5 out of 5 eggsAwesome in every way!

Pros: This review is first impressions. Out of the box you can tell this is a leader motherboard. My opinion my be a little bias due to my love for Asus products. I buy EVERYTHING Asus, and have been never let down! That being said, never had a build that went so well using this board. From first fire up, some bios tweeks, and straight loaded Windows 8.1 in all of 13 min. Not one glitch!

Cons: Not a con, but a friendly fyi. Not sure if it's the board, or the RAM I used, but does not recognize 2400pc. You must tweek it, before you stick it!

4 out of 5 eggsNice Board

Pros: First off, IT LOOKS AMAZING!
I don't think the pics show it but it has a red vein going along one side of it that glows red. Matches my liquid cooling and case perfectly.

I don't see myself needing to upgrade this computer for a long time now. (I build lots of computers so i'll probably be buying another one anyway)

The built in soundcard is much better than expected, sounds very nice through my Razer Tiamat 7.1 gaming headset.

And the way this board displays error codes makes troubleshooting problems that my occur whilst overclocking so easy!

Cons: It's sad that the Ethernet port is the only thing I can complain about. None of my Ethernet cords will plug in all the way so they keep falling out. I've never had this problem with any other board. For some reason I can't get them to "snap" in so I've had to resort to pushing a toothpick in the corner to lock it in.

Other Thoughts: my RAM can go at 2400,... but either my RAM is faulty or the board just keeps resetting it to 1333. I'm not terribly upset by it though as 1333 seems much more stable anyway. But it is odd because the board is supposed to handle 2400 and doesn't seem to be able to.

4 out of 5 eggsThird Review on this motherboard

Pros: This is my third review of this motherboard

To see how much farther I can push the motherboard I dropped the on board memory of 32GB down to 16GB (2666Mhz) memory. This means I was only using 2 sticks of memory instead of 4 (THIS MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE when trying to overclock).

When I went down to only 2 sticks of 8GB it relieved pressure off the Northbridge and I was able to overclock the AMD 8350 up to 4.65GHz and pushed the memory up to 2560Mhz with their stock timings of 11-13-13-35 (Team X-Treme). This made a huge performance boost from my old settings and it was easily noticeable on boot up time.

What this tells me is something I knew for a while but was just to lazy to prove till recently. If you only use 2 of the 4 memory sockets and max out just those 2 sockets you can get a much better overclock and push the memory much farther than what the motherboard specs said it can do.

This test was done on the Crosshair V Formula-Z

I did the same test on a Crosshair V Formula (not the Z it is the old model) and I got similar results. I was able to get the memory to overclock up to 2450Mhz even though ASUS only claims it will only go up to 2133 when overclocked.

Hope this helps other people get the full power out of this motherboard.

Cons: Does not support full 32GB at claimed settings by ASUS

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome Motherboard

Pros: This board work just as you would want a board to work like. Easy to install and update.

Cons: The only con I could possibly think of that it still runs on 2.0 PCI and not 3.0.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine for me

Pros: I honestly don't know where all of the bad reviews come from. You all must have a horrible mismatch in parts, underpowered PSU's or who knows what. I got my Formula-Z as an open box from NewEgg.. Everything came perfect with all the hardware/wires and even the door hanger. It houses my 16gb of Ripsaw RAM 4x4, my MSI Radeon R9 280x 6g and my AMD Vischera just fine. Although I haven't had it for a massive amount of time the board has worked flawless.. Bios was easy and straight forward. Maybe its just because I went with all AMD chipsets that made it so smooth but so far its been perfect.

Cons: Don't really have any yet, and hopefully won't.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed 2 times

Pros: Looks great, awesome onboard sound, awesome layout as nothing seems to conflict with anything else, seems like a sound motherboard if you can get one that works; two failed for me.

Cons: UEFI or BIOS was useless as it is buggy. The mouse did not work and the arrow keys seemed impossible to use. I would click an arrow key then wait upwards of 30 or more seconds for the BIOS to respond and hopefully move; sometimes it would jump 2 or 3 items or possible I cued several clicks could go either way.

My hardware worked flawlessly on another board before attempting to install on this board so you can rule out 2 video cards, 2 sets of 4x4 or 16GB DDR 3 @2133, 4350 Processor, SSD, plus anything else. I have another working PC that I checked the memory and video cards with; but it is an FM2 Board so I can not check my processor. As I said I do not believe it to be my processor or any other hardware. Some BIOS options stayed when changed while other times they seemed to reset themselves. I used stock settings as I find no real need to over clock anything.

Using an SSD it took upwards of 4 min just to boot into Win7 Ultimate, 64 bit. Once the system was running it seemed to be ok, no BSOD. First board was replace via RMA, thanks NewEgg, and the second board was no better. Given my hardware I was expecting my system to have more zip and zing but it was more like slow and sluggish.

Needless to say I am done with Asus; their products lack any form of quality control what so ever. I had another Asus MB that took upwards of 2 MONTHS, more like some 70 to 80 DAYS to get replaced and I am here to say Asus has grown too big to care about the little guy anymore.

If you can get Asus to provide the correct information as to where to return an item I suggest you use Tracking and Signature plus insurance options to cover the cost of your item because the Asus RMA Process will LOSE your Product and leave you hanging for a replacement.

Worse yet you have a better chance of winning the LOTTERY without purchasing a ticket then you do of Asus lifting a finger to assist you. Granted they FINALLY replaced the defective MB with a REFURBISHED MB and it seemed to work as it should but it took upwards of almost 50 phone calls waiting on hold for days over a period of 80 days just to get a REFURBISHED BOARD. Nothing like spending over $250.00 US Dollars for a REFURBISHED Board.

I say this again Asus has grown too big to care about the little guy, and if you are not purchasing 100 products or more a day, consider yourself a LITTLE GUY...

Other Thoughts: NewEgg has been a Godsend with regards to doing what was right to solve this issue for me. They have gone above and beyond the call of duty to assist me with this issue and for that "I thank you NewEgg..."

I have purchased from NewEgg for over 10 years and not once have I ever had any ISSUE with a product or RMA and I look forward to being a loyal customer for many decades to come.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus Crosshair V Formula

Pros: Not a good product for me. I have had other Asus mobo with good results.

Cons: From the moment it was install it was not working. It didn't respond to double click, freezes when clicking. I had to right click and then enter in order to open an icon or a browser.
I tried several time to contact Asus customer support. I spoke to 3 of them. One was located in the Philippines!
I requested a refund but instead they told me to send to them the mobo. I did it having in my mind they were to check it and if it had problems they will give me a refund .
I also mentioned I didn't want this chip FX990X and problably can be exchange for another with intel chip.
They gave me a RMA nubmer and I SENT THE WHOLE BOX WITH CABLES,CONNECTORS,DVD FOR DRIVERS.
thinking of a refund.Today 3-25-14 I received a bare mobo. Nothing else! How come build it without the components?
Asus Customer Service cheated on me! It is an insult to my intelligence! Can a techician forget about that the mobo came in a complete box?

Other Thoughts: I had a Sabertooth FX990FX that worked fine for almost a year and finally presented the same symptons like this one. That's the reason I bought this mobo because I thought the Sabertooth has failed

3 out of 5 eggstheres something not quite right...

Pros: the board is fast it overclocks great games are smooth as can be with an 8350 and 2 760s be warned that the 8350 does not "support" 2400mhz ram and to overclock your ram that high to get the advertised speed will reduce your ability to clock the processor higher then 2.4ghz before it puts a strain on the northbridge and also having to worry about your socket burning up also note at 2.4 ghz windows performance is actually degraded. where click time seems laggy and icons do not show up right away on boot. the best if gotten so far was 4.4ghz with my ram underclocked to 1866 but i dont want to push it any more until i get a better cooling setup in this case(no manual controller on the tower)

Cons: i built this last week and since the first time ive powered it on my hard drives have been groaning in agony whenever my system boots and my mouse profile would make this annoying tick sound whenever moving the mouse or clicking. ive rebuilt it twice eliminating all possibility of user error making sure that nothing was shorting(which i had thought solved my mouse and hard drive problem becuase they stopped making that sound they were off balance for a second). well the last night i set up my power plan for max performance and decided with my fans running at 85% all the time it may be smart to allow to sleep. and left it run for the first time ever over night. while i was sleeping the computer went to sleep when i woke up it wasswitching back and forth from OC profile and the stock profile for what i can ony guess is was trying to wake itself from sleep and long story short i had to load optimized defaults to get back into windows. as soon as i got back into windows my wow cataclysm mouse(yeah it was old but it worked perfectly in my old system, 15 buttons dont judge me) died pointer speed was normal and then it just got slower and slower as the side of my mouse got hotter and hotter until it stopped responding. tried it in another tower and windows recognizes it but it never responds to clicks or movement. RIP mouse. my hard drives are now sounding like they are farting without pause anytime i transfer a file through my raid im still scratching my head on if this is an issue with the power supply or if the system is putting out too much power to my drives and usbs. nothing else is showing issues. ive tried everything i can possibly to think of to get this board running right and im at a loss becuase this is obviously beyond anything ive come across in 18 years of building pcs. i wish i owned a multimeter!

Other Thoughts: im actually about to power this beast of a computer off till i can get my friend over here to take a look through it all and see if he can find a problem before it kills my hard drives too

4 out of 5 eggsIntermittent Booting Issue

Pros: Great Board, system is very nice. Once its up and running, it's stable and will run for days, but occasionally hangs and needs a reboot. I suspect a problem with my particular board. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate, Twin ASUS GTX680, AMD FX-8350, 16 Gig RAM, TWO ASUS DVD burners, two Mirrored RAIDS and a SSD drive for the OS, my power supply is a Corsair HX 1050

Cons: There is an intermittent booting issue. Two things:

It either hangs completely, and then I have to shut down power supply, and retry, or push the Start Button on the board, that sometimes works.

Or the board looses track of my SD drive (master boot drive) and I have to sometimes go into the bios and reselect it. Then it will boot.

I'd love to have an ASUS engineer take the board and actually find the fault. Knowing is always nice.

Other Thoughts: I'm waiting to buy another copy of this board and try again.
