5 out of 5 eggsThe best FX board.

Pros: It's simply the best AMD FX board you can buy.
Install went flawlessly.
An AMD overclocker's dream board.

Cons: It's not bleeding edge.

Chassis fans are all on 1 header.
Optional fans are not controllable through software (BIOS setting only).
It has temperature monitoring pins but not sure how they can be used by AI Suite 2.

It doesn't have the latest fan control software (Fan Xpert) and is not compatible with SpeedFan.
I SAY AGAIN: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SPEEDFAN.

Which basically means:
You have to keep it simple with your fan control and just be happy that it works well enough as expected. If you must have finite fan control then this will be a disappointment.

Other Thoughts: I know I ragged on the fan control, but this is a solid board. If I was comparing it against other Asus motherboards (including Intel based) it really should get a 4 (egg) instead of a 5. But it really does deserve a 5.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome Motherboard

Pros: Amazing motherboard. Has lots of room to fit just about anything you want on it. Tons of 3 pin fan connectors so you dont have to worry about buying splitters.

Q code LED lets you know exactly if theres problems that crop up quite clearly. You definitely want to keep the list of codes handy though.

EZ mode lets you adjust just about anything. Theres an automatic setting that adjusts all your bios settings for you. You can adjust them yourself if you have a need/want to. Default/Automatic settings work just fine though. Automatic overclocking pumped it up to 4.9 GHz just fine.

The box this thing comes in actually protects it extremely well during shipping. Seriously doubt you will get any damage to this motherboard. Its a nice thick box with lots of padding inside. If something gets damaged then someone probably threw it against the wall a few dozen times.

User manual actually makes sense for once. Even those that arent fully computer savvy will be able to look almost anything up and it gives fairly clear and precise instructions. This board and the support package that comes with it really is quite well set up for the new to computer building and to the experienced builder.

Cons: Nothing major really just a few minor things that are at the worst annoying.

This thing takes more power plugs than any other motherboard than Ive ever seen. The 4 pin additional CPU power is absolutely necessary otherwise system wont even boot up. The 4 pin old style plug on the left middle is only necessary if you have multiple video cards. Otherwise the bottom two PCI slots dont work as well as they should. Havent confirmed this one just going off what the book says.

All the SATA connectors face sideways to the board. Theyre all in one spot so if you have some hardware in the way you either have to move it or play the cable shuffle game. Not a major deal but a minor annoyance since there is not second SATA connector location on the board.

Theres only 2 USB 2.0 slots on this board. If you have any hardware that needs slots you might want to plan carefully.
Also only 1 USB 3.0 connector. While that is usual for most motherboards for the price of this itd be nice to have a second.

Price of the motherboard is a bit high but you do get what you pay for. I think it is worth it but it might cause most to hesitate just a bit.

Other Thoughts: Full setup:
CPU: AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7GHz
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z
Backup HD: WD BLACK SERIES WD2003FZEX 2TB 7200 RPM

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred
SSD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 2.5" 500GB

5 out of 5 eggsDoes it all

Pros: This motherboard has plenty of fan headers and eliminates the need to purchase a separate fan controller. It comes with just about everything you could want or need for you build including SLI and crossfire bridges as well as three sets of SATA cables and a ROG connect cable. Mine came with a BIOS that was capable of running my AMD FX 8350 out of the box.
Has a supplemental power supply connector to provide extra power to the processor when needed.
It's running reliably in my upgraded build so far.

Cons: Expensive - this is the priciest 990FX board on the market.
The complicated array of BIOS settings could be considered a con, but it could also count as a pro if you're into detailed tweaking of your system.
I had trouble getting sound to my speakers using the back-panel connections. I blame that more on not properly reading the manual than anything else, though.

Other Thoughts: My build:
ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard
AMD 8350 FX processor
Corsair H110 cooler
Crucial Ballistix Elite 16 GB DDR3-1866 RAM
MSI N780TF GTX 780 Twin Frozr graphics card
EVGA Supernova 1300G2 1300W power supply

I purchased this board along with the power supply to replace a 750W power supply and an ASRock 970 Extreme 4 motherboard. I was having stability issues with my previous setup, probably due to my inept initial installation, but with the new upgraded equipment and a host of lessons learned from disassembling and reassembling my previous build, I now have a powerhouse of a machine running.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Amd Gaming Motherboard

Pros: Well designed motherboard from Asus Rog, lots of options, overclocks extremely well with my Fx 8320, had board up and running in 10 mins of receiving the package. Also works great with the sapphire R9 290 tri-x oc I bought to go with my build. Can run ram listed at 2400 mhz oc with correct timings, the sweet spot though seems to be 2133 mhz with the Fx 8320 overclocked to 4.5. Lots of options on motherboard to expand system into the ultimate gaming rig.

Cons: None that has come up in my time of owing. shipping was the FedEx smart post option which can take some time if your on the west coast and its coming from the east coast.

Other Thoughts: Another great motherboard by Asus. Have bought over 5 Asus boards and everyone has been top notch build quality, have had this motherboard running smooth since xmas no issues have come up. Buy this and you wont be let down.
Thanks Newegg and Asus for such great service and products

5 out of 5 eggsamd 9590

Pros: You can do anything with this board.

Cons: There are no cons

Other Thoughts: I bought this for the use of a amd 9590 and there were only 3 motherboards at the time that supported that crazy cpu. I chose this one since I had its predecessor the crosshair IV. This motherboard has it all and more. Great buy.

2 out of 5 eggssysprep Windows 7 == POST error "0d"

Pros: best MB I've owned so far (when it works)

The nominal features (which are many) are a dream for a PC gamer / enthusiast. So there's a list of all the best features of all my past motherboards, and now ASUS / ROG put them all on the same board.

Cons: My warning in summary.
If you try to migrate your existing Windows 7 installation to this motherboard - by using Windows' sysprep utility - then you may find your computer will not boot. It hangs forever and doesn't even make it to the BIOS menu.

Another warning.
ASUS Support may not respond to your request for support.

Is this just a defective board? I will never know: My support ticket with ASUS has been ignored for 7 days now, despite the website claiming I would get a reply back within 48 hours. So I can only relate my experience as the only example I have.

The situation (with few details for here).
I prepared my Windows 7 installation to migrate to this new motherboard, but this MB won't boot up .. even if it detects the presence of my Windows partition. So I now have no way to recover my Windows installation. I would have to start over with a vanilla Windows installation and lose all the hundreds of programs I had installed.

The board displays a post code of "0d", and hangs there forever. In the user manual, this particular code is listed as... "undefined". So helpful.

Other Thoughts: I've discovered that the board actually works great --> as long as it does not detect *ANY* partition containing a Windows 7 in a "sysprep" state (i.e. in migration). That's just not okay - since many users would be attempting to migrate an existing Win7 installation to this new system.

Strangely, the same partition may be detected and fully accessed later.. however, only via an external hard drive, with no problems.... And chkdsk reports "no problems found" for this physical disk.

Odd that a board would do more than simply detect the hard drives, before even reaching the BIOS menu... Apparently it's looking around on the drives even at that early time; and then it seems something that crashes the board.

I would have given 3 stars, but the lack of customer service took requires me to take off another one. I assume that most users have a great experience, but mine is bad. I have no choice but to give this one bad rating for my one bad experience.

2 out of 5 eggsfacepalm*

Pros: Board is gorgeous you can tell its very high quality.

Cons: Well mine is all cons. I received mine built my system and discovered by the error codes being thrown up repeatedly that it is not working. Tried all the troubleshooting steps provided by asus including flashing and updating the bios and still have the same issues. I will be sending this back shortly.

1 out of 5 eggsYou will learn the hard way

Pros: learning the RMA process

Cons: *with no overclocking whatsoever!.... optimized default settings only!*

Firstboard new from newgg smoked and had to be RMA'd in the first 2 weeks; it came with unbeleaveably greasy fingerprints all over the board and blue tape stuck to the vrm heatsinks and thermal paste stuck just below the cpu socket,

The replacement board worked alright for 4 months then computer froze, and upon reboot a qcode of 10 and will not POST past the CPU initializing,

RMA'D to asus this time, received email saying my serial # was invalid, after talking to 3 different ASUS agents at 3 different times it was determined to
'Ignore that email"!?

It took 3 weeks for to receive the replacement board which they put the wrong address on the shipping label which delayed receiving it by another day,

I was upset they just sent someone elses "refurbished board" which you have no idea what kind of hardship someone else has put that board through and other components can be near death but pass their "refurbished test"

3rd board lasted 2 weeks of use, now it has the most awesome qcode of them all.... F.F. which indicates a dead BIOS... after reflashing BIOS, 24hrs removing all cables hardware, cmos batt, same FF code, all hardware works on another board and confirmed good hardware on this faulty board still displays FF code.

Now have RMA'd this 3rd board for a 4th board within 6 months of ownership, and 2x shipping with insurance....I have no trust in ASUS whatsoever and recommend everyone to forget the red and black asthetics of this board and the red lighs and buy a gigabyte ud3 or asrock fatality

Other Thoughts: you should be scared of the fact that these boards do not come sealed in any sort of box security tape at all, no plastic wrap, no flap sealing of any kind and even worse these are shipped with no anti electrostatic discharge bag at all.

no protection from ESD and no protection from anyone having previously opening these boxes and using the board before you receive it.

dont listen to the positive reviews left by 15 year old kids who owned it for 3 days and rave about how pro it is, or that because they watched you tube that they have a max egg tech level, you will be surly dissapointed

1 out of 5 eggsNot good

Pros: Good specs on paper.

Cons: Poor quality overall
Expensive

Other Thoughts: The first one I got had Vcore problems. The voltage was above 1.8 which is way high, considering my fx 8350 stock voltage is 1.38. I though is was going to fry my cpu. Had to wait like 3 weeks to get the replacement from newegg. The second one worked fine for about 2 hours, after that the cpu fan is always at high rpms. It doesn't matter what settings I chose in the UEFI the cpu fan controller wont lower the fan rmps to match the cpu temp. I know is not my water cooling system cuz i tried with my old mobo and it works fine. Right now my cpu temp is 23C, socket 40C and cpu fans rpms high for no reason. Now I've to deal with the incompetence of ASUS customer support to get it fix. Probably 1 month waiting to get a replacement or to get it fix. I got lucky that I kept my old mobo so can get my pc working while i wait. Worst quality control from asus. I'm not the only one. Go check the other reviews and you''ll see how many are having trouble with this mobo. Don't buy this c***.
