1 out of 5 eggsI was a huge supporter of Sapphire at one time.

Pros: Great quality (when it works)

Cons: RMA process is TERRIBLE. DO NOT buy Sapphire

Other Thoughts: I had a problem with my video card. I e-mailed Sapphire and they had no problem giving me the directions to get an RMA number issued. I contacted their third party company, and told me I need to mail the old video card back. I told them that my video card works currently (screen flickers) and that I use my computer for work. I asked them if they had an Advance RMA process, to which they said no, and not only that but it usually takes ONE to ONE AND A HALF WEEKS for them to send the card back to you!!! Sapphire didn't seem to care, and now have lost my business. I would suggest you are careful when dealing with them in the event you need to RMA your card.

5 out of 5 eggsExpected as much from card, cooler surprised me!

Pros: Awesome card
Awesome cooler. I replaced my 4870 (also from Sapphire) and this cooler keeps the card 5-10 degrees cooler than the standard coolers. It idles at 40 C in my midsized case (Antec 900). That's because I have the fan running at 50%, and I can't hear it over the sound of my case fans, which I have running at max since I overclocked my CPU (probably higher than I should). When I had the 4870 fan running at 50% it got a little obnoxious. I definitely do not think this VaporX cooler is just some gimmick, but a great step forward in performance.

Cons: None so far. I had a bit of trouble getting my computer to recognize the card at first, but then I tricked it by pretending I was going to give up and leave the 4870 in, and then it worked. You know how it goes.

3 out of 5 eggsMediocre Overclocking

Pros: Eyefinity. Excellent Vapor-X cooling. Solid but not extreme overclocking. Sapphire quality and dependability.

And of course the 5870 GPU with QDR GDDR5 is an absolute beast!!! Running at 3 times the resolution, this card gets the same or better frame rates than my old HD 4870!

Cons: I have to underclock the RAM to ~1178mhz to get this card to run stable. Apparently others have had the same issue, it seems possible with the 2GB 5870 cards of all brands.

The VRMs (voltage) cannot be programmed which will almost certainly keep you below 970mhz core.

Other Thoughts: The card is a significantly non-reference design; forget about full-cover waterblocks. With a Swiftech MCW60 block and the stock VRM sink I see 36.5c at 960mhz under load.

I am a true believer in the superior quality of Sapphire's parts, down to individual PCB components, but I will not be purchasing another Sapphire card for myself until they get programmable VRMs (or, more accurately, allow you to reprogram the ones they already have).

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate from previous review; got a bad card

Pros: Great graphics, I like the 2g size, since I am using an Antec 902, I didn't want to overload the case with an SLI/Cross-Fire config. Running Empire Total War, Napolean Campiaigns, and no problems (the larger battles on the tactical map absolutely crushed the cards in my last system).

Cons: None, other than the fat that I got a bad card and had to spend $15.88 to RMA it.

Other Thoughts: This is the 4th build I have done in the last 3 years, 99% of the components were ordered from New Egg. Every project has involved at least one RMA and in some cases two! This time it was a graphics card; before that it was an 1100w power supply and a sound card. Prior to that I had to return a processor and a MB. Is this a trend in the hardware industry?

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful & quiet

Pros: * Quiet, I don't hear it over the rest of my system, even under load.
* Excellent performance

Cons: * The jump from 1 GB VRAM to 2 GB VRAM isn't likely to affect much for single-display systems. May be more useful for Eyefinity setups.

Other Thoughts: You're paying extra for the Vapor-X cooling, but if you're ok with that, then go for it.

1 out of 5 eggsCompatibility problem

Pros: Don't know yet. Disregard the one egg rating until I know more.

Cons: Issue with intel mother board (it seems); card seems physically fine, and an alternate card worked fine with the system. Using Windows 7 64bit.

Other Thoughts: I bought all items, including this card from New Egg to do a build with an Antec 902 case, an Intel SSD, Intel MB, Corsair Dominator triple channel ram, Creative Labs SC. I don't know yet if this is a known issue involving either BIOS or drivers. Still no word from Saphire or ATI. I will update this review once the system is up and running...or not.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: - 2GB instead of 1
- Nice build with vapor-x chamber
- 1600 stream processors instead of 1440 as my last card was a Sapphire Toxic 5850 1GB
- Stays cool under full loads (between 55-58c). I've played Crysis and Crysis: Warhead for 2-3 hours and temps are still low (fan speeds set to 45%)

Cons: As the below reviewer has stated, I've had my screen lock up before (only once thus far) with the horizontal lines and I've had to do a cold shut down on my system. I haven't had the gray screen however...I'll have to try what the previous reviewer suggested and turn off Catalyst AI and lowering the memory clock speeds. In the end, a good solid card for enthusiasts who like a quiet and cool-running card.

Other Thoughts: I've always been a fan of Sapphire's cards ever since my first one of theirs (Toxic 4890) and have never had any major problems. I use to have a Toxic 5870 that had a defective fan on it...I wish Newegg would continue carrying the Toxic 5870's...Oh well.

MY SYSTEM SPECS: Cooler Master HAF 932 full tower case - ASRock P55 Extreme mobo - Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66 GHz quad-core CPU - Corsair 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 - Corsair 750W HX Professional series (modular)

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to Reviewed By: on 6/3/2010

Pros: This is an update to my previous review on 6/3/2010.
-Price has been lowered quite a bit more in line with cards other of the same caliber, though just days after I bought mine though not going to worry about it.
-Rest same as before, just a note: massive unit games like Supreme Commander (1 not 2) runs really nice able to keep up even quite late game without fow turned on. So if you play anything that uses alot of units or just in really high resolutions, 2 gig is worth taking a look.

Cons: The card I received at the very least is experiencing some of the issues others have been describing mainly grey/horizontallines screen lockups. Not sure if this actually affects all of them or just a few. There are some things that does help, for one turn off the Catalyst AI, secondly lowering the memory clock a bit does seem to reduce or eliminate this. Also Sapphire does seem to have a bios update, I haven't quite had a chance to see if this fixes anything but that's also out there. Though this really depends on one if the card's truely defective and two it's compatibility with your system as with any cards. Just a couple things to think about.
-As with before this card does keep itself cool, though you might want to watch out as the card does seem to heat up both the front 1/2 of the card and any PCI card sitting below it. Depends on your case design, you may have airflowing through there or you may not. If not you could always consider a PCI fan if you decide you need one.

Other Thoughts: As before, it's still a nice fast card with a decently low card temp. Personal issues aside, It was pretty nice playing a 3 hour game of Supreme Commander without the game slowing to a halt after an hour, as was Empire, though there's a bit more of a CPU bottlenecking involved there at times. If you do happen to have problems with the card, Newegg's RMA process is generally painless, and should you decide you'd rather wait and see if new drivers help you could try one of the above processes.

Closing thoughts: Were I to have bought this card right now and not run into the freezings it'd be 5 stars. Though if you do run into problems Newegg RMA's relatively painless. Point is if you're looking for a fast card and could use the 2gb ram, this is a decent contender. Should you run into problems Newegg in the past (my last RMA was about 8 years ago) has always been there for me and I'm assuming will still work to get you a replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsGSOD

Pros: awesome looking card.......runs good.

WHEN IT RUNS.

Cons: ATI/CLOCK SETTINGS/VIDEO BIOS/SAPPHIRE SAYING ITS A 2.0.1 BUS/VOLTAGE/MOTHERBOARD BIOS/....anything else I missed that ATI/SAPPHIRE have said causes these cards to lockup with a grey screen. I blame BP.

Other Thoughts: Google it and Read the AMD/ATI forums yourself before you make up your mind........either you get a card from a good "batch" that works......or you get one that fails.

$500 poker game......

ps.. I had the 2GB and the 1GB.....both did same thing
