a nightmare.

Other Thoughts: I will not be buying any more MSI products from now thanks to their poor customer service.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: This card is a monster! It replaced my 5870. Every game I had was getting slaughtered, even when I moved to a 1440p monitor. I can usually max everything (except AA) on all new titles, and consistently stay above 60 fps. The fans are pretty quiet, too. A mild overclock is possible, as well.

Cons: When I first got it, and I was benchmarking it with 3dmark, there was a little bit of coil whine. This never would happen while gaming, though.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card back in late October 2013 when it first came out. I have experienced 0 of the issues others have mentioned.
