Quality Board From ECS
- Pros: - good value for the money.
- exceptional quality heatsinks/thermpads used for SB/NB/PWM. - NB heatsink dissipates heat rather well. - other mobo designs do not have PWM heatsinks, thus heat will be an issue for heavily threaded apps that utilize 100% of processor cores for even a short period of time. - ran the igp/radeon 4200 at 790 core/400 memory, with NO problems or artifacts.
- Cons: / as of BIOS rev. 785G717A.ROM /
- squealing component at PWM area, (PWM's?) after 3 minutes large FFT's in prime95. - manual overclocking thru BIOS does NOT work, hangs with error code "d0" (LED) even at default settings. - no overclocking options for memory/DDRAM and CPU-NB (only option is to increase base/reference clocks). - no voltage settings for CPU-NB vid.
- Other Thoughts: - overall a recommended buy for HTPC and other microATX build applications. just don't expect monster overclocks on air. BIOS needs a little work from ECS/AMI.

Excellent HTPC Board
- Pros: The board is solid. I installed a AMD Phenom II X3 720 CPU and 4GB Crucial Ballistix memory and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Windows installation was smooth and flawless, this board so far has been an excellent platform for my new HTPC. I have run the board 24/7 since the build and it is rock solid. Onboard ATI Radeon 4200 Graphics has plenty of power for BluRay and any other H.264 video I have thrown at it. 2x eSATA is a plus, plenty of internal SATA connectors.
- Cons: I will not deduct points for this issue, but a word of caution to those using Antec Fusion HTPC cases. The SATA connectors are "laid down" and instead of the connector facing directly up from the board face off the side. In my Antec Fusion case this makes for a tight fit, a standard SATA cable will not work. A "Left Angle" SATA cable is required and due to orientation renders 3 connectors unusable. I realize the connectors were oriented as such to accommodate large video cards, and normally clearance is not an issue with such a configuration.
- Other Thoughts: As mentioned in other posts, memory selection is crucial. Memory that is biased at 1.6V or greater must be used, I selected "Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 PC3 12800 BL2KIT25664BN1608" which is biased at 1.65V and have had no stability issues.
I have not performed any overclocking and cannot comment on stability or reliability due to such acts.

Mediocre at best
- Pros: Onboard everything, cheap, supports AM3, decent cooling.
- Cons: Cheap RAID controller. If you have something nicer like an NV or Intel or Promise, don't expect to migrate your current array to this board. Backup and rebuild.
Worst Radeon 4200 onboard graphics I've seen. Even with max RAM allocated/latest drivers, it's like the windows move in slow-mo after a few pixels. This is my 3rd 785G board, and my first/last ECS.
Memory module support is weak. Had 2x2G of DDR3. Motherboard manual says to install them in slots 1/2 for best performance. Slots are not labeled in the manual, and nowhere near the slots on the board. There is tiny silkscreening up by the CPU socket labeling their order. Would not post with 2 sticks in recommended config. Had to boot on one, move stock 1.6V to 1.65 for the memory I purchased, then would boot with both sticks. But still not in the recommended config - only as slots 1/3.
Front panel pinout is not silkscreened. Keep that manual!
No decode is available for on-board display, online or in manual.
- Other Thoughts: Even as a budget board, the cons are not worth the price. It does function, but the extra few dollars are very well spent elsewhere.
ECS did a great job of putting everything on this board people could want, if only they did a decent job with any of it.
Oh, and the manual reads like Chinenglish. Spend some coin on a native English speaker, folks.

Decent motherboard
- Pros: Paired this with Athlon II x4 620. Overclocked the bus speed to 250 as mentioned by someone else in other reviews and CPU runs at 3.25GHz and memory at DDR3 1600. Latest bios update supports DDR3 1600.
- Cons: none.
Overclocking for Dummies (update)
- Pros: After 3 months, I'm still very pleased with the price/performance ratio. My goal was to build a value HTPC that could also transcode, game, etc.
I paired it with a 2.6Ghz X4-810 and G.SKILL DDR3 1600 (F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ) and wanted to take the bus on this MB (which uses DDR3 1333 and needs 1.6v) from 200MHz to 240MHz. Made the 1 (and only) change to the bus frequency and viola, my cpu runs at 3.12Ghz and memory runs at 1600Mhz ... stable for 3 months! Even briefly tried the bus at 250MHz bringing the cpu to 3.25Ghz and the mem to 1666Mhz with no issue, but have not torture tested at 125% yet.
- Cons: Wish it had ACC. The X4-810 can unlock the L3 cache to 6MB with ACC.
I use both system fan headers, but can't seem to control both simultaneously manually from the BIOS (only 1 or the other). Though both work well from AMD Overdrive after boot-up?
The audio issue I mentioned in my other review is gone?
This should be obvious, but if you want to game, get a discrete GPU (I just stuck in an old GTS250 for now).
- Other Thoughts: Plan your build, and do the research. My system performs very well and I can max most of the setting while maintaining a very stable 7/24 machine. A lot of performance for a fraction of the cost.
The Dynatron G950 CPU cooler has a really nice mounting approach and works great on this MB with its solid back plate. It finger threads straight in (albeit it was a little tight and takes a firm grip and will not leave any threads to spare on this board). No sliding around typically associated with using the stock AMD bracket. It keeps my 3.12Ghz X4-810 at 38C under 100% load (with really good case cooling) ... no joke!
