The all new R6870 Hawk is the world's first graphics card to use propeller blade technology which can increase airflow by 20% compared to traditional fan blades. Equipped with MSI advanced Twin Frozr III thermal design, the R6870 Hawk brings you an up to 21°C cooler and 7dB quieter gaming experience while you rip through the latest titles. Furthermore, it uses the 8+2 phase PWM design to provide the GPU with 2 times the power supply, along with Military Class II Components and triple overvoltage functions via MSI Afterburner that allow further evolution of R6870 Hawk's overclocking capability. The R6870 Hawk has the most perfect performance blend of cooling, power components, stability, and high performance found on a graphics card today.

  • newegg MSI-exclusive Propeller Blade Technology & Twin Frozr III The R6870 Hawk is equipped with the advanced version of Twin Frozr III cooling design with the MSI-exclusive propeller blade technology. When compared with traditional fan blade design, it not only increases the air flow by 20%, but the grooved surface on the fan blade further extends the range of air flow to remove more heat generated by the graphics card. Additionally, dual 8cm PWM fans, SuperPipe technology and a nickel-plated copper base allow the heat to be removed quickly and effectively. When compared to the reference design, the GPU temperature is decreased by up to 21 degrees and the noise level is lowered by 7dB.
  • newegg Performance/Silent Modes MSI-exclusive P/S Switch function on the R6870 Hawk was developed with two fan speed profiles: Performance Mode and Silent Mode. The former emphasizes an enhanced cooling power that can significantly reduce GPU temperature to keep the graphic card at the optimal working condition, while the latter stresses on quiet operations for users to keep noise minimal while playing games or watching a movie. As both modes deliver excellent cooling performance, even the pickiest power users can always keep the environment under control according to their needs.
  • newegg 8+2 Phase PWM Enhancement and Triple Overvoltage Supported Compared to the 4+1 phase design for the reference design, the R6870 Hawk uses 8+2 phase PWM design which provides twice the power supply to increase overclocking stability. Together with MSI's exclusive Afterburner overclocking software, the R6870 Hawk supports GPU/Memory/VDDCI triple voltage adjustment, greatly increasing the overclocking potential.
  • newegg Easy Overclocking V-Check Points further allow you to use a multi-meter to easily monitor the GPU/Memory/VDDCI voltage status. Overclocking is made easy and simple on the R6870 Hawk by using the Afterburner overclocking software which lets you to monitor all aspects of graphics card performance, as well as save up to 5 user-defined overclocking profiles.
  • newegg Military Class II Components MSI R6870 Hawk graphics card uses the Military Class II Components such as Hi-C CAP, Super Ferrite Choke (SFC), and all-solid capacitors to enhance the overclocking headroom under high-load conditions. Hi-C CAPs have a lifespan 8 times that of traditional solid capacitors, increasing GPU stability and lifespan of the graphics card, while SFCs improves efficiency by 10% while increasing the maximum current output by 30%.

4 out of 5 eggsRandom Crashes fixed

Pros: Fast, has functionality with the software that comes with it.

Also gives incentive to buy second monitor; read cons...

Cons: Worked great for a while then I started getting random crashes. Especially when streaming video ie: youtube, etc... It is my understanding this is very common for this model...

I have had the card for 4 years now and recently purchased a second monitor. Running 2 monitors stopped all of the crashing. I have no idea why. The card works great now and hasn't crashed in months.

Other Thoughts: Thought I would post this since others may be having the same issue.

2 out of 5 eggsBad batches

Pros: Great card and when working plays just about anything I want to play. Runs cool and quiet compared to all my other fans (6 fans total). I would have given the card all 5 eggs if it worked properly since day one or if their was acknowledgement of the issue.

Cons: When installed I didn't have the time to thoroughly test the video card so when random crashes occurred I did not want to immediately want to believe my first $200+ video card was the problem. Sometimes these crashes would occur every 5 minutes or sometimes I would go days without having one. The screen would suddenly change to one solid color or might have many lines in vertical or horizontal.

Other Thoughts: The card is only faulted by its widespread problem that everyone is complaining about on these reviews. I have used only MSI for my motherboards in all my builds but that will be quickly rethought. No faults to Newegg but MSI quality and support have totally failed me with this card and will make double take when I purchase new hardware; I'll be checking the return and warranty policy before buying another product from any other company. MSI makes you pay for the shipping of a product back to their company and obviously the worker at the call center can't admit its a widespread problem.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great

Cons: Dead fan, and they wont send one too you like ANY other company would... nope they think you going without a card for 2-3weeks and charging you for it is better customer service.. XF* sent a fan no problems why can't you MSI

Other Thoughts: bad warranty service, would rather buy without warranty from this company.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues you experienced with this video card. Unfortunately, we do not have additional fans to send so we would just need to replace the card for you under an RMA. If you cannot afford downtime, we can offer a cross-ship for you. Please contact us for more details if you wish to set this up.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI bad service

Pros: It works great for over a year... Best looking 6870 imo..

Cons: Takes 2 6pins Eek!

MSI customer service / warranty is horrible.
Told me a new fan would cost 45$ for them to put on + shipping, Its still under warranty and i have to pay EXTRA?!

Other Thoughts: No seriously MSI whats a warranty for if i have to pay extra for a broken fan under warranty still..... 45$ too? to fix a fan? its a 5 dollar part... takes less then 1hour to install do you pay 40$ an hour to fix these? I want an app!

Ship me the fan and I'll put it on and you can pay me 40$ to do it!

5 out of 5 eggsJust the Sweet Spot

Pros: Beautiful design, Good Cooler, Runs Games Great on High/Ultra Settings.

Cons: NONE!

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a XFX 6670. This card runs 10x better in my opinion. It keeps quiet, and also comes with a Dirt 3 code!

4 out of 5 eggsKeeps amazingly cool

Pros: Keeps at least 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) cooler under load than my friends 6870. Silent and efficient. Almost noiseless.

Cons: Low headroom for overclocking. MSI Afterburner artificially limits its OCing potential. A shame, considering how well the card is cooled by its Twin Frozr fans. At a similar price range, you could pick up a 560ti for about ten dollars less.

Other Thoughts: If you're set on a 6870, this card won't disappoint, in fact, it's probably the best 6870 on the market. However, if you're after pure gaming performance and not worried about heat or noise, then there's always a budget variation of the 560ti you could get and overclock.

Possible to run New Vegas on high smoothly with this and a 955 BE @ 4.0ghz.

5 out of 5 eggsGood card

Pros: Very good card. Runs anything i throw at it.
From BF3 to Minecraft.
OC is very easy using MSI Afterburner.

Cons: Nothing, can get loud when fans are on auto and you start playing games, but thats expected.
Usually goes around 3000 or so RPM while gaming and 1500 or so on idle.

5 out of 5 eggsWish I got this for me!

Pros: -Price/Performance ratio
-Super Quiet
-very cool
-quality build

Cons: -Size: It is very large.
-Is quieter than my vapor-x: Only a con because I purchased this for a friend's PC, not mine!

Other Thoughts: This 2 fan configuration makes this card cooler and quieter than my Saphire Vapor-X of the same series.
It is a large card but I can't really complain about that.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome card, but...

Pros: This card is extremely fast for the price and I am very happy with it. I play most games on ultra settings on 1600 x 900, including Crysis 2 with the dx11 and texture packs. Super quiet, even under load. Doesn't go above 60c under load (I have a very large and well cooled case).

Cons: Either it is tricky to overclock or it doesn't do it well, getting not even 5% performance increase... Very large (had to buy new case, but I should've looked that up before buying it). The GTX 480 was on sale for the same price, I should've got that instead for the performance difference.

Other Thoughts: Looking forward to getting a second one to go crossfire.

5 out of 5 eggsBought local; same card n manufact

Pros: Quiet; at least can't hear it over 10 fans :P
Grabbed 2 of them, no issues with crossfire nor driver issues.
No microstutter or tearing, ever..

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: bf3 on 3 monitors on high with these cards overclocked a bit more avg 60fps; medium = 90fps; single monitor i was looking at 120fps on medium; and roughly 90 on high. with 60 on ultra but some slight changes to filtering.

No issues on any games i've tested thus far;- all working out of box.
