Very high default clocks. Went from a 4850 to this and my frames almost doubled in some applications.

3 out of 5 eggsDiamond HD4890 OC

Pros: Fast, not to noisy, Seems to run most games. Price/Speed very good. Multiple types of rear panel connectors

Cons: Using Windows 7 32B Pro
Cannot get it to be stable in Crysis at resolutions above 1024x768. Various tests indicate that there is either a very subtle problem with card hardware or current ATI drivers, or coding in Crysis. Symptoms are dump to Crysis menu, crash when video options are saved, and crash during game play, most noticeable in final battle on carrier. Similar symptoms were noted on an HP "multimedia" Laptop running Vista Ult with an entirely different Nvidia Video chip set.
The first card would not pass Win 7 3d performance testing. The replacement provided promptly by New Egg (Currently using) Does Pass.
Under clocking seems to help somewhat, but does not cure the problems. Minor efforts were made to increase cool air flow with slightly positive results, and might be useful if overclocking the card is desired. The case airflow is high and cool, and should be adequate without additional baffles or other tricks.

Other Thoughts: Card and accessories do not match the descriptions on New Egg or Diamonds web site. The card has two 6 pin power connectors, even thought the circuit card is made to accept one 8 pin and one 6 pin connector.
Processor AMD 955 black 4 core
DDR2 1066 memory
910 W PS single buss

4 out of 5 eggsBest Price-to-Performance Ratio Today

Pros: 1. 925MHz core, 1050MHz memory overclock right out of the box.
2. Excellent performance at 1920x1200 with high quality settings and full-screen anti-aliasing (FSAA) on modern PC games/engines.
3. Killer price-to-performance ratio.
4. Better performance than HD5770.
5. DVI-D, HDMI and Display Port output.
6. No dumb pictures of dragons, wizards or busty women anywhere on the hardware.

Cons: 1. Higher power requirements of the OC may require a more robust 600+ watt power supply depending on your particular setup.
2. Average noise - definitely not quiet, but not too loud.
3. Decent heat-sink, however the shroud does not direct hot air out the back of the card/case.

Other Thoughts: I have been building PC's, researching, spec'ing hardware, making recommendations personally/professionally and consulting on PC gaming for over 10 years and I feel completely comfortable saying this card is a veritable heavyweight that should satisfy all but hardcore enthusiasts with it's solid performance and build quality.

The photo gallery for this product is not entirely accurate - the card I received w/ the same SKU is actually black, the shroud is different and 2xDVI is achieved via adapter, however the specifications for the core clock and memory, etc are accurate.

If you're looking for a card to buy today, do so without regret. You'll be hard pressed to find a better deal for the performance level until either the 58XX series gains higher availability or we see price drops from the competition.

Very satisfied - but 4 eggs due to noise and the fact that HD5770 is a viable option if you're looking to future proof with the latest technology (DX11, Eyefinity).

Enjoy!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Card has great OC out of the box.

Cons: Fan makes alot of noise.

Other Thoughts: Great card, but I found that in order to have the card perform at the higher stock speeds the fan needs to be turned up manualy

3 out of 5 eggsUpdate Fix for unstable cards

Pros: Update to previous post on 10/6/2009

Cons: Update to previous post on 10/6/2009

Other Thoughts: In utter rage after not being able to run this card at factory OC stable, I wend to get a better 3rd party GPU cooler and a 3rd party 4890 specific VRM cooler.

(PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MAY VOID THE WARRANTY)

During installation and removal of the stock cooler, I found that some of the heat transfer material used on the VRMs seem to be defective. One side of the strip which was covering a large part of one VRM was crumbling and may not of cover the VRM properly. This may or may not of caused the stability issue, i'm just not sure.

Anyways after installing the 3rd party cooler the card now runs fine at 925 CORE/1050 MEM and at much more acceptable noise levels too. So it looks like the chips that come with this card will do 925 CORE with proper cooling. If your looking to get cherry picked 4890 cores for OCing this card is a good place to start, but be prepared to spend a little extra if your card is not stable with the stock cooler.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my review

Pros: (this is an update to my previous review)

Cons: (this is an update to my previous review)

Other Thoughts: Following the lead from other reviewers, I turned down clock speeds to the "reference" speed and was able to use this without artifacts. So, not such a disaster, but they advertise it as "factory overclocked" implying it would work at that speed. Mine doesn't.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed with this card

Pros: Good price, powerful card

Cons: I bought this card to play Empire: Total War and also Dragon Age Origins. In both of those apps, plus FurMark, I get major graphic artifacts. Black squares and shapes flashing, odd jaggy triangles, that kind of thing. I am running at stock speeds.

Diamond's tech support web site is very wonky and I had to call several times to get anyone to pick up my ticket.

RMA'd the thing; they sent it back saying that they flashed the BIOS, tested it in Far Cry and it was stable. Well I hooked it back up and its no different. Constant ugly black squares and splotches. So now I am stuck with a $230 piece of junk that makes my games look horrible unless I turn off all the gfx options.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I just got a bad card? I don't know. I am going to try to get them to replace it, else I may just sell this on the [unmentionable auction site] and get a 5850 from a different manufacturer.

2 out of 5 eggsGood but needs better cooling

Pros: Very high default clocks. Went from a 4850 to this and my frames almost doubled in some applications.

Cons: Had this card now for 3 months. The reference cooler and stock fan speeds are inadequate for such a highly OC card! Minor artifacts are noticeable in some games and some games are more prone to crashing to desktop after the card is in prolong usage of a hour or more.

Other Thoughts: To solve my problems I had to down clock from 925 CORE/1050 MEM to 850 CORE/975 MEM. After this was done no more problems. Another solution is to increase fan speed, but the noise level at high speeds are unacceptably loud for normal use.

Diomnd's process of selecting chips for their OC products is unsatisfactory, as this problem had been reported by another reviewer as well. It feels like they are trying to squeeze additional $ from you by just taking a stock 4890, rebranding it as a faster OC edition with a bios flash, and completely ignore testing it for stability all together. Roll the dice if you are buying this card but do not expect the default clocks to be 100% stable.

4 out of 5 eggsDiamond MM HD4890 OC

Pros: Fast, decent up to date drivers (ATI 9.9 version), runs well under Win 7 RTM
Good selection of rear panel output connector types.
Seems to based on the ATI reference design.
Crysus and Halo run very well

Cons: Slightly over priced compared to competition. First card had to be RMA'd & replaced. Worked, but was not stable at 925 GPU spec. Had to slow down to 900 or below to complete Win7 preformance testing. Card would "white Screen" at the very start of the 3D tests. Card Fan Speed control needs to speed up fan sooner than it does in order to get ahead of 3D related temperature increases.
Replacement Card passes with no problems at rated GPU speed.

Other Thoughts: AMD 955 "Black" quad core
Asus M4A79 Deluxe MBD
2 Gig x 2 OCX DMM2 memory @ 1033
300G SATA WD3000HLFS
320G SATA WD3200AAKS
USB Mouse & Keyboard
910W Powersupply
ANTEC Case with five fans, three are speed controlled.
ASUS VH232H LCD Display
External USB DVD Burner

4 out of 5 eggsWhat is newegg selling?

Pros: Fast. Relatively quiet.

Cons: Big card. I ordered the card on this page (2 DVI) and got a different config with the same part number. Shows up as RV770 in GPU-Z.

Other Thoughts: I have no idea what card I actually got from newegg when I ordered this card. The part number and UPC all match up with what I ordered but I got a different port config - 1 HDMI, 1 DVI and 1 Displayport. The clock speeds are correct but GPU-Z shows the card as an RV770, which is the 4870. I'm thoroughly confused.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: The pros are obvious. The card is fast, overclocked, well supported, etc.

Cons: The moment I turned the PC on the card fan was sounding like something is interfering with it but nothing was even close to the video card. After a minute or less there was a lot of artifacts in any graphical or text mode. Moving the card to another slots, letting it cool down, testing the monitor/wiring did not fix the problem.

Other Thoughts: A competing NVidia card is now running perfectly.
