3 out of 5 eggsOnboard sound doesn't work

Pros: Board immediately posted, everything works fine with the exception of the onboard sound. As I have sound from another source, I haven't RMA'd it yet as I don't want to take my entire computer apart and wait for a replacement, but it's a bit annoying that it doesn't work. I understand defects happen, which is why I gave it 3 eggs, but it's still frustrating nonetheless :)

Cons: Onboard sound does not work.

Other Thoughts: Other than the sound issue, I am happy with this board.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the audio doesn't work on the board. Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and updating them. Here is a link below. Make sure you select which OS you have installed.

5 out of 5 eggsNewegg error

Pros: Newegg page for the P8Z77-V Deluxe has the headline "A newer version of this board is available." That is WRONG. Newegg shows the ASUS Maximus V FORMULA LGA as the 'new board.' However, it is an Extended ATX form factor so it will NOT FIT in an ATX case. The Maximus is not a replacement for the Deluxe.

Cons: Install the WIFI card before mounting the motherboard in a case so you have access to one of the screws.

Other Thoughts: Excellent board free of defects.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome board

Pros: Love, love, love this board. It was a toss up for me on which board to get, and I am happy with this purchase. Plenty of USB's, Plenty of SATA, great features. Just awesome.

Cons: None....this is one of the best boards I have worked with.

Other Thoughts: Worth the money if you are looking for a solid board to build a solid gaming system with or a solid video editor machine.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellence Again

Pros: tons of features, quality build, excellent UEFI BIOS.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is a quality ASUS MB. I've tried Gigbyte and MSI boards, they just never compare. You will not be disappointed with this board. I used this for my gaming rig and it is screaming fast!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Board does all I ask of it. I love all remote control features. BIOS updates are seamless and easy. ASUS support has never let me down. A past Z68 board had an issue, ASUS sent me replacement from Indiana in a week. Onboard sound is great, even if it isn't some ROG featured sound option.

Cons: I have no complaints with this board. I love its esthetics, the feature set and how well it works when its time to update a BIOS. One flaw I can tell you is that the FAN EXPERT 2 doesn't work well at all. I don't use it, as I use a hardware based controller. So that is not a complaint for me. But is a flaw in the feature set package.

Other Thoughts: Be sure to mount all accessory boards (except GPU cards)on MB before installing into case. Makes things much easier. If I could have one thing added to future Deluxe boards, it would be the GPU hook ups for voltage and such that the ROG cards have. I understand I could buy a ROG card to get them along with a slew of other features, but I am just asking for this feature. I have a two GTX680 cards from ASUS that have the solder joints, but the MB doesn't. I think this would help brand loyalty with ASUS MB or GPU users stick with the ASUS products. I purchased this MB over the ROG because it has the Remote features I need more than the ROG boards have. ....And I prefer blue over red color schemes.

1 out of 5 eggsDied After 2 Months

Pros: Nice feature set. Easy to install. Easy to setup.

Cons: Just short of 3 months of use and this motherboard refused to permit access to BIOS nor to boot to any device. ASUS authorized cross-ship replacement.

It's been 3 weeks since cross-ship RMA was approved, and I'm still waiting for the replacement motherboard to arrive. This is my primary PC and used for business, which is what finally convinced ASUS to OK the cross-ship.

Thank goodness for my old HP unit and a Rosewell eSATA dock.

Other Thoughts: I read a review for a motherboard from another vendor. The reviewer complained that his cross-ship took a week. That was lightning fast in comparison to ASUS.

Adding insult to the fact that the board managed to function for less than 3 months, obtaining an RMA from ASUS is the worst I've ever experienced. I've received RMA merchandise from HP and Dell within 24-48 hours. It took 3 business days just to receive the form (via email) which I had to FAX back to ASUS. After faxing, I called ASUS and was told it would be 48 hours before someone BEGAN to process the form. 2 days after the 48 hours expired, I was told that the form had just completed processing and a replacement usually ships within 48 hours of completion. I was told the same thing the next day, and two days after that.

Since then, I've been checking with ASUS daily to see if the replacement board has shipped. Every day I'm given a different story. I've been told that there is no way to tell when a replacement might ship; that it should ship within 48 hours (the default timeframe for every question); that the paperwork "just" completed (3 different days). However, the BEST response I received to my “Has it shipped” question came today. Today I was told, "the person who handles your board has left for the day." REALLY?? There is only one person in all of ASUS who handles replacing this nearly $300 board?? If that person isn't available, there is no way to check on status?? The response: “that is correct.” UGH!!

Lesson learned - DO NOT BUY ANYTHING from ASUS if you EVER think you may need to make use of the warranty. If you understand that when it breaks (again mine lasted less than 3 months), you will need to buy another one, then go ahead and purchase. They do have a nice feature set and come in a cool box.

For those who decide to go ahead and try their luck, as well as those who have provided positive reviews concerning this (or any other) ASUS motherboard > I wish you the best of luck and pray you never need to experience the ASUS disaster of an RMA process.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I hope you have already received your replacement unit already and everything is working properly.

If you don't know where to return your defective unit, you can email me at cl-jeffrey@asus.com so I can provide that information to you.

If your issue has been resolved already, please disregard this response.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for 2 weeks - then doesn't POST!

Pros: Lots of features

Cons: Worked for 2 weeks after build (34 days after shipping) Now gets Q-CODE 20 and doesn't POST. 4 Days beyond Newegg return/exchange policy. Manual doesn't list Q-CODE 20... Need to return or take a chance on an exchange.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

If you are still under the return policy with newegg, I suggest you return the unit for an exchange. If you are pass the return policy then you will have to send the unit in for service. You can go to service.asus.com to get an RMA number to authorize the repair of your unit.

1 out of 5 eggsBoard Dead less than 3 Months

Pros: Decent price; easy to install; That's about it.

Cons: Motherboard died after just under 3 months of moderate use. Took 4 chat sessions, 2 phone calls, and half a day to finally get agreement from ASUS to cros-ship a replacement board. Still waiting after 1 week for replacement to arrive. Called Asus totay and was told that there is no one who can tell me if a replacement has even shipped, yet. However, a replacement usually ships within 48 hours of cross-ship credit card verification. Earlier I was told that such verification takes 48 hours. That was after waiting 24 hours to receive the initial email with the RMA form which had to be FAXED in to ASUS. Really??? FAX it in???

Other Thoughts: After each of my 7 chat sessions with ASUS (yes, 7 because the sessions timed out while the tech was "distracted" - his explanation not my word - or looking something up), I was presented with a short survey concerning my opinion of the session. The survey ended by asking if I would recommend ASUS to a friend. My answer: I won't recommend ASUS to my worst enemy, let alone a friend.

Thank goodness this board was for personal use and not for a client. I'd be fired if a client had to wait a couple of weeks for a replacement motherboard.

My recommendation - AVOID ANYTHING FROM ASUS - unless you can live without the item for at least 2 weeks (cross-ship) or 3-4 weeks normal warranty repair. If that waiting period length and poor quality control is fine with you, then Asus might be OK for you. Prices are a little less than some competitors.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the xship process is taking awhile. Once you see that the charges have been made to your credit card then the 48 hours excluding weekends will take effect.

Please provide me with your RMA number and serial number so I can check the status for you.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Plenty of I/O ports
Runs cool
USB3.0
USB 2.0
SATA 3 ports galore
On board trouble codes
USB Bios Flashback/forward
One switch OC
WiFi
This was a new build, that went perfect. No issues with the board at all. POST first power up, loaded WIN 8, drivers, apps. Can't speak of reliability yet, but, have no reason to be concerned yet. Get the Bios Flashback renamed utility from ASUS website. I used flashback on initial standby power before first power up so I don't know if it shipped with 1805 version or not. I'm getting WIN8 performance scores of 7.8. My Garrick's card is holding the ratings down as the other individual areas are 8.2 @ 4.2 MHz. My Corsair H50 water cooler is keeping the CPU temp at 27C at idle and 30 under load. All in all, great features, perfect build experience. This is a great board!

Cons: More precise instructions on USB BIOS Flashback in one place. YouTube has some helpful videos.

Other Thoughts: I was somewhat concerned when I bought this board because of some of the reviews, but, after installing this board, I think some issues were due to not doing research on compatibility and procedures. Go to the Asus forums and learn about mistakes others have made and you will have no issues with this board!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: Has everything you could ever need, except firewire, which is getting outdated anyway.

I rolled the dice on this board because I gave more weight to the good reviews than the bad, and I am glad I did! Everything works great.

A quick comment about the RAM issues. The installation instructions have a pretty specific recommendation of which DDR headers to use when you are only using two sticks of memory. The recommendation seemed counter-intuitive to me, but I followed the instructions and everything works. I'm just saying, had I not read the instructions, I would have used a different pair of headers out of the 4. I'm not sure why it would matter, but maybe that's why some people have had some trouble with the RAM.

H60 water cooler fits just fine. Comes close to the ram, but it fits!

Cons: Make sure you install the WIFI card before mounting the motherboard in a case. There is a screw that can only be installed from the backside. The instructions have the wifi card installation instructions AFTER the motherboard mounting. Which is dumb. Luckily, I had already read about that issue in other reviews. Thanks fellow builders!!!!

Other Thoughts: My limited knowledge of overclocking makes me dangerous to this hardware. I have an unlocked i5-3570K, but I haven't been brave enough to mess with the robust bios yet.....wish me luck
