5 out of 5 eggsRock solid on first start!

Pros: I downloaded Asus Windows 10 drivers prior to installing this board. Installed the board without issues into the case. On first boot no issues, did a clean install of win 10 pro. Installed all available Asus win 10 drivers for the board. Everything checked out and is working. Owned the regular formula board previously so was familiar with this boards UEFI bios. Easily bumped my 1100t CPU from 3300 to 3700. So far completely stable...ran memtest to ensure the memory was good to go (my 2011 formula board had a bad mem slot)..passed with zero errors:). So far this board has been rock solid with no issues and no issues with Windows 10 pro.

Cons: Price..especially with AMD coming out with a new socket and chipset end of 2016. I/o shield that goes in the case.. Am I the only one who has issues putting that thing in correctly? The industry needs to come up with something new for that panel lol.

Other Thoughts: Asus win 10 drivers seem solid so far. No issues with sound. I am having issues with my NGA6200 AC USB wireless adapter randomly disconnecting. But had this issue on old board under win 10 as well.. Most likely a bad driver from NG. Rig is case: Thermaltake GT 10, Asus formula-z mobo, 16gig gskill ripjaw memory, nvidia GTX 970, AMD 6-core 1100t with corsair ht100 water cooler.

2 out of 5 eggsGood board, but FF code issues plague it harshly

Pros: Easy to set up, works fine for everything I wanted(See cons for issues)
Extra sata locations made for easy install into a case that was NOT meant for short cables, and the water cooler worked well with the system, and the spacing around the CPU was good for larger non-water cooled heatsinks.

Cons: After a few months of use, I'm getting the Dreaded FF code, After a long troubleshooting session, it HAS to be the board, as everything else is working fine in other places, It boots, and will go to bios, but after 20 or so seconds, the board states FF and shuts down, Trying to restart after that leads to an immediate FF code again and shutdown. 2 Water coolers, new ram, PSU, GPU and a changed CPU and this still happens

Other Thoughts: After years of using Asus, Ive finally found a board that didn't work. I cant say asus is to blame, as every other board I've had in the last 10+ years has been perfect, but MAN did this one make me angry

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent motherboard

Pros: - Amazing gaming motherboard
- Amazing BIOS
- Recognizes up to 32gb of 2400 RAM.
- Able to operate even without a case if you like, thanks to buttons on board
- Plenty of options for graphics cards, expansion cards, SLI, etc.

Cons: - Expensive.
- Only PCI Express 2.0 (Though the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 performance is negligible)
- Requires electricity?

Other Thoughts: It's expensive, I get it. But you get what you pay for. Honestly, this is my third ASUS ROG board. This is the only board I buy. It's worth it.

3 out of 5 eggsnot difinitive?

Pros: even with the cons i'm having with it, it' still an upgrade from my previous board

Cons: i've only had it for a couple of days so this review won't be too accurate but so far this board doesn't come with any 3 pin case fan connectors which is unfortunate because now i can't use my rear fan. i don't know if i just didn't see it listed anywhere on the specs page or if it just wasn't listed at all, it's eating 100mb of my ram for whatever reason which i don't like, granted it's only 100mb but that's still 100mb i could be using for something else. i have a problem where my taskbar freezes on almost every boot-up and my programs i have set to load at startup don't load (sometimes they do sometimes they don't) i don't know if that's a problem with the board itself or if it's due to the fact that i can't use my update disc or install any windows updates (power cable for cd drive isn't long enough and i've yet to reinstall windows to reuse my product key or upgrade to windows 10 and use my windows 10 product key, nothing to do with the board itself) but if that taskbar and program startup issue does have something to do with the board itself then i've no idea how to fix it.

Other Thoughts: assuming i had a functioning cd drive or simply had a usb cd drive so i could do all of my updates, i would certainly buy this again

3 out of 5 eggsNo RAID for windows 10

Pros: This Board is all around good. It's fast, and supports some serious gaming.

Cons: DOES NOT HAVE WINDOWS 10 x32 or x64 RAID DRIVERS

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this board, but not for anyone wanting RAID on windows 10

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for informing us on your experience with the ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z. Please update your AMD chipset driver to the most recent update. Are you using AMD RAIDXpert Utility? The AMD SB9xx RAID Drivers need to be installed during installation in order for the windows process to work. 5 out of 5 eggsAn absolute powerhouse.

Pros: I built a computer around this mobo early 2013. Build included a FX 8150 and ASUS HD 7870, upgraded to the R9 390 last week. It has decimated everything I've thrown at it. Handles every piece of hardware that I've attached to it flawlessly. I even dropped my computer from shoulder height onto cement last summer and no problems, though that might attest to Cooler Masters impeccable build quality, I've knocked over computers that were already on the floor and seen worse damage. You deff want a strong CPU and a beast of a video card in this mobo to take advantage of all it's features. Will update this review when I get around to testing SLI on this board.

Cons: Every once in a while I'll get some random power related error on startup but I'm quite sure that has to do with me unplugging my power strip from the wall.

2 out of 5 eggsBoards are not very good

Pros: The MB has alot of great bells and whistles and seems to be a good buy for the buck.

Cons: I am on my 2nd MB the first one was DOA the 2nd one seemed to work until I placed a known working video card in and it didn't want to work while trouble shooting the PCI slot fell off when I tried to put in the video card. Yes you read that correctly fell off WOW what to do now.

Other Thoughts: My suggestion spend a little more and go with a higher quality MB remember you get what you pay for.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z

Pros: Looks good. Runs good if you are lucky to get a good one.

Cons: Long in the tooth.

Other Thoughts: Hi Wesley F. I liked your review. The first two I got were DOA. After about 6 months I decided to try again and got one that booted without problems, but yes, they are slow. So, this is the last of the Mohikans? BTW, I thought that saying was $its on a boar hog.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's Too Late To Turn Back Now!

Pros: It's got LN2 capability. I had some serious issues with the first board I received, but to ASUS's credit, the replacement board I got back APPEARS to be working OK. I bought this board with an AMD FX-9590 processor with liquid cooling, (a Cooler Master AIO rig) When I sent the board back, I didn't replace the stock HS hold-down. They sent me the replacement board without issue. Also I noticed that my first board had the latest BIOS (2201) but the replacement board had the latest 2201 plus it said X64.(2201 X64) Could this be the solution? Since I never saw anything on their website indicating a difference, I don't know.

Cons: It's got LN2 capability For the average user, this about as worthless as breasts on a bull. This is the first motherboard that I have ever gotten that did not work right out the box. (been doing DIY system builds for about 20yrs, off and on) They talk about fast boot. It takes over 2 minutes to boot from power on to windows 7 desktop. It take my 6 year old GIGABYTE MB less than 16 seconds to boot to win 7 desktop. Let me take you thru my boot cycle: Power on, the ROG logo appears, then I get a no signal display on the monitor( a XFX R9-280X video card with an ACER K272HUL monitor) for about 30 to 40 sec, then if I am lucky then the ROG UFEI screen will appear and I can boot from the boot drive.( I use 2 separate SSD's 1 with Win 7 and 1 with Win 8.1) If not then I have to reboot all over again!

Other Thoughts: Since as of this review: 1-4-2016 there will be no more of this MB made.(not confirmed but given the age and state of AMD, I'm pretty sure that will be no more) So would recommend this board to my friends, NOPE. I'm not sure if I could recommend an ASUS board at all. Maybe, since it would appear that all of their resources are being put to Intel and the X99 and beyond At any rate I just wanted to get my 2 cents in.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate your two cents on the ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z. Have you already enabled fastboot in your BIOS settings? Please disable any unnecessary startup programs on the Task Manager for quicker boot times. Again, thanks your feedback on this matter and I will be letting the related department know about the issues you are experiencing for ongoing improvements to our AMD product line. If you need a RMA status with any technical questions or general inquiries you can reach me at cl-nestor@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!
