5 out of 5 eggsStill running strong

Pros: Multi-Architecture Compatible, solid build, for my "mobile" carry RIG.

Cons: Wish I'd known about this earlier. Not the greatest space for coolant setups.

Other Thoughts: If compability, and dependability continue to be the theme, this will continue to be a good product.

4 out of 5 eggsGenerally good, issues with BIOS

Pros: All the bells and whistles you could want

Cons: RAM slots very close to CPU - reduces selection of aftermarket coolers you can use
BIOS can behave strangely

Other Thoughts: This board seems to be pretty hit-or-miss in terms of reliability. I seem to have gotten lucky with a board that has gone nearly 4 years without any problems - almost - I did have a major problem with it where it would hang and fail to post once, and only once, a day. After power cycling the computer it would behave as normal for another ~24 hours. Wasn't able to find anybody with a similar problem and wasn't able to fix it myself despite updating the firmware, clearing the CMOS, etc. Just when I ran out of things to try the problem completely disappeared on its own and the board has been behaving 100% since, making this the only self-repairing mobo I've ever owned.

1 out of 5 eggsEh..

Pros: lots of fun features/software. a sturdy board.

Cons: ports end up dying. power consumption seems wasteful.

Other Thoughts: this was the 2nd ASRock board i purchased. the first was their B-model which ended up doing exactly what this model did. i purchased both for the LGA 1155 slot, and although the Z77 has had great reviews in the past, there seem to be a stream of bad reviews coming in.

major problem with ASRock that i've dealt with are their ports working for a few weeks and then not work. to the manufacturer who responds to this review: Yes, I did troubleshoot all the ports/slots. and Yes, I did reset the CMOS/BIOS in an attempt to start from scrap. That is a day of my life i will not get back.

The only plus side to the mobo's failing is the added learning....

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It didnt catch on fire and melt my face or start eating babies.

Cons: Everything else.
Okay thats a little vague but its seriously too much to list.

Other Thoughts: I was running this board with windows 7 64 bit and it gave me nothing but trouble. I got all these random weird errors. BSOD, random programs crashing, and i think the weirdest one is the inability to right click on programs in the system tray.I would get a message one time that said a file was corrupt then a second later it was fine and would run. I clicked on one of my other hard drives and it was like it was accessing the dvd writer lol. Just really odd and crazy errors. Then i have an external USB hard drive for storage and it would randomly quit working and everytime i wanted to access it i had to unplug it and plug it in a few times to get it to work, also it had to be a 2.0 slot or it would quit working even faster. Thing is i know all the other hardware and peripherals are good and worked fine before i got this board. Now nothing seems to work. Im RMAing the board and asking for a refund. Maybe i was just unlucky and got a bad board but whatever the case im going back to MSI and Gigabyte, ive never in 20 years of building comps had issues like this so this turned me off from ASRock for the foreseeable future. I probably wouldnt even use one of their boards if it was given to me.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful Board

Pros: Features . & Cost

Cons: MB with bad USB Ports. Cannot touch my wireless USB KB or every game I play crashes. The WIreless mouse is OK though.. Absolute piece of garbage that this shipped out.

Other Thoughts: ASrock . QA your garbage. New Egg you should by now have had enough bad reports on these boards to pull the line from your site.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
USB ports on mainboard meet or exceed industry standards.
For the issues, please test with another known good USB keyboard (wired or wireless) to check if the symptom still occurs.

1 out of 5 eggsToo many problems

Pros: None that I can really think of

Cons: two USB 3.0 ports not working, constantly gives error 55 and won't boot

Other Thoughts: I've had this motherboard for almost two years and from the start it's been giving me problems. Two of the USB 3.0 ports were not functioning from the start, and then I started to get the error code 55, and the computer would not boot. I first replaced the power supply, thinking that could be the boot issue, but the problem persisted. After hours of frustration, and lots of research I finally discovered that error 55 was a memory error. I am certain that my ram sticks are good, and I've checked the CPU socket pins to make sure they are not bent or damaged. I can only conclude that there is a problem with the motherboard itself. I only wish that I'd have taken the time to figure this problem out sooner.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the USB 3.0, please download and install the both Intel and ASMedia USB 3.0 driver at link below.
Link: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77%20Extreme4/?cat=Download

For the code 55, its related to memory.
Please reseat the CPU and cooler.
Test with single memory module, switching another memory module on other slots.

4 out of 5 eggsNow this board is better than the first one

Pros: This board worked right out of the box. At least this one does not reboot time after time like the first one I ordered. So yay me! I was able to keep my ivy bridge h2 chip, and did not have to spend another 300 bucks.

Cons: This board is picky about what memory it uses. I had some old 1333 corsair memory part number cm3x2h1333c9b4 that I used in other computers over the years, it is good memory but this board hated it. I replaced the memory with some kingston that was listed and that fixed the memory errors I was getting. It was just memory that was not compatible with the board. It loves the kingston memory khx26c11t2k2/8x. On a side note maybe the old memory was getting too hot.

Other Thoughts: The first one of these I got rebooted every few minutes, the usb 3.0 did not work. Make sure you have memory that is listed, some of the older memory will not work even when it is good. I went from 4 2 gig to 2 4 gig and that fixed the memory issue that windows was tossing. Also make sure you download the newest drivers from ASROCK website, for some reason the drivers on the disk were old.

1 out of 5 eggsreboots constantly when playing games

Pros: works good when not under load, was easy to install.

Cons: Well I put a gtx 960 in it, and went to play games like eq2, wow and so forth, it would reboot a lot. So if you like reading the web fine, but this mother board for playing games was just bad.

Other Thoughts: So I took out the 960, and tried using on board graphics. Running web pages fine, playing games boom. Reboot. So I changed power supply to a corsair 750. Changed memory. The only thing I did not change was the cpu.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
For the issue, please load the BIOS default.
Check the CPU is not overheating.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard, first one arrived DOA though.

Pros: Upgraded to this motherboard when my older ASRock Z68 kicked the can. Once I got a working board, the installation and bootup went perfect. Overclocking my Intel i5 2500k was super simple.

Cons: First board was DOA and that was a bummer, especially since my older ASRock board crapped out on me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. All mainboards are fully tested to assure the quality. Unfortunately, due to nature of electronic product, it can happen.
Glad to hear replacement mainboard is up and running.
