Sapphire brings the power of graphics ‘supercomputing’ to enthusiasts with their 100251SR Radeon HD 4870 X2 card. With 1600 (800 x 2) Stream Processing Units, the card delivers unapproachable graphics performance for complicated 3D rendering or gaming.
The Sapphire 100251SR Radeon HD 4870 X2 card has 2GB of high-throughput GDDR5 memory, clocked at 750MHz and the GPU core is clocked at 900MHz. Supporting AMD CrossFireX technology, the high-speed connectors on each card allow two cards to be used together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compatible motherboard.
The Radeon HD 4870 X2 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced video display, and a second generation built-in UVD 2 (Unified Video decoder 2) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, reducing CPU load. Via the included DVI-to-HDMI adapter, this card supports multi-channel audio formats (up to 7.1) and combines audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection to an HDMI-ready display. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures optimal compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications, and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest games.

Amazing
- Pros: - Fast. I'm talking fast, as in, fastest card you can get your grubby paws on at this time for any amount of cash. Push high resolutions in the games you have always wanted to with AA/AF levels that we have only dreamed of until now. Crysis is more then completely playable at 1920x1440 res and an INSANE 16x AA. For the first time ever I am thinking I need more res then my 22" CRT can run. This card is amazing...
- Performance will only increase even more as drivers mature.
- Great bundle
- Attractive black PCB and heatsinks
- Works on any PCIE mobo, crossfire or not.
- Typically quicker then two seperate 4870s in traditional crossfire, and that will only increase when the XSP is enabled for increased GPU to GPU bandwidth.
- Futureproof. This thing has enough grunt to seriously extend the life of your system.
- Cons: -Hot at stock fan settings(still trying to find a way to override them). So is every other high end card though...Raising the fan speed through software or getting an aftermarket cooling solution will help a lot.

- Other Thoughts: "Crossfire" is always enabled internally on the card by default, nothing to set in control panels or fidget with. Feels like a single GPU card - no weird quirks or settings to test, just throw it in, update drivers if neccessary, and play games or bench like you never have before.
Paired with Xeon 3110@4.5ghz, 2 gigs of DDR2, on an Asus Maximus Formula X38 board using the OCZ EliteXstream PSU with the single 62amp 12v rail - plenty of juice for even two of these beasts. This thing is cpu bottlenecked by ANYTHING. The more mhz it gets the happier it is. Not a good deal for those with low clocking quads and low res monitors. If you game at anything under 1600x1200 don't waste your money.
Upgraded from two crossfire'd and overclocked BIOS modded X1900XTs...no comparison at all. 5/5, if you can afford it and they are in stock jump on one ASAP.
An Upgrade
- Pros: Worked right out of the box. I was able to overclock this card easily with a custom batch file that was created to change the voltage. Stock is (750/900), Overclock is (850/965) @ 1.3v. I had no trouble installing CCC 9.1 with this card but it did not add much performance boost. This card does run a little bit quieter than having 2x 4870 1GB's in CrossfireX. When the fan speed is set to 40%, my card runs around 40C-46C at stock.
- Cons: Requires a 6-pin and 8-pin power connector. One fan cooling 2 GPU's so the first GPU is 5C cooler than the second one.
- Other Thoughts: If you have ever seen naked pics of this card, you will notice the 2x GPU's and another chip not much smaller than the actual GPU's. This is the sideport chip. The sideport allows communication between the 2 GPU's instead of a CrossFire Bridge. The brigde allows 0.9GB/s of communication bandwidth while the sideport allows for 5GB/s. Nobody knows why this chip is still disabled. It has been disabled since launch and in my opinion, ATI is waiting for nVidia to put up a true competitor to the 4870X2. When this is done, all ATI has to do it release new drivers enabling the sideport which will increase the performance by 15%-20%.

Wonderful Graphics Card
- Pros: Wonderful graphics, running every single game in HIGH HIGH without a lag.
- Cons: heats up quick, but i knew this problem already.
- Other Thoughts: 5/5 stars, great graphics.
Does exactly what we need it to
- Pros: I work at a surveying company where we deal with harsh amount of point clouds in the hundred of billions. We also do high-res orthography up 1.5" resolution pictures. I have installed this card on three computers and none of them have had any hook-ups, and all worked better than we expected to. The only thing that you need to be aware of is that this card requires two power connectors to be connected to it, so be sure that you have a beefy power supply with lots of PCI-E power connectors.

- Other Thoughts: This this is HUGE....weighs over 5 kilos and is so long, that I bought a case specifically to handle it's length. This card will not fit in most mid-size cases that have the hard drives running in line with the case, as opposed to having them be perpendicular. Be sure you have a nice big case before purchasing this card.
Amazing
- Pros: Incredible. I couldn't be happier. The first game I installed on my new rig was Counter Strike: Source. I consistantly have 300fps (the max CS will allow you to have) with max resolution and graphics all the way up. Every game I toss at this beast chews it up and spits it out with incredible performance. I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend this card.
- Cons: It runs hot, but that's not a problem. I purchased a COOLER MASTER HAF 922 case and it keeps that baby under control. I also installed two seperate fans into the side panel just in case. In all...I'd say I have zero complaints.
