5 out of 5 eggsCPU socket issue *UPDATE*

Pros: Good board (see other thoughts)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I received the replacement AMD x4 760k CPU yesterday. Wouldn't you know, it "dropped" in perfectly. So its not a board issue. Apparently I got a damaged CPU the first time. Never had that happen in 15yrs.. I guess I was overdue or something.

4 out of 5 eggsCPU socket issue

Pros: Great looking board
Small 9.6x9.6
Pretty nice BIOS
Priced well

Cons: CPU socket problems cost me a brand new AMD x4 760k processor. The socket doesn't appear to be "right". See other thoughts

Other Thoughts: I have built at least 30 PC's. I have never had a CPU not drop right into a socket. I had to fiddle with this one. I could get 3 of 4 sides in but it was cocked a bit. I looked at the bottom of the CPU and the pins appeared to be in order. I tried again and the cpu seated. But it just didn't feel right. I got the computer up and running but it would only run in single channel and only 4GB out of 8 was recognized. I pulled the CPU out and sure enough, 1 pin was bent completely sideways. I tried to fix it, and of course it broke. $90 paper weight now. I am waiting on a replacement to see if it drops right in or not. If it doesn't go right in, I will RMA this board and ask ASRock to refund my CPU purchase as well. Fair is fair, if you ask me.

2 out of 5 eggsAMDTESTDRIVER

Pros: #AMDtestdrive I got this board as part of the AMD test driver program.

Cons: NOT AMD's FAULT. Higher than normal temperatures. System became unstable. Board is surely to blame APU temps show fine on other boards. AMD is sending me an ASRock FM2A85X Extreme6 to replace this board. Will review new board after testing.

Other Thoughts: I am sponsored by AMD.

5 out of 5 eggsNo issues for me (Ubuntu 13.04)

Pros: Works great for my Ubuntu 13.04 HTPC build. A lot of fan headers for a mATX board. Good amount of SATA ports for a NAS box. The heat sinks on the chip sets seemed very sturdy (I've often had issues in the past with them being loose). It lined up perfectly with the case screw holes and I/O panel.

Cons: Front panel headers were difficult to read, but that's always the biggest pain of any build, so no loss of an egg there. The socket didn't have an protective covering on it, which I thought was odd...no big deal though.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this for a Linux build. I'm sure it does just great with Windows too.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Finds and implements XMP 1.2 and 1.3 with no problems. Booted just fine from a USB stick to install Ubuntu Server.

Cons: Doesn't glow blue. Other than that, none so far.

Other Thoughts: I'm wondering how it would be for a media center? I could just entire in via SSH [sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop] to find out. I'm not saying the A10-5800K has the greatest graphics in the world, but for something to play movies on? I'm wondering if it would be woth it. It bothers me deep down that I have a graphics device going to waste.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very happy with this board. Easy to set up and use. Good proprietary software.

Cons: None thus far.

Other Thoughts: Used this in my first build, an HTPC. Very easy to set up and tweak. Added software has actually been useful. No complaints!!

5 out of 5 eggsNice features

Pros: Neatly laid out and with vertical SATA. BIOS enables custom CPU fan speed setting (I set mine to 50 in the custom box and get around 950 RPM. I like than in S3 with Win 7 that it blinks. I then know my PC is sleeping.

Cons: Their download site is TERRIBLY slow. Quite frustrating getting the large graphics package. They really need to fix this. Could use one more system fan post. The 4-pin system fan does not have a BIOS setting to custom set speed other than the 1-9 scale. Wish they had it like the CPU speed option.

Other Thoughts: Great product at great price and their tech support phone quicly puts you in touch. I was glad for this because I could not get AMND graphics to install. Turns out with the new Richland APU, you must use the drivers from the Asrock download site. I've always just went to AMD and downloaded current drivers there because it's faster.
