3 out of 5 eggsPossible reliability issues

Pros: Easy to setup
Lots of available slots and good spacing

Cons: Onboard sound has died entirely after about a year of use

Other Thoughts: Take it for what it's worth but the onboard sound has stopped functioning entirely after just over a year of use. WIndows still recognizes when devices are connected but no sound is produced by any of the back or front ports. External soundcards function normally so it appears to be a hardware issue with the motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ryan,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please try below for whether sound issue is resolved.
• Turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
• Load the BIOS setting default
• Download and install the audio driver at link: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Pro4/?cat=Download

3 out of 5 eggsRunning OK but has a loose motherboard heat sink! Grrrrrr....

Pros: There are Pros, but I can't think about them right now...too aggravated about the negative.

Cons: The pretty blue heat sink that says ASRock is rattling, which means that it's loose, which means that it's not making solid contact with the chip it's supposed to be cooling, which means it's not doing anything except looking pretty and making an irritating noise. This does not instill much confidence...not happy.

Other Thoughts: I'm building this computer for a friend. I know I can RMA the board but now the timetable is set back. Now I have to take the board out, ship it, wait, rebuild, and pray new one isn't as bad or worse! Grrrrrrrrr! SERIOUSLY? If ASRock has problems with something as simple as a heat sink,, what other problems are lurking here? Some say AsRock makes quality, others say ASRock has poor quality control. Which way do you think I'm leaning?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Tai,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please check if the screws are tighten with the heatsink at the reverse of the board.
There has thermal pad between chipset and heatsink to get better contact and heat spread.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board!

Pros: - Stable.
- Works Well With DDR3 2400mhz Ram.
- Enough Ports.

Cons: - None Yet.

Other Thoughts: - Wished the m2 slot had more bandwidth, but i think is a limitation of the amount of pcie lanes available on the chipset to the cpu, since i will be upgrading to a m2 or nvme drive to take advantage of it soon.

5 out of 5 eggsdecent but not spectacular

Pros: This is a no frills board with a great bios and easy setup with nice options for the price.overclocks decent.

Cons: The sound is not good at all...very low and cheap..The board is undersized by a hair on the width side.If you have a big case then you'll notice.

Other Thoughts: Do not get this if you love good sound like I do..I ended up getting a Z87 extreme 4 with purity sound and headphone boost with my 4690k and what a difference.

4 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard

Pros: Good motherboard, design is good and performance is better than expected.

Cons: You need some technical skills, it's more of a DIY motherboard, I ran into a few problems but managed to fix them myself.

Other Thoughts: Good motherboard, I tried installing it over an existing Windows 10 but it kept crashing so I just performed a clean install of Windows 7 and reinstallation which took some time but eventually all worked well.

The only concern I had was that after plugging in the power supply and attempting to boot up the PC, it starts the computer and turns it off immediately for a second then starts it up again and continues the boot up process (only happens when PSU is turned off and back on). I heard that it is doing so to check for faulty PSU but I'm not sure if that is the case, perhaps someone else can confirm that for me.

5 out of 5 eggsall z97 mobos

Pros: solid stable to anser the question the cpu socket heat sink mounts are just holles standard heatsink has push pins if your getting a after market one some of those require extra hardware that the mobo needs to be out of the case for

Cons: haven't found any

2 out of 5 eggsCheap, but has issues

Pros: - Fairly cheap
- Has space for a fairly good amount of hardware
- Fits well into the case

Cons: - Has problem booting; requires several minutes after turning on power supply, or else it cycles on and off. Originally thought it was the CMOS battery. It wasn't. This also appears to be a pretty common issue.

- Still boots fairly inconsistently, sometimes locks up at ASRock logo.

- Driver CD contains mostly bloatware and adware. Wouldn't be surprised if there was some malware in that.

- Drivers are incompatible with Windows Vista. At no point is this mentioned on the product page, packaging, or documentation.

- OS has become incredibly unstable, crashes randomly, some drivers or services occasionally fail to start.

Other Thoughts: Currently waiting on an install disc for Windows 7. Hopefully this will fix several issues with stability and driver compatibility.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Richard,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Unfortunately, mainboard does not support Windows Vista.

5 out of 5 eggsmissing parts?

Pros: awesome price for what you get .... have not go it up in running yet but for a another reason which will be in the cons

Cons: it has been awhile about 6 years sense i built a new PC. i think i might be missing a part? i think im missung the metal bracket that goes under the cpu for the heat sink to screw into ? not really sure on this one ....or is that something that comes with a new heatsink?

Other Thoughts: can anyone verify this for me ?

1 out of 5 eggsBuggy USB3.0 drivers

Pros: Overall a good mobo.

Cons: After installing USB3.0 drivers system stops recognizing usb mouse (Microsoft) and keyboard (Logitech K120). Tried drivers CD supplied with the motherboard, also downloaded latest USB3.0 drivers from ASRock website - same results... It just locks them out until you connect PS2 mouse and with on-screen keyboard uninstall usb3.0 drivers. Then everything fine but you end up having unrecognized device in Device Manager. Really weird issue.

Other Thoughts: ASRock's quality is slowly but surely goes south... It is a second motherboard I have problems with and support was very unhelpful

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please download and install INF and USB 3.0 drivers at link below.
