5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: This is a great video card. Runs everything I throw at it at high settings.

Cons: Price, Poor drivers until recently (9.2) The overall size of the card, it is huge. the card takes up 3 slots and is quite long. It even dwarfs my old 8800gtx. Fans are loud at full speed

Other Thoughts: Turning the fan speed down to 75% drops the noise to a much better level, 50% is about as quiet as it gets but i wouldn't turn it down that far unless your only watching movies or something for a while.

5 out of 5 eggsBest PCIe GFX money can buy End of story

Pros: Not since the ASUS EAX1900XTX have I had so much pleasure from a GFX Card.

Once again Asus has done the impossible & made what potentialy could have been the biggest FAIL ever into what certainly is the best GFX card on the market to date...

This card, I hope, will outlast any other brand / revision in the DX 10.xx for years to come just like the EAX1900XTX did.

My card runs cooler than advertised (perhaps the case & setup), runs rings around every card it has been tested against, even cards that are overclocked have not stood up to this card at stock settings.

Works perfectly on an Asus M4A79 Deluxe mobo and takes full advantage of the 790FX, a marriage made in cyber heaven for sure.

Early ATi Drivers held it back a tad causing a minor upset, the latest on offer makes this card bulletproof.

This puppy & it's twin (when it arrives) can handle everything I throw at it without breaking a sweat.

Every Game MAXED OUT & yeilding Frame rates never before seen.

BUY IT

Cons: Minor issues, not the card itself tho'...

Didn't come with the free game that was on offer at the time.

Needed a new mobo as the old board I had lost 2 SATA's due to size but then it was an old board made for cards a few generations older...

The driver disk that come with it & the other goodies on it... drop it in the trash, visit Asus & grab everything from their FTP.

As I said, no faults with the card, just minor issues with things around it.

Other Thoughts: As I said, I have not seen performance like this from anything other than an Asus EAX1900XTX which I purchased over 4 years ago & still plays any game maxed out...

When you spend the money on the best that Asus has to offer you are buying something that you won't need to replace every 6 months to keep up with everybody else.

There is an old saying: "Buy Once, Cry Once",

In other words, it may cost a packet but it will be the only purchase needed for quite some time...
Buy a lower ended version or another brand & you will be buying again in the not too distant future.

Running this card out to a pair of 40 inch sony bravia KDL-40WL140's with 120Hz refresh on every game maxed out on Win 7 64 bit Beta & the latest Cat' drivers... the card does not break a sweat under full load & runs cooler than the advertised temps.
Grab a mobo with at least the 790FX chipset & you won't regret spending 1/2 a grand on a dual GPU.
If only the cat' drivers & panel would report the Ram as is.

1 out of 5 eggsDriver problems

Pros: None right now.

Cons: One of the 4870 is working and the other one is showing this: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I removing the old ATI software and driver. I also used DriverSweeper and Driver Cleaner then installed the new 9.2 driver with no fix to the second gpu.

Other Thoughts: I'm running Vista 64 with ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX

1 out of 5 eggsAn over rated video card

Pros: The tri-fan keeps the card extremely cool based on the ASUS Doctor and Catalyst temp monitors. Setting the card to run at the default clock speed (it's downclocked as per catalyst) the temps are about 41c at idle and below 60c under load with fan at 70%; ambient . The fan is amazingly quiet at 65-75% and is louder then other stock dual slot coolers set at 100% fan speed.

Cons: CD-ROM drivers do not allow manual fan settings and cause display to flicker even while resting at the desktop.
My ASUS 9800 GT Ultimate performs as well as this card and cost $400 less.
Randomly loses display image and causes machine to seize.
Tried 4-5 different drivers and best case is random lockups, worst case is an unusable machine.
Desgin and Quality Control are poor - the alum blocks on the GPU/RAM (2 blocks, each one covers one half of the card) only cover 40% of the RAM on several of the chips due to the tri-fan design which could have been easily resolved if there were a cut/grove cut into the Alum Blocks which was not done; An unqualified person could greately improve upon this cooling system if they are confident and I'm sure a fabricator would cut a grove in the Alum blocks to allow them to properly fit over the RAM which should greatly improve the cooling effecientcy; a file and/or a hacksaw is all that's needed for do-it-your-selfers.

Other Thoughts: This card is a major let down. While I believe there's a possibility the issues I'm experiancing are unique to my machines configuration I doubt this is the case since there are others who report flickering whlie at the desktop and in games with this card. When it comes down to it, this card is excessively over rated and I would not recomend it to anyone due to the poor functionality of video drivers. When you move from an ASUS 9800GT Ultimate to this card you expect serious gains.
My Machine:
Vista 64 SP1
P5E3 Premium WiFi; BIOS 0704
E8400 1600fsb @ 3.6
2x 1gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 1
22" Samsung 1680x1050

My advice is Do Not Purchase the 4870x2 series of cards due to the terrible driver support from ATI. I've never been biased and have owned 3 ATI cards (including this one) and 2 nvida cards in the last 2 years. Save your money, do not buy ATI and get a card you'll know is supported, get an nVidia card.
*note: tri-fan covers 2 slots.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: One of the best on the market right now in terms of power. The fans do seem to keep the card cool and the catalyst control center is an easy way to manage your settings and if you want to, to overclock the card

Cons: kind of big, but my Antec 1200 has room for it

Other Thoughts: 8gb of DDR3, 2.67Ghz Core i7, vista 64bit.

2 out of 5 eggsFlawed Card.

Pros: Needed to re-post, I have aquired info from ASUS. After exhausting methods of fixing probs. Got an ASUS tech on the phone, He let me know that the probs I was having, Are because it is a defective card. So I need to spend 20-25 bucks to send i back so thay can try to fix it. If they can't they said that they would replace the card.

Cons: Beware of the rebates. Hence make sure that there are NO probs with card before you cut the UPC off the box and send it in. If you remove the UPC you loose the 1 Yr. Replacement warenty, Because Newegg will not accept the card back without the UPC. Sorry OUT of luck. I have a prob with this as I spent $500.00 for a brand new card, Now I have to send it to ASUS and let them try to fix the brand NEW card that never worked correctly out of the box.

Other Thoughts: I feel that because of the rebate/replacement warrenty issues, Newegg should try to make some kind of agreement, since the rebate w/upc went to ASUS.

3 out of 5 eggsHuge card

Pros: Fast card.

Cons: Clock speed shows at 507 instead of the 750 claimed. AI Catalyst DOES NOT work. Causes the card and PC to crash if Catalyst is on. Have Tech tickets outstanding, Card cosistantly resets it's self to the Clock speed of 507. Have Black spots during game play with BF2. Down loaded ATI Catalyst 9.2, It does not fix the Catalyst issues or the spots. Does give fan control.

Other Thoughts: Hope they come out with better software soon!
