5 out of 5 eggsPretty great for its price

Pros: Good build quality, easy to install, easy to operate

Cons: Could have added more sata ports.

Other Thoughts: I have upgraded to a 990 board but I would still use this in any other build.

4 out of 5 eggsASRock is a life saver!

Pros: This motherboard has provided an excellent solution for my old ASUS motherboard that did not even last a year! It has been very reliable and much more effective than its predecessor.

Cons: The only down side to this board was the how the Network Interface Controller lasted only two months. But i guess that is what i get for not searching each indvidual component.

Other Thoughts: My father has been using this in the media computer he uses to watch netflix.

5 out of 5 eggsStable Mobo

Pros: -UEFI BIOS makes it easy for inexperienced users to change settings in the BIOS if needed.
-Has had no compatibility issues with any drivers or the like thus far.
-Works well for gaming uses.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This motherboard is still going strong, over a year after purchase. I don't regret buying it.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked good for 1.5 Years!

Pros: -Price
-OC is easy
-Crossfire
-USB 3.0
-8120 capable

Cons: -Buggy the last 6 months prior to it failing
-Only lasted a little over a year
-No USB 3.0 Header!

Other Thoughts: This motherboard was great for the first year. Ran my fx-8120 at 4.5 perfectly and wasn't difficult to OC. It was a great price as well for what you get.
After a year, I had problems with boots and random shutdowns. Thought it was the power supply starting to fail but ended up being the motherboard.

When the motherboard was working correctly I would give it 5 stars! If it lasted another year I would be so much more happy. Since it failed after a year I give it 3 stars. Wish there was something I could do.

2 out of 5 eggsDead After a year

Pros: Onboard soundcard?

Cons: "The car actually flew?"
"Look at this, made in japan no wonder it broke!"
"Doc all the best stuff is made in Japan."
"Unbelievable."

Really it is because the level of technology has reached such heights that something as small as a bios chip can ruin the entire mobo.
Don't update your bios!
Both Newegg and AS Rock wouldn't cover it.
I really wanted to buy a new video card for christmas not a new motherboard.

I've had 486s last longer then this!

1 out of 5 eggsUnsupported with FX-8350

Pros: The MB has a lot of features and is a good all around MB. Very economical.

Cons: I started having problems with the board and after I contacted ASRock support they informed me that my FX-8350 CPU isn't on their supported CPU list for the MB. It is supported on almost every other MB they make that uses the AM3+ Socket, and the FX-8150 is on the list.

This seems more like a cop out rather than anything else. I think they saw problems with it which is why they released a new version of the EXTREME3 (Which does support my CPU) and then took the 8350 off their list so that they didn't have to take responsibility for any problems.

Other Thoughts: I think they have the best prices out of anyone else, most of their products work great. Just don't count on this company standing by you if you have problems with their product.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Easy return process.

Cons: I know it happens but I still think the review should be made. When I received the board and put it into my computer it didn't work, the part was Dead On Arrival.

Other Thoughts: I would have wanted to get a replacement, but it was my first computer build and I was anxious to get it done so I went and got a different board.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard to check if its resolved.

4 out of 5 eggsBasic Motherboard

Pros: The ASRock 970 EXTREME3 is a very basic (and now somewhat outdated) motherboard. It delivers good performance and options at a low price. Can't really beat it.

Cons: Although I love this motherboard, there was one problem... one of the PCI slots was DOA, causing me to have to move my soundcard up one slot from where I wanted it. If you intend on having multiple video cards, this could be a problem.
