2 out of 5 eggsCheap

Pros: Worked right out of the box, correct size for a small HTPC.

Cons: Runs hot, on average the CPU running around 80 degree or higher. This causes problems when trying to watch 1080p video, you could tell the CPU would slow down in order not to "melt" and would cause frames to skip and audio to unsync. The item burnt out after about 7 months of use.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsOverheating

Pros: Very nice board for the cost and being a motherboard and CPU combo.

Cons: The heat sink is definately not capable of keeping the processor cool. I wasn't even able to get through a Windows XP install without the CPY overheating and blue screening. The heat sink was too hot to even touch.

Other Thoughts: Would probably be a great board if it had a CPU Fan on the heat sink.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable customer,

First of all, we do apologize for the inconvenience. Please make sure to install a system fan. It will overheat if your computer case does not come with one. System fan should be installed right next to the silver heatsink. See attached image.

Again, thank you for purchasing Foxconn products and taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback. Your business is appreciated.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value!

Pros: Low power, no CPU fan so low noise. Handles non HD DRM enabled streaming with no problems.

Cons: A little choppy when I turn the HD on, but really we don't notice the difference on our 32" tvs. Unless you have a 52 inch or greater you have to be standing right in front of a tv to notice the difference.

Other Thoughts: Windows XP will BSOD if you try to install it or boot with the PSS features enabled in the BIOS. Before you try to install it, disable this feature in the BIOS by hitting the delete key a bunch of times when the system initially starts up(after POST). Then navigate to Advanced>CPU Configuration and set the PSS Support option to diabled then hit F4 to save and reboot. Then XP should install with no issues.

I had actually hoped to install linux and use an XP virtual machine on this thing to do DRM enabled streaming that requires Silverlight, but that was a pipe dream, there just isn't enough power there. I'm fine with that, ill just have to run WAMP for my home server needs or a linux vm.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable customer,

Thank you for purchasing Foxconn products and taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback about the BIOS setting. Your business is appreciated.

1 out of 5 eggs60 Days

Pros: Might stop a door from closing, if the door is light and you wedge it good.

Cons: Unwilling to operate normally or reliably from the beginning, then stopped booting altogether before it was two months old.

Other Thoughts: I acquired this board through a Foxconn barebone combo, also sold at Newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsBad product

Pros: Enjoyed it for few months.

Cons: Bought the first one and it came DOA, got the second one through RMA and got it running, that was in Nov 2011. I just tried to install another OS on it and it kept crashing on me. Too late to revert to the old OS, the system is now junk because I can install any OS on it anymore. What a drag.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valuable customer,

First of all, we do apologize for the inconvenience. Please make sure to install a system fan, see attached image. It is required. Also BSOD are generally caused by drivers, software, RAM, and other hardware as well. At this point, we recommend minimizing your system configuration as much as possible and then proceeding with OS (Winxp, Vista, or Win7) installation again. If you are using external USB DVD to install, you may want to try with internal SATA DVD also. For further troubleshooting please submit this issue to our online support team. See link below.

2 out of 5 eggsBad product or bad luck

Pros: Great, fast motherboard when it works...

Cons: The board failed twice in three months... so far.

Other Thoughts: The first board failed after about 2 months. I bought this board a few days after Christmas and it failed the beginning of February. I received a RMA replacement a week or two later. Today is March 23 and the new RMA replacement that is about a month and a half old is dead. AGAIN! I am in process of contacting Foxconn AGAIN for a replacement. I am trying to get a different board or some kind of refund. (fat chance I'm sure)

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for tiny low power system

Pros: Tiny, inexpensive, passive cooler, HDMI out, faster than Atom, standard 240pin DIMMs

Cons: Cooler is barely adequate under load, more power than Atom

Other Thoughts: I've only had this about a week but I'm enjoying this. I coupled this with 8GB of Crucial DDR3 1333 RAM, a 4GB Sandisk internal USB memory card, Antec EarthWatts 380 power supply and SilverStone ML03B case. That's it! The system runs a complete installation of Gentoo Linux right from the USB stick and serves as a network utility machine (NTP, DHCP, DNS).

Take a look at the case and you'll see that it has a LOT of ventilation around the CPU area. That's why I selected the case with this board. The power supply fan is the only moving part and doesn't appear to assist in APU cooling. Idle, the temperatures are about 60 degrees Celsius. Under CPU load it can push just over 80 degrees. The cooling is barely up to the task. Do NOT put this in a more enclosed case without ensuring you have air movement THROUGH the case.

Remarkably cool, quiet, powerful and inexpensive setup. If you want to use it for something more powerful step up to a 2.5" SSD!

2 out of 5 eggs2 Died in one month

Pros: Great Motherboard wile it worked. Foxconn RMA dept was easy to talk with and get an RMA.

Cons: One day just would not turn on. Pulled power supply tested fine. Then tested board outside case still not turn on.

Other Thoughts: I had them in large cases with both the powers supply fan and the case fan blowing on the heat sink. Temps where not high. Hope the replacements will work without a hitch.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy unless you are a PC scientist.

Pros: No specific pros. Average board as many others.

Cons: Fanless design make this board usable only to PC scientists who can quickly find the blue screens and freezing are caused by overheating chips exceeding temperatures of 85 degees Celsius. Mini ITX cases usually do not have enough space near the motherboard radiator for a large fan to fit, therefore rendering this board extremely annoying and essentially useless.

Other Thoughts: If you really need to buy this particular board for any reason, then make sure the PC case has great air circulation. Otherwise buy anything else based on same E-350 APU that has a small cooler attached to it.

Manufacturer Response:
