1 out of 5 eggsKeep looking for another board.

Pros: Most feature rich board available at the time of purchase 6 months ago.

Cons: Reliability and Price. It ran for about 4-5 months without issues. Board was held out as premiere board for AMD 9590 processor. Problem is that it has voltage detection issues specific to AMD 9XXX processors. Spent a number of hours troubleshooting the problem and eliminating other components as possible cause of lock ups only to read that others have had same issues with board. If a bios update can't fix this problem then the board should be pulled from further sales. Implied warranties under UCC 2-314, 2-316 apply and ASUS should be making good on ALL problems associated with this board and AMD 9XXX processors.

Other Thoughts: I will attempt to RMA this board.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience with your ASUS product. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this experience may have caused. Are you experiencing voltage issues on stock speeds? Try increasing the voltage to your CPU in increments of .01 until you achieve stability. Make sure to monitor your temperatures when increasing core voltage to avoid any damage to your components. Also, if you haven't already please make sure to set up your chassis fans to allow smooth direct air flow with cold air taking in and hot air exhausting out in order to keep your VRM and other hardware from overheating. If you have any technical questions or general inquiries you can contact me at cl-nestor@asus.com using N160545921 as reference to your case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

1 out of 5 eggsFull featured but unreliable board backed up by horrible support

Pros: This board has everything an enthusiast / overclocker could possibly want. On paper it's the best AM3+ motherboard on the market.

Cons: The only technical fault I have is that the bundled software is useless.

That is not why it gets 1 star. It gets 1 star because it's unreliable and ASUS warranty service is nonexistent.

Other Thoughts: I bought my first Crosshair V from Newegg. It worked great for 14 months then died with an F.F. error code.

I couldn't be without a computer while I waited for ASUS customer service to take their sweet time getting me a replacement, so I bought a second one from Newegg. That one was DOA; Newegg as usual came through with flying colors and gave me a prompt refund.

Meanwhile ASUS finally shipped me a package back. It was the exact same motherboard with a receipt that said "Repaired". Hooked it up - still gives F.F. error code. Did another BIOS reset. Still broken. All the components were pulled from a working system. I've got a degree in Computer Engineering and have building and repairing computers for 25 years. I know what I'm doing.

Another series of calls to ASUS warranty service, more runaround, more wasted time. Still no replacement motherboard or refund check. Next step is to take $25 down to the courthouse and sue ASUS for consumer fraud in small claims court. If their legal department is as incompetent as their customer service department I should have no problem getting triple damages.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate the feedback and thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. I'm sorry to hear about the failed RMA and if you would allow i'd like to help you get this issue resolved. Are your hardware components verified on our qualified parts list? Try to remove your CPU from the socket and then clear CMOS. Reinsert CPU, mount cooler and use a single module of memory again to see if the board will POST. If there is still no POST, contact me for a RMA. At this time, please forward me any associated case/RMA number from your previous experience with ASUS Warranty Services for further investigation. Contact me at cl-nestor@asus.com with more details to your experience and i'll make sure to try my best to help solve this mishap. Your reference number to this review is N160538866.

4 out of 5 eggsreview update

Pros: new egg sent me a replacement board after the first one was doa. new one works good so far no issues as of yet. been running it about a week now. I like the new eufi bios verry easy to understand and set up. overall very pleased with it now that i have one that works :D

Cons: waiting and waiting and waiting for a replacement board from new egg seemed like an eternity . Also lost about 25 bucks on shipping the first doa motherboard back to new egg. then took about 4 days to process after they had recieved it, Then they handed my replacement order to a parapalegic legless guy to army crawl it over to my house as slowwwwww as possibe. but at least the replacement works I'm still out an extra 25 bucks and a ton of stress. which is why i am only giving this 4 stars not 5

Other Thoughts: this review is an update to my now deleted angry one about the first motherboard that was dead. although i am pleased with the overall working motherboard i now have. I am not sure if i would recommend purchasing from an online vendor as replacement time is soooo long not to mention the shipping to send a bad part back . If you can buy this product the asus crosshair v formula z from a local vendor with an actual roof, I would recommend it as its not gonna cost you anything to march it back and get a replacement. vs waiting on new eggs replacement times and not covering shipping. newegg kinda happy with but not really mixed feelings on one hand they sent me a replacement so that's good on the other hand i am out another 25 bucks and the replacement took forever to come back to me. . the product however when working properly i would reccomend buying as it sits working in my computer now. but for myself future refrence next motherboard i buy will be coming from a local store and not online.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid board but crashes my PC when I activate SLI

Pros: Enough PCIe slots and SATA ports for everything I need to hookup components to. For the most part, reliable with no issues.

Cons: Whenever I activate SLI, my PC crashes. When I disable SLI, everything is fine. I use Windows 8.1 and two EVGA GTX760's. I have a 1200W Enermax power supply, so power is not an issue. Wondering if it is just a faulty board, or if it is a design flaw.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to share your ASUS experience. I apologize for any inconvenience this experience has caused. Have you tried swapping and putting the bottom card on top vice versa? Test each GPU one-by-one to check for any defective graphics cards. Also, if you have a spare, try installing a different SLI bridge for debug purposes. At this time make sure to download and install the latest NVIDIA drivers for your GPU's. If you haven’t already please Download UEFI version 2201 and extract the file to a fat formatted usb stick. Then navigate in bios to the tools menu and use the EZflash utility to do the flash. Let your system update the firmware as needed. Do not power down even if your system sits with a blank screen for 10 minutes or so. When updating your UEFI please make sure to wait for the firmware to update after the board restarts following the flash. This can take a couple of minutes after the board restarts. The board should be left alone during this process. You can locate the BIOS .cap file on our Online ASUS Help Desk:https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULAZ/HelpDesk_Download/. If the issues persist, feel free to contact me at cl-nestor@asus.com using N160515285 as reference to your case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

2 out of 5 eggsNot everything I had hoped

Pros: I like the mother board itself, but it falls short of what I call great

Cons: The Biggest problem I have with this mother board is its old and still carries EZ flash 2. If it had EZ flash 3 there would be no problem.
It will not let the intel 750 800g SSD be recognized as a bootable drive. I have searched all over for a Bios update to flash and make it all better. However it does not exist anywhere I can find making this the wrong motherboard. I should of done more research on my end. I love Asus products but am hating this problem more everyday. It will be my first Newegg returned item I am afraid to say.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for sharing your ASUS experience. It is unfortunate this motherboard doesn't meet your standards and please accept my apologies for any troubling experiences. 1 out of 5 eggsIt worked for a little while

Pros: Still trying to find a pro.. It is still limping along after owning for 6 months, and running for three? (I had to save and build a single part at a time)

Cons: It freezes without warning or error. The screen will just freeze. At first, I thought it might be a power issue, so I swapped my EVGA 120-G2-1300-XR 80 PLUS GOLD 1300 W with another 750 W power supply I had lying around and no luck. The proceesor is an AMD FX-9590 Vishera 8-Core 4.7 GHz Socket AM3+ Black Edition with water cooling. First, I ordered G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) and was told that the memory was the cause for the freezing. I just ordered G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) with the active cooling fans, installed it and still the same thing. Either G.Skill has horrible memory, or the board is cause. I haven't read if I am past the RMA yet (probably am), but either way this will be my last ASUS purchase.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this for me or you
I would not recommend this in a po0
I do not enjoy this negative review
So this motherboard will get kicked with a shoe! (if past the RMA period)

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings Robert,

1 out of 5 eggsError FF out of the box

Pros: If it had worked I could have listed something.

Cons: Out of the box with an error code FF. Took me a while of scrimping and saving to get all the components for my computer, so when I finally got the last piece I was excited to put it all together and see how it ran. Was terribly upset when I connected power to my motherboard and saw FF. I ran through the full troubleshooting process to no avail. Hopefully I'll be able to get things worked out so that I can give a proper review.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for sharing your ASUS experience with the Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenient experience that this experience may have caused. Is your CPU, memory provided in our ASUS Qualified Vendors List? FF is associated with your CPU. Did you have another compatible CPU for debugging purposes? At this time please remove your CPU from the socket and proceed with a clear CMOS. Reinsert CPU, mount cooler and use a single module of memory to see if the board will POST. Please make sure to complete the power cycle off before making changes to your hardware to prevent any damage to your parts. If the board still doesn't POST after troubleshooting, I would advise contacting your Place of Purchase for an exchange. If you have any technical questions or general inquiries, feel free to contact me at cl-nestor@asus.com using N160431450 as reference to this case.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

1 out of 5 eggsVery Poor Product Support

Pros: When this motherboard works it does well, but there are too many bugs in it. This board is a good concept.

Cons: The board is not stable, and if you are not a master technician you need to purchase another brand. I have had two high priced boards fail in the last six months that should not have failed. The last board had USB ports that failed and I ran it with only a few working USB ports until I replaced it with this one. This one completely failed one night and refused to work again. The Asus support staff have been giving me the run around for the last three weeks. First, they said that it would be covered under warranty, but that they did not have one in stock. Now they say that it has customer induced damage, but did not write me any emails. All I am getting is stonewalled and lied to.

Other Thoughts: I would never recommend an Asus board or any other product to anyone. At one time they had good support, but now one can barely understand the support staff and they are openly hostile to their customers. It seems that they are abandoning making good motherboards and laptops and going after other ventures. There have been no new innovations from that company since 2012 while other manufacturers are introducing improved motherboards regularly. I do not predict that this company will be around much longer to honor their obligations.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for sharing your informative review. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this experience has caused. What seems to be the issue with your motherboard? Is your memory and power supply provided on our ASUS Qualified Vendor's List. Have you already tried testing your motherboard outside of your case on a non-conductive surface to check for a possible short in your chassis? Clear CMOS and see if the board will POST. If it will not, pull one memory module and place the other stick in the slot furthest from the CPU and see if that helps. Please make sure to complete the power off cycle before testing hardware to avoid damaging your hardware. I would recommend flashing to the latest UEFI (2201) if you can get the board to POST for optimal system stability. When updating your UEFI please make sure to wait for the firmware to update after the board restarts following the flash. This can take a couple of minutes after the board restarts. The board should be left alone during this process. If there is no POST following this process, then it would be best for you to provide us with your full list of parts for further analysis on QVL parts. If you have any further questions you can contact me directly at cl-nestor@asus.com using N160420706 as reference to this case.

3 out of 5 eggsSmooth start, then rough sailing.

Pros: Started off sweet and easy. Bios and install of Windows OS went smooth and had no hiccups. Plenty of RAM slots and PCIe Slots. Lots of USB ports as well.

Cons: Lasted about a month and a half before I started getting IO exceptions and other errors. Less then a year and I have had to replace my HDD and reinstalled my OS over a dozen times.

Other Thoughts: Loved the product when it was new, but after a short while it crashed. Still alive if only hope to get a new MOBO soon so I can get my computer going without issues for again. For now I give it 3 eggs but depending on support of this product would easily give 4 or more.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

5 out of 5 eggsBack for seconds....

Pros: The board has about any option you'd need for your everyday rig or for gaming, plenty of tweaking options if you dare yet you really don't have to. Has the heavier 8+2 phase for powering CPU's that would otherwise kill lesser boards, namely the 9xxx series CPUs many are popping into inferior boards and then wondering why it died.... If it's made for this socket this board can handle it.

Cons: None that would be of any consequense here.

Other Thoughts: Recently bought my 2nd CHV-Z board and this one is doing great in my new DD build. The other/older CHV-Z is still going strong itself and I've nothing to say bad about it either. Both have done all I've expected from them and suspect these will last for years to come esp if taken care of properly.
This model board along with the Sabertooth 2.0 can run the 9xxx series CPUs without the worry of a meltdown/burnout taking place just "Because". I know anything can fail but to give yourself the best possible chance of your new setup living with one of those chips you need a board that can handle it and the cooling that series CPU requires (Water). Just be sure your case has good airflow and this board should last for a few years, maybe longer.
Again I know lemons can be had from any series, I had an original CHV that I had to RMA twice before getting a working board back but since, no probs at all and that was at least 4 years ago. I can't complain alot since Asus took care of it and made sure I had a working board in the end and with the record this newer model has I've noting bad to say at all. If I had a gripe at all it would be the volume level of the board's onboard audio is too low even if maxed out. My 'el cheapo ASRock board has louder audio with my headphones, possible this may only be an issue with this particular board but I can only say what I've experienced personally.
Otherwise there's nothing wrong with it.
