1 out of 5 eggsDead Ram Slots

Pros: Overall a decent board, stable versatile.

Cons: 2 Dead ram slots, and if I have my keyboard hooked up to it will not post.

Other Thoughts: Well I only found out about the dead ram when I finally got around to upgrading my pc, and the keyboard thing is new because I am using something that requires more juice.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Vargas,

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please refer to the following suggestions to test your system.
1. Do clear CMOS for testing.
2. Re-install CPU and memory modules and confirm CPU/memory are installed properly.
3. Only install one stick memory to DDR3_A1 slot to check if system can boot up.
If yes, please install other memory modules to DDR3_A1 slots to verify if all memory modules are working well.
4. Please install one stick memory module to each DRAM slot to verify if all DRAM slots are working well.
5. If possible, please change another CPU or memory for testing.

Thank you!

5 out of 5 eggsBlue Lights Yay!

Pros: Pretty blue-light action and has yet to fail on me after a year and a half of semi heavy use.

Cons: None so far, has not broke so there is nothing I find wrong with this. Not loud either.

Other Thoughts: Worth your money.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board!

Pros: I've had this board for over 2 years, on year 3 now, and it hasn't failed me once. The bios is easy to use and functional, unlike my Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H, which has a terrible bios that doesn't allow me to change any settings in advanced mode. Other than that, it overclocks my 2500k to 5ghz easily. The looks are better than most boards.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Brown PCB is eh, so are the things on the heatsinks. Digi power abd extreme are alright, but whats with the random V8 on the chipset heatsink?

5 out of 5 eggsHandy

Pros: The range of ports available on this motherboard is not easy to come by. The applications for each type of port, I've seen a few times and this motherboard has not let me down, even when I needed to use an old PS/2 keyboard. 2 PS/2 ports. The onboard power reset buttons are a plus, and handy.

Cons: There is only one con. The CMOS reset button on the back is too easy to press when trying to plug in a PS/2 keyboard. I was having computer troubles and needed it, and must have hit that button 3 times by accident. Long story short, I stopped reconfiguring my bios.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Failed AsRock MOBO

Pros: Worked for a 8 months

Cons: This is my third asrock board to quit in under a year. The only reason I keep going back is because they have holes drilled for my 775 waterblock.
My first board (extreme6) just decided to burn up the entire area around the 24 pin connector.
Second board (extreme6) had the whole bottom left portion of the board slowly die out one component at a time.
This last board (extreme4) started to act buggy in the OS, I decided to reboot. It went into a boot loop and would not boot to BIOS. Cleared CMOS shut down completely. When I tried again it powered on power would come on but no other signs of life appeared.

I'm finally forever done with this company. I am going to attempt warranty replacement on this last board as it was only running for 7 months or so before self destruction. Although, I have heard the warranty replacement process is not very successful.

Other Thoughts: I was really hoping against hope that I was just unlucky with the first couple boards. The third just confirmed my fears about the overall quality of products they sell.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Customer Service!

Pros: The board is amazing for decently overclocking the CPU and Memory! Take it from my experience: you should definitely stick to under 4.5 GHz with this board, and also stick to 1866 MHz memory or below. I personally recommend some low CAS 1866 memory. I know for a fact that Patriot Memory's XMP is supported, so I hope that helps! ^__^

Cons: The only problems I have encountered are high-end overclocking for CPU and Memory. Keep it at 1866 Mhz memory and 4.4 GHz or lower CPU. The 8-phase power design definitely limits the potential for overclocks. I would personally recommend 4.2 or 4.3 MHz, just to be safe!

Other Thoughts: I ran this board on both the i7-2700k and i7-3770k. Both CPU's performed amazingly and much higher than I initially expected for the price! I did unfortunately need to RMA the board twice due to memory socket errors and CPU errors when trying to overclock my with a custom profile, so I replaced it with one of the dragon logo boards from MSI and decided to keep the clock frequencies as close to stock as possible.

I have no idea why memory overclocking would cause a problem since the board claims to support 1.65v, but it definitely killed both the first and second RAM slots (even with a memory cooler) which is extremely odd considering that the slots are 1+3, 2+4 spaced slots for each channel like most other motherboards.

Anyways, the customer service from ASRock is always 10/10. They will send you a new replacement board that they keep in stock directly from Taiwan, and you even get to speak with an extremely lovely Asian woman on the phone who is more than happy to help process the replacement for you!

Thanks so much, Stefenie and Daisy from ASRock USA. You always provide a pleasant experience in the RMA process! ^__^

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so great

Pros: Great Mobo for a great price.

First one died within 5 minutes, but not the motherboards fault. Power supply shorted it out.

Second one came (upgraded version) and has been running great ever since.

-Good amount of usb 3.0
-Digital readout very helpful for trouble shooting
-Bios works well (looks pretty)

Reliability is the main concern for mobos. This one is put together well and seems like it will last a long time (lets hope it does). Had it for almost a year and no issues whatsoever.

Cons: -Back plate for connectors somewhat difficult to install (very sharp)
-Holes for mounting motherboard on case have thin metal spacers that get ripped up when installed, so be cautious if you need to remove and reinstall the mobo
-Could have more 4 pin connectors (only 2 I think)
-Chipset is a little tall so be careful with what graphics card you use. I have an EVGA 660 and there is about 1mm space between the two.

Other Thoughts: First time going with ASrocks for motherboard. Really like the design and it has a neutral black color (if you care about color coordinating)

5 out of 5 eggsStill Going Strong

Pros: The motherboard is still going strong and without issues after a year and a half. This was my first build ever (did it for my wife), and since I have used about 10 different ASRock motherboards, and all have worked perfectly.

Cons: Other people's negative reviews!

Other Thoughts: I had an interesting experience about 2 weeks ago with my wife's computer, which uses this motherboard. I came home from work and she tells me it will not turn on. I power it on, and all the lights from the case fans light up, and all the other components spin up, but the board will not post. I figure its the ram, and so I take some ram from another PC, that is currently working and start testing one slot at a time. Nothing happens, the board still does not post. We have 3 cats and the last time I dusted her case was in November (this happened mid February). Needless to say, her case was filthy and to test anything other than the RAM I would need to clean it out. So I got my dusting supplies (can of air and swiffer duster) and start cleaning. After I made the thing spotless, in order to start swapping other components, I decided to try and power it on one more time. Sure enough, the motherboard posts, and starts right up. It was as it was before, no issues at all. I then went ahead and tested all the ram sticks one more time, all 4 (the two original, and the two I added), and all 4 worked and so did every slot, so I left her with 16 GBs of ram and put her computer back in its place.

I consider it a lesson learned, ASRock mobos work amazing, but they need to stay clean. The odd part is I can't think of a reason why dust would cause such issues.

This is for all those people I see writing about how their board dies after a year or so for no reason. I have a feeling what I experienced I am not alone in, and the other folks writing about their issues are experiencing something not very different and unique from mine.

Anyway I hope this saves at least one other person an RMA, and helps in general.
