1 out of 5 eggsBe ready for a fight if you get a motherboard with any bent pins.

Pros: Generally high quality

Cons: I received this motherboard with one bent CPU pin. Not something I could have done myself without damaging other pins around it(. I requested an RMA and was told I'd receive an email with instructions, which I never got. After calling back and finally getting the email, I got the instructions which indicated there would be a charge of $50 for any returns with bent pins. I've been very pleased in the past with AS-Rock, but this return policy is ridiculous. They should be paying for their errors. By the way, I have to pay return shipping on this.

Other Thoughts: I won't be buying any more AS-Rock products. I've only used their MB's for the last five personal systems that I've built. I'll start buying Asus instead.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

2 out of 5 eggsUSB Ports Issue

Pros: Nice board

Cons: USB ports would not recognize keyboards upon POST most of the time. This made it very difficult to change settings.

Front USB ports died after a few days

Other Thoughts: Returning motherboard and ordering a replacement.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please clear the CMOS.
Plug keyboard and mouse to USB 2.0 ports (gray) to test.

Please update the replacement mainboard's working fine.

5 out of 5 eggsPersistence is key

Pros: - Full size board
- Dr. Debug
- Plenty of USB ports
- Internal power and reset button
- Great BIOS gui
- Sata connections in excellent location
-Excellent Newegg Customer Service

Cons: - A bit flimsy (bends really easy)
- Questionable product quality control

Other Thoughts: It took some effort to get a fully working board however worth the effort. I went through 3 DOA boards until I got a working one. The first 3 kept getting code 55 in Dr. Debug. I tried everything under the sun (minus toying with the CPU socket) to get them to work and then RMA'd them. I don't condone doing what I am about to mention but feel its a good troubleshooting tip if one is comfortable with inspecting (I've been working computers for 16 years). The first 3 boards, I did not even bother to inspect the CPU socket pins because, to be quite honest, I shouldn't have to at all. The 4th board I decided "eh, I will just look" and I got out my trusty magnifying lens and inspected the pins on the CPU socket. Lo and behold, one bent pin. Fast forward to today, its up and working for one week, all USB ports, 32GB of ram etc. (previously only 1 USB port worked and DIMM slots 1 and 2). I got lucky, finding the bent pin.

Just to note: After resolving the code 55 I had a code 62 pop up which I had to remedy by using the onboard video and shutting down properly. Once I did that, I plugged my PCI-E card back in and everything was fine.

I understand that things happen such as defective products and its important to be understanding and patient. I did not deduct any eggs for the defective boards (thanks to Newegg support for being so helpful). If you are like me and are desperate for a full ATX LGA 1155 board (this one is pretty much the only one in town) then just roll with the punches...it'll work out.

- I had 2 processors, 32 GB of RAM (8GB x 4) to test to rule out any issues on my end (memory controller, bad ram, etc.).

3 out of 5 eggsGood until it Died

Pros: Lasted 2 1/2 years with no issues

Cons: Only Lasted 2 1/2 years

Other Thoughts: Had 0 issues with this then I had no signal from gfx card. Tried the other PCI Express 3.0 X16 slot and sill nothing. Tried an old Gfx card. Still nothing. Would not even see motherboard boot logo. No signal at all.
Swapped to the on board gfx and bam signal was there.....
Spent alot of time troubleshooting this and it was and still is very frustrating. Guess I have to RMA so I can play SC2...

1 out of 5 eggsBIOS corrupted after 1 week of usage!

Pros: looks nice, works well when it does, stable

Cons: my computer starts experiencing issues where it doesn't shut down properly and the system will sitll be on unless i unplug the power connector. Also when I tried to boot the computer on, the system will turn on but it will not post. Yesterday I decided to reset my cmos and some of the settings on my bios have disappeared. I can't overclock anymore and the option to overclock has suddenly disappeared. my ram downclocked to 1333mhz because xmp has suddenly disappeared from the bios option. (usually runs at the advertised 1866mhz). Even worse, 2 dimm slots have malfunction. Only 2 out of my 4 rams are recognized, so effectively, I'm running half of the ram (8 vs 16gb)

Other Thoughts: I don't know what to do, This is the first time I buy anything and it broke in just 1 week. I didn't even touch the bios update whatsoever, it just broke by itself...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Clearing CMOS will all seeting reset to factory default.
However, memory speed setting should be under OC Tweaker, DRAM Timing Configuration, DRAM Frequency.
Or Can be Load XMP Profile Setting at DRAM Configuration.

For the memory slot related issue, please reseat the CPU and cooler.
Test with single memory on each slot to verify all slots are working.
Populate the memory module one by one if all slots are working.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than I thought

Pros: Not DOA. After reading all the reviews I was scared this board was not going to start up. But, she plopped right in my case with ease, and started up the first time. I was wearing an anti-static wrist band when installing, so I wonder if the static killed it for the other people

Cons: I've had the board for just over 3 months, no issues so far. But with a 3 year warranty, I'm not too concerned.

Other Thoughts: I was wearing an anti-static wrist band when installing (actually I taught my 11 year old brother how to install it, so he did it when I supervised), so I wonder if the static killed it for the other people.

1 out of 5 eggsSubpar

Pros: Lots of features. cool looks

Cons: The card no longer detects my video cards. I used this card for about 6 months. Now it just will not recognize video cards at all. I know my cards are fine as they work in other machines just fine.
I have tried every workaround and tested every component and sure enough it appears to be motherboard failure. None of the PCI ports read any hardware. It was a great board but 6 mos. is very poor. Well looks like its back to Gigabyte for me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please try below to see if its resolved the issue.

• Clear the CMOS.
• Load the BIOS default.
• Reseat video card firmly and its 6+6 PCIE power (if applied).
• Test on second PCIE slot.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Board at First, Durability is Questionable

Pros: This was, at the time I purchased, the cheapest Z97 board that supported Intel's Xeon CPUs while having PCI 3.0. Conveniently, it also reviewed really well.

For a long time, it worked perfectly. However, the board has a bit of a design flaw that has over time reduced its reliability for me. Perhaps I'm merely unlucky, but most reviews I see are from people who just purchased the board.

It isn't all bad - the board is surprisingly packed with features that are otherwise pretty hard to find in general, let alone at this price point.

It has a debug LED, for instance. At the time, to get something like that, I'd have expected to pay upwards of $200, let alone the $120 I paid for this board at the time. Even now, it's a great deal if you have to use an LGA 1155 socket CPU for some reason.

Cons: Really, this board has one major design flaw - it's flexible. Very, very flexible.

It's easy to bend the board in place simply by pressing gently on it. Over time, the fluctuating heat where I live, in conjunction with this fact, has slightly warped a few of the contacts on the board - as I said, it's not hard to warp the board significantly by simply pressing on it.

On a hot day (around 85 F), in order to get the PC I own with this board to boot, I must reseat all electrical contacts. I have independently tested all the components in my build, and all work fine - it is definitely the connection with this board.

Other Thoughts: I dislike having to post this review, as I do believe with the design flaw I mentioned above taken care of, even via simply using a thicker backboard, that this would easily be a motherboard that lasts a long time. It's well-built. It comes with a lot of stuff that's hard to get elsewhere.

Perhaps I simply got a botched board. This isn't the first time I've heard similar complaints, though. I brought my machine to a couple of IT major friends of mine, and they all agreed it was the most flexible board they'd ever seen in a machine.

I still recommend this if you can reasonably stabilize the environment your pc runs in. But just be warned - I'm not sure this is a board that will last.
