3 out of 5 eggsSolid, but poor USB 3.0

Pros: It's a rock solid board other than the con I'll list below. Have never had a hiccup except for the USB drivers. Not sure if it's the board or a Windows 7 problem, but an internet search leads me to believe it's a board/drivers issue. If not for this (one of the reasons I upgraded my board) I would give the board 5 stars. Easy to setup, solid in operation.

Cons: USB 3.0 worked initially, then stopped working. I've reinstalled the drivers, tried different drivers, updated firmware, tweaked the bios, cruised the internet for answers and still can't get the onboard USB 3.0 working. It appears to be a common problem with this board. As I said, it worked at first. My next step is to format the boot drive and start over, because it very well could be a Windows 7 problem.

Other Thoughts: I certainly wouldn't throw ASROCK under the bus for this, but it's frustrating. I have never contacted ASROCK, and that probably should have been one of my first steps.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize that you having difficulty with USB 3.0.
For the issue, please load the BIOS default.
Plug the keyboard and mouse to USB 3.0 ports.
Enter UEFI/BIOS to verify the ports are working.
Download and install both Intel and ASMedia USB 3.0 drives at link below if all USB 3.0 ports are working under BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: So far everything works as advertised. A good price for a good product. That is all you can ask for in a motherboard.

G.U.I. B.I.O.S. is nice.

Fast boot times.

Easy overclocking.

Cons: No extra hardware. Screws etc. Not a big deal though.

Other Thoughts: This board looks good and performs well. I used G.SKILL Ripjaws Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM, i-5 3570K processor, EVGA 590 Classified and SeaSonic SS-750KM3 750W.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Decent features for a good price.

Cons: Died after only a year and a half.

Other Thoughts: The socket won't read any CPU, so the system shuts off after showing "55" on the Dr. Debug. This all seems to have started out of nowhere. Hopefully it's fixable under warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

Sorry to hear that the mainboard has malfunctioned after 1 1/2 years.
Please trouble shoot the board whether the issue is resolved.
Turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Reseat the CPU and cooler.
Test with single memory module on each slot.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Good OC ability
- External USB 3.0 is nice
- Debug codes on board

Cons: - DCP Latency spikes
- Driver disk full of bloat

Other Thoughts: Replaced an asrock z68 with this only to get high DCP latency spikes. After spending several days disabling and enabling various components, features, BIOS settings and upgrading drivers, I was unable to reduce the spikes. This causes many audio drop outs and stuttering, which is a major problem for any one who works with audio equipment. For that reason, this motherboard becomes almost entirely useless to me, hence the 1/5 rating.

2 out of 5 eggsBuyer be warned...

Pros: It does what's needed to be done....after struggling to get it to work right. More on this below.

Cons: Boy do I have things to talk about. First off if you're interested in getting this board you're better off getting an asus board or something that's not asrock because troubleshooting this board was starting to give me headaches. I booted for the first time and bam bsod right off the bat at the windows loading screen...I restarted several times and tried to isolate the issue since I had new memory and a new cpu installed as well. Finally gave up and decided to search the internet on my laptop and found that this mobo, by default, will have the sata mode set to AHCI instead of IDE, which was why I got those bsod and couldn't load windows. The second scare came as I finally finished installing the drivers loaded onto the cd that came with the mobo (after an hour) and when I restarted the computer and not only could i not load windows I was caught in a loop that brought me to this Nero Boot-Loader thing that was asking if I wanted to do something to my hard disk drive that would delete all the data on it. Thankfully the solution to this was simple: simply remove the cd from the cd drive and that endless nightmare went away.

Other Thoughts: Honestly if it weren't for those two things mentioned above I would've given this more eggs but at least newegg was fast to deliver.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the SATA mode, most of current mainboards are set SATA mode as AHCI by default, due to IDE mode is not widely used on nowadays PC.
However, there's recommend to install fresh Windows (backup the data first), if the hardware configuration has changed (especially mainboard).
For the boot issue, please set boot option #1 to Windows drive.
Eject the mainboard’s driver CD (bootable CD disc) to avoid boot from the disc (if boot option has set to ODD).
