1 out of 5 eggsAnother Terrible ASUS Product

Pros: The BIOS was easy to use when they worked.

Cons: I bought three of these for workstations and of the three two are dead and the other is on it's way. I should have went with another manufacturer and never bothered with these. This is the second time I've purchased an ASUS product only to have to replace it with something better a year later.

Other Thoughts: I will no longer consider buying ASUS products. They're not worth the hassle if you need to worry if their products are going to last beyond a year.

1 out of 5 eggsWhere is the ASUS support

Pros: Bought this MB b/c of the IDE port as a way to save the old but working IDE drives. XP (32bit) was installed on a SSD and boot time was very fast. All drives (1 SSD, 2 IDEs, and DVD) were recognized in Windows and I was able to copy some files over to the SSD.

Installation went smoothly until installing the drivers from the included CD...

Cons: My 2 IDE drives disappeared from the Windows device manager after installed all drivers from the included CD. Tried to google online but haven't found a fix. Then, called ASUS's support number from the manual (same one as on their website) - "The number you are calling have been disconnected". WHAT! Tried the email to open a case number and received reply - "Please contact the appropriate support team for assistance..." with the same number. WHAT!

Other Thoughts: This is my 2nd ASUS motherboard. My 1st one was P4 and died after 8 years of low use and never had to call them. I found this one that has the IDE port. I thought that I could save my 2 HDs and give ASUS another try. I still hope that they will call me and fix my problem. Until then, right now it is 1 star.

4 out of 5 eggsInteresting motherboard, a few niggling annoyances

Pros: The board is generally well thought out. I prefer how this and most 1155 boards keep the chipset well away from the processor and graphics card, unlike my several AM3 boards.
Has a great selection of connection options, I particularly like the PS2 support which has gone missing in so many current offers, good news for my IBM model M.
LOVE the front panel connector, no more flashlight and tweezers for setting up.
Had a problem with 1 board, and Asus tech suport quickly set me up with a replacement, ah the luxury of being a medium volume customer.
Allowing 4 dimms is excellent, many m-ATX only offering 2 at this price (Sweden)

Cons: Absolutely hate the dimm connector latches. Have had numerous blue screens due to ram because the lower catch was not situated properly. Things work fine until I would transport to the customer an then nothing but problems. Utterly embarrassing for me, and costs me business. In fact, oweing to this I have changed to Gigabyte boards.
Be sure to press the dimm in at the bottom, even if you angle the ram in, you will feel the notch engage the dimm cutout.
Also, I would gladly trade three of the usb2.0-fpc for 1 USB 3.0

Other Thoughts: Could be a great board, but please Asus, no more fixed lower detents. It is enough that I personally will steer away from this company in the future.

4 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: See no reliability problems others have complained of

Cons: needs another PWM fan header and eSATA & USB3.0 internal headers.
Don't like front-edge-facing SATA plugs

Other Thoughts: get rid of legacy ATA133 connector

4 out of 5 eggsNice microatx board for HTPC

Pros: Paired with i3-2120 and fanless cooler. Running great for several months in my silent HTPC, stock BIOS. Liked the fan profiles in UEFI BIOS, very configurable!

Cons: Intel Win7 integrated video drivers were hosed for HDMI-out for months; but fixed in recent versions.

Other Thoughts: Due to non-removable CPU plate, had to mod my Silverstone NT01-E cooler backplate to fit, but it did and cools fine; tools needed: 1/8" drill to make holes in cooler retention backplate for motherboard rivets, nylon washers for spacers. Wasn't a big deal, really.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Good board w/ built in graphics. - No complaints

Cons: Been running great for almost a year?

Other Thoughts: I bought this board prior to the Sandy Bridge recall. Was disheartened to see the recall. Had to disassemble /reassemble sytem to replace MB following recall. That was frustrating but NewEgg was great. The only issues I have had were as follows:
WD USB 3.0 external drive would not turn off if plugged into USB 3.0 port but works fine in USB 2.0 port - Unknown if issue is Asus or WD's.
Occassionally when system ges to sleep, the mouse id not avtive upon wake up to click on the icon to re-enter Windows - Is this an Asus or a MS issue? (MS OS & wireless/kb/mouse with received plugged into a hub instead of directly to MB.
I got the i5-2500K because of the better graphics capability, not that much more than the locked version. even though MB doesn't allow OC, the grpahics was waht did it. Running RAID 1
Future upgrades, dedicated graphics card, SSD

1 out of 5 eggsCan't Get it Started

Pros: Don't know.

Cons: I have not been able to get the computer to start once. The first board I had turned out to have memory that was not on the approved list. After replacing the memory to something on the approved list it still did not work. When you hit the power button nothing happens. After three RMA's with ASUS and them sending me the same board when they said they would replace it, I bought another one to see if that would fix it. Same issue. I replaced the CPU to see if that was the problem and same issue. This board is not worth the time or money.

1 out of 5 eggsnot for overclockers

Pros: It's $25 cheaper than when it first came out?
OK board if you're not overclocking

Cons: Awful bios - worst I've ever seen for a board in this price range.

unstable when overclocked

Other Thoughts: Spend an extra $45 and buy the Asus Maximus ROG Gene-Z you won't regret it. It's everything this board should of been and more.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. We hope the new board works fine for you.

Regards
ASUS Customer Support
