5 out of 5 eggsGreat inexpensive board

Pros: I set this board up without a hitch. Has 3 PCIe slots and alot of features for a great price.

Cons: The only con I can come up with is that the bios does not offer a setting for the NB voltage setting.

Other Thoughts: I tried adding a video card in the PCIe slot to see if I could reproduce the lack of video that some people are having and it had no problems displaying with that card installed. It's all good here for me. I'm running this:

Athlon II X3 440
Asrock M3A790GXH/128
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (1333 at 7-7-7-20
XCLIO GREATPOWER 550W SLI Certified
CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS

1 out of 5 eggsreally sucks

Pros: it works most of the time if you don't do too much with it
works with ubuntu, most of the time
this will be a good excuse to buy a new mobo

Cons: igp is worthless, have to use a vid card to see anything (and sometimes that doesn't work)
can't update bios, many updates since i bought this thing
locks up intermittently
doesn't oc for ***t

Other Thoughts: i have been trying to update the bios and asrock tells me to look for things in the bios that are not there
this IS the worst mobo i have ever owned
i wished i could give it negative eggs rating
by the way i swapped stuff out (all new compatible parts)so there is no bad parts other than the mobo
this thing is embarrassing

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mobo

Pros: This, coupled with a phenom II x4, is pretty much what MADE my build. One of the best purchases I've ever made, setup was painfully easy. The onboard graphics are more than enough for your run of the mill HTPC, decoding HD video, running boxee, and even some light gaming like HL2 or something. Lots of sata ports, and any other kind of port I would need. Also, I wasn't expecting the HDMI out to just WORK right away, I thought it would need some tweaking, didn't even need that.

Cons: The worst I can say is some of the sata ports are close together, so big fingers like mine had a little trouble. Oh, and don't waste your time with ASRock included software like "instantboot" "IES" and whatnot. Stick with the utilities AMD puts out.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Budget SLI

Pros: Great Price. Fast! great options for Overclocking.

Cons: Like the other guy said.. serial and ps/2 ports? Why....

Other Thoughts: This was for a new semi budget SLI build based on the Dragon platform. Teamed up with AMD Phenom II X4 955 and an ATI Radeon HD 4870. 4gb OCZ 1600 Ram. Its a beast for the price! Setup was pretty standard, no real frills to speak of, but a nice solid board that went in easy with plenty of options for overclocking if you wish to do so. Also, I chose to use the OCZ XMP (intel) branded ram on this build wondering if the XMP would be an issue. It wasn't just set ram speeds manually per rated speed and no problems. If you are using 1600 Mhz Ram keep in mind you will have to manually set the speed and timings to make it work. Detects at 1066 as most any other boards will. (Works as designed)

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Good board

Pros: I am using this board since first week of June, 2009 ans so far don't have any issue. Did not get any issue even first time boot up. I will recommend this for all those who are looking a reliable board with lot of features (HDMI, IEEE1394 etc.) in a very reasonable price.

Cons: I am unable to understand how come the designer(S) of this board didn't notice that North Bridge is in the way of PCI 1 slot. So if you are planning to buy a TV tuner card then please make sure you have other PCI slot available. I am giving 4 egg because of this design fault.

4 out of 5 eggsIt simply performs

Pros: This board does live up to the hype and then some!! I burned up the net looking for info on it and it won test, after test, after freakin test.

It is hard to believe it is so inexpensive and so fast. Good stuff and I would buy it many time over!!

Cons: I read that it doesn't like to intialize add-on video cards on the first try and that is true. I have a early 08 leftover Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX in it right now (hey -this is a hobby machine so I am saving for a new card later) which runs fine if you bump start it. Power on the machine for 2 to 3 seconds - power off - then turn it back on and it lights right up!! If you do not bump start this way the video will NEVER come up and I have tried EVERYTHING - bios setting - diff card slots - the ASRock video selection card position (center of the board) - no go. But it is a minor issue when you consider the return on investment this thing gives. I have owned a few exotic cars in the past and they were fussy TOO from a cold start! The onboard video works fine 1st time - anytime, but is as slow as I thought it would be. Fine for business apps and movies - but forget about gaming it is just too slow. -1 one egg for the add-on video "bump" issue - still a fine board regardless.

Other Thoughts: ASRock makes bleeding edge fast gear. They offer quite a value for their price and they do not cut corners to reduce the price. Aggressive gear at aggressive prices - just like the processors this board was build for!!!

5 out of 5 eggsFROM GOOD TO BETTER

Pros: I posted a review on 6/3 that said the dvi-d port was not working after flashing the new bios, I was wrong. It not only worked, the surround view became available in bios as well.
When I first set up the system, I used an Nivia 8800gt card from an earlier build. I changed out that card for a hd2600xt that I was using in another pc. I guess using a nividia card is a no-no, if you want all bios options to function right.

Cons: Sine the NB heatsink is in the way of the only PCIEx1 slot, I moved my TV tuner card to the 3rd PCIEx16 slot, works fine.

Other Thoughts: If you are a Windows 7 tester, disconnect all but the HD you want to install Win7 on. If U don't, Win7 will install its files on all other drives for a multi-boot option.
You may prefer this, but, I don't.

1 out of 5 eggsa joke

Pros: none

Cons: received a defective motherboard on June, 1. spent $16 for returning shipping. After one week, still waiting for the replacement. Hope it will work. Not recommend.

Other Thoughts: wasting time and money on this motherboard.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: Lots of options in bios, great performance once bios is updated. Great software for in windows control, and so far stable as a rock.

Cons: #1, came with old bios, using win 7 beta & RC1 could not flash in windows or Dos. Had to install XP & flash in windows.
#2 only 1 pcie1 slot which cant take full size card because NB heatsink is in the way.
#3 the dvi output didn't work from the onboard video. For some reason it was disabled in the bios. Had to use the VGA port.

Other Thoughts: Once I updated the bios, the fan on my 955be went for quiet to vacuum cleaner loud (800mhz-3200mhz), but there was a bios & software solution for that.
With a 3rd bios to address the dvi port this would be great for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboard

Pros: Unlocked 4th core of my X3 720 with no problem. Good onboard video. Memory timings and usb settings were a little frustrating, but easy enough to figure out with a little research. (It didn't auto detect the correct memory timings and legacy usb devices, like older mice, had to be manually enabled in the bios to work on bootup.) It's a great value for the price, especially for people on a budget.

Cons: It has an issue with Windows 7 (Blue screens out once a day between 1 and 1:30 pm. Why it does this, I have absolutely no clue.) But since it is rock stable with Vista, I am suspecting that it a problem with the OS and not the board.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has great customer service. This was a replacement for a more expensive board, which just didn't work. Newegg was very helpful in getting the problem resolved quickly and the replacement in my hands a fast as humanly possible. Five eggs just for that.
