1 out of 5 eggsSecond bad board

Pros: Great board when it works. Plenty of SATA ports.

Cons: Prone to a known iROG Firmware update loop. Board stops working and requires numerous power cycles to get working. First board worked for 2 months, then stopped working. Second board stopped working less than 2 weeks after installation.

1 out of 5 eggsWant a headache/buy this board

Pros: learning the RMA process

Cons: *with no overclocking whatsoever!.... optimized default settings only!*

Firstboard new from newgg smoked and had to be RMA'd in the first 2 weeks; it came with unbeleaveably greasy fingerprints all over the board and blue tape stuck to the vrm heatsinks and thermal paste stuck just below the cpu socket,

The replacement board worked alright for 4 months then computer froze, and upon reboot a qcode of 10 and will not POST past the CPU initializing,

RMA'D to asus this time, received email saying my serial # was invalid, after talking to 3 different ASUS agents at 3 different times it was determined to
'Ignore that email"!?

It took 3 weeks for to receive the replacement board which they put the wrong address on the shipping label which delayed receiving it by another day,

I was upset they just sent someone elses "refurbished board" which you have no idea what kind of hardship someone else has put that board through and other components can be near death but pass their "refurbished test"

3rd board lasted 2 weeks of use, now it has the most awesome qcode of them all.... F.F. which indicates a dead BIOS... after reflashing BIOS, 24hrs removing all cables hardware, cmos batt, same FF code, all hardware works on another board and confirmed good hardware on this faulty board still displays FF code.

Now have RMA'd this 3rd board for a 4th board within 6 months of ownership, and 2x shipping with insurance....I have no trust in ASUS whatsoever and recommend everyone to forget the red and black asthetics of this board and the red lighs and buy a gigabyte ud3 or asrock fatality

*Edit*---- now onto my 5th board the 4th one they sent through RMA has a Dead Gigabit Lan adapter, yes it was enabled in BIOS
Windows could not locate the hardware to install drivers even after a clean windows install and BIOS reflash.

So I tried the Asus Premium Service advance RMA... they sent me an e-mail an entire week after they said theyd respond saying my credit card was declined and my financial services were to be blamed... and that although all my information was correct to "resubmit my information again" and would not/could not give me a reason as to what was wrong.

A quick call to Mastercard quickly proved them liars attempting to blame anyone but themselves, they didnt even try to put a holding charge on my card as financial institutions keep all records of completed and attempted charges to all accounts.

Now after delaying my RMA for another two weeks they are paying for snail mail by a courier I had to drive out of town to use. Its pretty bad when they have to lie about not having replacement boards ready for shipping due to the overly abundent amount of RMA'd formula z boards.

so seven months into owning this board I am now on my 5th board with 2 onths of practical use.

Other Thoughts: Other Thoughts: you should be scared of the fact that these boards do not come sealed in any sort of box security tape at all, no plastic wrap, no flap sealing of any kind and even worse these are shipped with no anti electrostatic discharge bag at all.

no protection from ESD and no protection from anyone having previously opening these boxes and using the board before you receive it.

dont listen to the positive reviews left by 15 year old kids who owned it for 3 days and rave about how pro it is, or that because they watched you tube that they have a max egg tech level, you will be surly dissapointed

By The Way... where's my manufacturers response with a help ticket#?....

I see they give them out like candy to those who give positive reviews with no issues to report at all...!?

why give ticket #'s to people with no problems... huh...?

1 out of 5 eggsCustomer Support is Punitive

Pros: Nice mobo

Cons: Customer Support is really really bad. This mobo started flashing error codes 78 and 66. I did a lot of research and was unsuccessful in fixing the problem. I contacted Asus customer service and we ran through some diagnostics and we all agreed I should send the board in. Then the problems started. Asus puts a tiny sticker on the board that had the serial #. My sticker was slightly torn. Asus initially refused to take the product for repair and then reluctantly took the board. They wanted to charge me $120 to "reserialize" the board then charge for out of warranty repairs (after re-certifying the product) and then the final kicker, charge me shipping an unauthorized product back. This is my 4th Asus board and I'll never buy one again after going through this. Buyer beware, that little sticker had better be in pristine condition or Asus will essentially tell you to jump in a lake.

Other Thoughts: I'm looking forward to buying non Asus products in the future. Not because of what is right (and they make a nice product) but because when something goes wrong they are very difficult to deal with.

3 out of 5 eggswell .......

Pros: clean layout, good looks

Cons: cons they ask, were to start.

had this board less then a week, and the bios kept dropping out of it. Usb port would randomly shut off or stop working reboot, they would work fine, then a restart back to working and then not working.
Bios drop out, have no clue as to why.

memory slot one bad one, i think. memory 1 chip went bad in this board in less then a week.

Other Thoughts: dont know, but i do think that asus gives your mother board a bag, and not just dropped in the box. my older 880fx was baged, and boxed. this one, just the box it was set in. more like a clam shell ...I dont get it ....
Oh well, could of been a good board, but will never know, week late started having issue`s .. newegg is refunding on this one., so 3 eggs, is due to the board not newegg ...

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the money!

Pros: Has all kinds of lights and switches, just like the computers on old TV shows. The thing is, they all do something cool like jump you directly from Windows into BIOS setup, or show you something cool, like the 2-digit hex code from the BIOS during boot. It also has numerous little LEDs that give hardware status info when you can't boot.

Plus, it has THREE connectors for temp sensors (I actually use all 3). Each one can be programmed in the BIOS individually to halt the system if the temp exceeds whatever value you set.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Check out the 2,400 MHz memory support and the zillions of BIOS options, and the button that changes the BIOS settings to a different profile while the system is running, and...

Cons: Too many 16x slots. I don't want to do 4-way SLI. In fact, I never played a 3D game except Second Life. Everything else involves killing people. What is it with guys, anyway?

Also, the Asus utility software su cks, just like it always has. Don't install anything but the drivers, and immediately update them.

Other Thoughts: Buy this board. It will be a loooong time until someone comes out with a better one. In fact, I can't see how you could possibly add any features.

4 out of 5 eggsSet the standard for what I want in the next motherboard

Pros: This board is packed with features, tons of ports for all your possible needs and looks cool too.

- RELIABLE!!! I have never once had the board fail to post with any of my hardware. It has fired up correctly every time, never blue screened on me.

- More connections then I can use, which is great. I see many other boards out there with few USB slots, and not a whole lot of header options. This board had everything I needed and then some.

- Easy BIOS flash update steps. I was able to update the BIOS really smooth with the ASUS EZ Flash tool. There is always the risk you could brick your board, but with the ASUS steps I wasn't to concerned.

- Easy to install after market coolers for your CPU on this board. There are plenty of additional fan headers for case fans or water block setups. I use a Corsair H60. My board rarely surpasses 27C, and the CPU has only broken the 40C temp threshold one time with this setup. I highly recommend it.

Cons: Side angled SATA ports. I have had issues where they will just stop seeing a device at random. Never the primary drive. Nothing moved inside the case, or touched but if I reseat the sata cable the secondary drive will come back online.

All board makers are doing this now though mostly. I cant stand it as a technician, it makes it hard to add and remove new sata items once the board is mounted in the case. It also can place unnecessary stress on the sata connectors because of the bent angles at which they plugin and the cables are forced to be routed depending on varying cases. My only suggestion to make this a 5 star board is to make all the sata ports forward facing just like the were originally.

No PCI Express 3.0 slots.

Other Thoughts: I have been an owner of ASUS products for years. I have had ROG laptops and Video Cards, and this motherboard like every product I purchased from ASUS before it was stellar in performance and met all my expectations.

I am about to jump to the i7 for my next upgrade from my current FX8350. This board set a high standard for me going forward. I am very torn on what the next motherboard I get will be, I am debating between 3 and sadly most Intel boards don't pack as many features as this AMD chipset board.

My setup, never had any problems, and the board has never once failed to boot everything first time!
