4 out of 5 eggsBeware of the Memory type you have !

Pros: Works as expected, when you have the correct type of memory for your processor...

Cons: Although they say on their website that this motherboard will accept DDR3 memory with a AM3 CPU, that is not the case with my CPU at least...

-I installed my Athlon II X4 960 with my DDR3 memory
(that worked great on my old motherboard before it went bad on me)
and didn't have any display on my monitor.

-Tried several other CPUs i had, from an AM2 to an AM2+ to the current AM3 ; nothing worked.

-Tried with DDR2 just for kicks and it worked !
-So now i gotta go buy some older DDR2 to make this motherboard work with my AM3 CPU.

-VERY FRUSTRATING, i wish Asrock would have done their homework better, because on their website they clearly state this :

-"**DDR3 memory is only supported by installing AM3/AM3+ CPU."

Well apparently this is not the case with the X4 960, it's a AM3 CPU that will NOT work with DDR3 on this motherboard, period.

Other Thoughts: Giving 4/5 stars either way because once you know this, it works great, but i would have prefered to know that BEFORE buying it...

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Board

Pros: Easy Installation of Hardware. Impressed with stability of this MB. I tested and ran it non stop and even after 1 week on out of the box no glitches. Great for older hardware I put the bone yard parts to work again.

Cons: Could have a better onboard video great for just the basics.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this board to a friend

5 out of 5 eggsWorked Great

Pros: Easy to install. Every thing worked as expected. Didn't use the on board video because it's not really that great but for most games it would be ok.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: A lightening strike on my building killed my computer. Came in through the internet cable and killed my modem and router too. So I will be ordering the same mobo again.

3 out of 5 eggsIt does well enough

Pros: Hasn't had any issues seen in comments. It took my old processor and memory.

Cons: On-board video could have been just a little better.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because of the A3+ option but I over looked its non A series usability. So the A10 black series chip I had would not work. Lucky I had a old semperon laying around. Still not completely happy as it runs poorly with out a video card, just on board. Its not the company or neweggs fault I didn't notice the processor specs fully.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate- Upgraded CPU

Pros: I found a sweet deal on a phenom II and some DDR3 on craigslist for $60, so I installed them and this motherboard booted up the first time without a hitch. So we went from an AM2 dual core with DDR2 to an AM3 Triple core and DDR3 in 5 minutes using the same board. Works great!

Cons: Not really a con but windows 7 had to be re-validated after switching CPU's. I guess windows detects the motherboard differently if you're using an AM2 CPU than if you're using an AM3. Also the motherboard was unable to unlock the 4th core (its a x3 720 BE), but overclocking was very easy. Also i had the stock cooler leftover from my FX8350 (copper pipes), and that does a beautiful job keeping the x3 720 frosty even OC'd to 3.4ghz

Other Thoughts: Still an awesome motherboard, with his new 7850 gpu, he should be playing just about every game for a few more years. solid investment.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for a replacement

Pros: Versatility
The only new motherboard available on newegg.ca that still accepts AM2 processors

Cons: Not really a con but lack of DVI plug and no USB3

Other Thoughts: I bought this motherboard to replace an old one that failed me on a HP computer. I choose this one because i had an AM2 processor, DDR2 ram and i didn't feel like buying a new pc.
So far this motherboards is working good.

1 out of 5 eggsfollow up to manufactor comment

Pros: this is a follow up

Cons: see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: The clip has a reverse angle on the bottom making it impossible to clip on the edge. The broken clip sheared flush with the body of the clip. I tried to include a jpg of the clips but this site only allows video uploads. I have built almost 100 computers and know how to attach a cpu cooler

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: works fine

Cons: After 6 months of operation the Bakelite clip for the cpu cooler broke off and my cpu was cooked. Called service and they said it was my fault. The clip is cheap and small and bakelite is prone to stress failure like the constant pull of a cooler spring.

Other Thoughts: Will not get my business again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The CPU fan retention bracket meets or exceeds industry standards.
It potentially the heatsink clip was not fully installed all the way.
However, we glad to replace the mainboard if its faulty.
