2 out of 5 eggsJust Ok Entry Level Product.

Pros: Lots of fan headers.
Rear USB 3.0
Easy to install and setup.

Cons: No USB 3.0 front header witch is standard on most other brands.
Sketchy 8 core support.
Lacks bios features common to most other brands

Other Thoughts: I'll buy MSI or Asus in the future.
If you buy ASRock go for top of the line not the budget boards.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jason,

Thank you for purchase and review.
Mainboard comes with 2 x USB 3.0 at rear I/O but not front header.

1 out of 5 eggsFreezes

Pros: its adequate when it doesn't freeze.

Cons: Every time i try to run AutoCAD, it freezes for about 2 minutes. nothing responds, not even right clicking the desktop. if i right clicked on the desktop in a bunch of places after it unfreezes all the right clicks i did appear really fast and only the last right click remains, then it runs fine until it freezes again. no matter if AutoCAD was already loaded and closed out, if i try to load it again it will freeze. it'll randomly freeze when watching a video and acts like its skipping loop.

Other Thoughts: Running the latest v1.9 firmware. I've disabled every smart cpu feature in the BIOS (UEFI), I've enabled every feature. I've used 1 memory slot only. used all slots. no matter what setup i use, it continues to freeze. It's done it ever since i bought it in 2013. hasn't gotten worse, but hasn't gotten better. the only reason that i never wrote a review is because i trashed the computer in the closet only to resurface recently. tried every version of windows from 7 to recently 10, freezes on all of them.
it says on the website that the FX-8350 is compatible since V1.50. very unpleasant experience. wish i could return this for another because it feels like a waste of money.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Josue,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please load the BIOS setting default.
Check the CPU is not overheating.
If possible, test with another VGA card and memory to check if the symptom still occurs.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent budget board

Pros: It has ran my 8350 FX Black edition for 2+ years now

Cons: Weak VRM but it's manageable. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this board isn't exactly compatible with the 8350 FX as it was initially advertised. I had to disable some settings in the BIOS, one of them being the turbo feature, to get this board to stop throttling when the temperatures became too hot. Also there aren't any USB 3.0 connections for the front of the case.

Other Thoughts: This board has handled a 8350 FX paired with Radeon 7970 and then GTX 970 quite well considering it's technically not compatible with that CPU. I've played countless games on it with hardly any problems after fixing the throttling. However if you have the money then definitely buy a better motherboard than this one to get the most out of your CPU.

1 out of 5 eggsNo longer works properly

Pros: It supports SLI at a reasonable price. Plenty on USB ports.

Cons: After using this board lightly for a year it will not longer wake up or power back on. The only solution is to flip the switch on the power supply, wait 20 minutes, flip the PSU switch back and hit the power button. I've replaced all other components and clean installed the OS. The issue persists. I cannot recommend ASRock after this. Really disappointing.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked for 9 months then died

Pros: Had LEDS on board to indicate the specific problem, a very nice feature for identifying problems

Cons: Red LED for CPU indicating no CPU readings - a very common error for this board (do internet search). Worked for 9 months then stopped. Shows red LED for CPU. Replaced CPU and still red LED. Trouble shot RAM, video card, re-set BIOs, power supply tested, looks like, for whatever reason, the CPU socket/circuit no longer functions. After search for hours on internet, there appears to be many with similar problems.

2 out of 5 eggsWatching my first rig die

Pros: Was easy to build on for a first timer
It worked like a motherboard should.

Cons: First one fried itsself and a CPU
Then Ive ran this one for well over a year and...

I feel like I'm slowly watching my baby die.
Every day the past week I've have to preform CPR to the ram just to get this thing to boot every day.
It seems like the slots for the ram have worn out with age somehow.

Some days the screen just stays black, other days it just wants to read one stick of ram, and just now, it took 2 hours of CPR to get my baby to boot. It's even starting to forget that it had an SSD pluged into it.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Dr. Debug is nice. Helped me figure out the board was defective.

Cons: Board would not post, Dr. Debug code 00, cpu was fine, checked ram on another system (was on the supported list), checked sata cables on another system, checked gpu on another system, and checked power supply. Newegg promptly issued a RMA.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued ASRock Customer,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard whether the issue is resolved.
• Unplug the ATX power, remove all components from mainboard.
• Clear the CMOS.
• Reseat the CPU and heatsink fan.
• Test with single memory module.
• Reseat video card firmly and 6+6 PCIE power (if applied)..
• Plug the 24 + 8 or 4 pins ATX power.
• Connect the chassis power switch to mainboard.
• Turn on the power to check if its post or check the last code shown on board.

2 out of 5 eggsWhile it worked it was ok, then it died

Pros: -It worked ok

Cons: -Many other boards are cheaper and better
-Burnt out faster than any other part

Other Thoughts: -I would not purchase the cheaper boards from Asrock. If you to buy from them, go for the pricier ones for quality

3 out of 5 eggsDecent at stock settings

Pros: Cheap
Has dual x16 PCIE Slots
Onboard Audio Works Well
990 Chipset
Can technically run 8 cores
Good fan power connector placement with multiple PWM connectors

Cons: 4+1 VRM that can't take much heat, throttles early
Sketchy 8 core support
No USB3 header
Gets VERY hot if you even think about overclocking

Other Thoughts: I replaced a Gigabyte board with this that was having all sorts of stability issues just to get it done quickly and cheaply. It does the job, but is not a good overclocker at all. I was able to squeeze my Thuban 6 core from 2.8 to 3.6ghz and that was it and the VRM would get very hot at that speed and throttle everything down. Left it at 3.0 after awhile and it ran a little hot but not bad, but not fast enough TBTH.

Fast forward to now, I picked up a FX8350 and a new case. With 8 case fans and a big CM212Evo in a push/pull configuration I can get the FX8350 stable at stock voltages but I am running it undervolted to give the VRM a little extra room and it still is stable at 4.0ghz. I am running it as is for now but will be picking up a new mobo with a better VRM setup and actual 8 core support.

All that said, this is a very good budget board for $90 after the rebate you can't beat it if you don't want to overclock and are running something that doesn't use as much juice as the FX even though I was able to eventually get mine stable.

Would probably go with the ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0 for a budget board if you are thinking of overclocking on a budget though. If you can spend the extra coin on the mobo I'd say go straight to the Extreme9 or the ASUS Crosshair.
