1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: It installed OK and booted up on the first try and ran OK for 35 days it ran.

Cons: The 1 Egg is for how many months it lasted, well actually it lasted 35 days before going into a boot looping cycle of the fans coming on for a second or two then shutting down.

Now being philosophic about this I realize that upon occasion one does end up with a piece of electronic goods that does fail, and hence that is what RMA processes are for.

Well first fun news on the RMA procedure was that the company does not do an Advance Exchange.

Second fun news was the replacement board was DOA, nor did I even receive a shipping notice that a replacement board was on the way.

Other Thoughts: The rest of the components of the build were based on a Tom's Hardware config., so presume they all do place nice together.

I've also tried a second power supply with the same No Go results.

Now I wonder if it is even worth going through the RMA process again, and spending another $10 to send the DOA one back and hope things go better next time or just take my losses and move onto some other board.

Highly suspect this will be my last ever ASRock purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsGood so far

Pros: Installed i3-3240 and it booted up with no issues.

This boots very quickly if you enable fast boot.

Being able to do bios updates inside BIOS just by connecting ethernet is pretty cool.

Cons: Just for anyone looking, this board does not support overclocking, unless you have a K-series processor. You cannot modify the baseclock. It's a chipset thing, though, not ASRock's fault.

Other Thoughts: Pretty good budget build! Built as a HTPC

Would definitely buy again.

4 out of 5 eggsSecond impression

Pros: I love the value of this board. Not perfect, but for the cost I am very happy with it.

Cons: Received a DOA board last time I ordered, this time the motherboard is solid though. That said I am concerned about long term stability and quality. Will update if it proves faulty.

Other Thoughts: This is my second build with this board, but the first build had a DOA Motherboard and I had to replace with a different brand because of time constraints. That experiences left me timid but I decided to give this board another try and am overall happy with the performance.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked temporarily

Pros: Pretty easy to work with.
Like the single latch design for the memory
Bios was nice
USB3

Cons: Upon building my machine, it lasted about a week. I was using this as my HTPC with a Ceton card. Contrary to what a previous commenter said, it worked fine with my Ceton x1 card (not a video card) just fine

One night after trying to configure WoL, the product no longer powered a display. I figured i'd shut it off and try it in the morning. No go. Tried removing all my components and resetting the CMOS, and nothing. No beeps, no display, nada.

Tried to RMA it, but NewEgg wouldn't give me a full refund due to bent pins. I don't understand how it would work for almost a week, then all of a sudden not work. Very frustrating. I've dealt with motherboards and processors several times and was hoping for a better resolution.

Other Thoughts: Tried using Shoprunner in conjunction with the NewEgg app (to get the 15 dollar promo code) to no avail. While NE was helpful in refunding me the shipping that I incurred through the app, I wish I had gone through shoprunner

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Sorry to hear mainboard has malfunctioned within a week.
For the bent pins issue, the CPU socket on the mainboard has been covered with the protection CAP to avoid damage the pins during the shipping and should not be removed unless intend to install a CPU.
In addition, the CPU socket pins on the mainboard are fragile and need to handle with carefully to avoid physical damage and may affect the warranty.
If you have any technical issues or warranty questions please contact our Tech Support at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good, but not Great

Pros: I used this mobo in my newest build with an i5-3330 and a GTX 770.

Thoughts:

- It's a great looking board. The color scheme is fantastic.

- At $90, it was the best value.

- BIOS is very user friendly. Enables mouse support which is nice.

- Fast POST times.

- ASRock quality.

- Two 4-Pin fan headers that can be temp controlled via the BIOS (including a 3-Pin fan on the 4-Pin CHA_FAN header). I am running one TY-143 exhaust fan mounted to an H60 radiator. The pump and fan are undervolted until the PC hits 60*. The highest temp I've seen is 52* while gaming. This has resulted in an inaudible PC.

Cons: All together, none of these are major deal breakers. But in summary, I've added them up to remove an egg.

- The only way to disable the blinking LED in sleep mode is to turn them completely off in the BIOS. As it stands, there is no way to only disable them while sleeping.

- The RAM slot design uses a clamp on one side only.

- CPU is located close to the PCI-E and RAM. I'm using an H60, but any larger, tower cooler most likely will not fit if you intend to use heatsinked RAM and/or a GFX card.

- The rotation of the SATA connectors on the board will require all 180* SATA cables if you plan on using more than 2 slots.

Other Thoughts: All in all, it's a nice board for the money. The annoyances, while minor, can all be overcome for the most part except for the Nighttime LED function - a known issue.

I would buy it again. It's definitely the best value in an ITX board.

2 out of 5 eggsDecent Board, Lack of PCI Support

Pros: It's a well put together board and the BIOS is pretty useful and easy to use. I don't experience very fast startup times but I don't really expect to with my specs. Good port selection in the back of the case.

Cons: Purchased a Ceton InfiniTV 4 to use as a HTCP - after a few weeks of trying to determine why it wasn't detected, I was informed by ASRock support that the PCI slot "isn't intended for anything other than a video card." I don't see this posted anywhere on the manufacturers website that this is the case, but my $200 card (and the reason I was building this PC in the first place) is essentially useless now because the motherboard doesn't support PCI 1x cards in the PCI slot (which it should). ASRock support hasn't helped at all, and they've tried to show me where they made this clear on their website, but I'm fairly certain it isn't stated anywhere.

Other Thoughts: My build:

Intel G680 2.2 GHz
Corsair 8GB Ballistix
WD Green 2 TB
LG BD-ROM
InWin USB 3.0 Case

I've been trying to determine if I need to upgrade to i5/i7 for PCI support to work with 1x but I haven't gotten a clear answer. If anyone has experience with this, please let me know!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please visit below link for mainboard's manual link under page 21 which states "PCIE slots: PCIE1 (PCIE 3.0 x16 slot) is used for PCI Express x16 lane width graphics cards".

1 out of 5 eggsDOA, no company customer service

Pros: Nice concept, if the board was functional I'm sure I would have liked it.

Cons: Arrived DOA, took a while to troubleshoot as their website is a joke. Has no customer support besides stating "please contact your dealer." Finally figured out this board was the problem by replacing it with a locally purchased, different branded board.

Other Thoughts: Thankfully NewEgg makes all of this fairly painless. NewEgg's customer service was great. Reminds me of why I choose to shop through them as opposed to buying locally.

5 out of 5 eggsASRock is King for Core i

Pros: After features, there are only 3 things I care about when it comes to motherboards. In order:

1.) Reliability - I use nothing but ASRock for all my Core i builds. While time will tell for their long-term reliability, I have high hopes. They seem well-engineered and stable, and use quality components. I could care less how fast a board is if it doesn't perform flawlessly 100% of the time. Luckily, this board is also fast.

2.) POST Times - This is one thing missing from most Professional motherboard reviews. I don't want to build a fast system if it takes 30s - 1 min or longer to pass POST. Who cares if you can boot into Windows in 4s when your POST time is 10 times as long. ASRock really seems to understand this, and they have the quickest POST times of any manufacturer I've seen. They really should advertise this front and center.

3.) Cost. ASRock's motherboards tend to be quite reasonable priced. I love that I don't have to sacrifice my number 1 + 2 criteria for outrageously priced boards. They allow me to build systems with their boards and most all price points!

Cons: Not a huge fan of their memory slot design.

Other Thoughts: Could have used another USB 2.0 port or two built in with the rest of the IO ports - On an ITX build I don't necessarily have the space to run one from the board to a bracket on the back of the case.

1 out of 5 eggsGot a dud

Pros: It shipped in the time that it said it would. Package included everything it indicated. Newegg took the dud MOBO back and refunded my money

Cons: I got a dud MOBO-was dead out of the box. Very unfortunate.

Other Thoughts: I can't really give it a grand review as I received a dud one. Also-make sure you realize this is a compact or "MINI" mobo

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the future reference, pre-trouble shooting can be done by below steps with known good components;
Turn the power off.
Remove the mainboard from inside computer to outside, place the mainboard on top of the empty mainboard’s box
Clear the CMOS
Check the mainboard’s CPU socket pins should not be bent
Reseat the CPU with heatsink fan as well if socket pins are normal
Test with single memory module (non-ECC, un-buffered).
Using onboard Video (CPU with iGPU supported or test with VGA card)
Plug the 24 pins + 4 pins ATX power to the mainboard
Plug the computer case’s power switch to mainboard's front panel power header and try again
