5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 3+ years, rock solid. Excellent board great bios and overclocking / over voltage options for even advanced users. one of the few AMD / Nvidia combos when i bought it, and the integrated 8300 / paired with my GTX 280 works great. Matrox triplehead2go on a 3600x1280.

Cons: absolutely nothing.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat system

Pros: Asus quality, 8300 graphics, have owned for almost 3 yrs with nothing to complain about, considering upgrading to Phenom II e something

Cons: wish it had some kind of fan controller, but no MB had this at the time

Other Thoughts: Using with Athlon II 5050e 45W, Freezer Pro cooler and no graphics card, I got a new intel i5 2500k system and I am tuning this into my HTPC

5 out of 5 eggshigh quality rare board

Pros: top quality mGPU 8300 chipset, ASUS quality, friendly BIOS, AM2+ cpu compatibility incl. higher wattage chips, runs win 7 (64-bit) flawlessly and options (functionality)

Cons: no hybrid SLI in win 7 from what I can tell, was researching until I decided on stronger dedicated dual slot gfx card, don't care now.
no others at this time, I was looking for this board in particular knowing it was mATX form

Other Thoughts: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition (3.0GHz) Deneb

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent with Debian Lenny/MythTV

Pros: All the features one would need for a MythTV box. Video and audio go out through HDMI to my Onkyo receiver. No complaints. It plays ISO DVD images beautifully. The audio sounds great through HDMI.

Cons: The PATA connector is a right-angle and in my enclosure is difficult to access. At boot, like most boards, it spends a lot of time in the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: After installing a base of Lenny w/Gnome and the latest/greatest Nvida driver, I built and installed MythTV from the lastest stable source. I had to mess with the audio to get both MP3/44.1KHz and AC3/48KHz working through HDMI. For AC3/48KHz through HDMI the device is 'ALSA:hw:03' and for MP3/FLAC/44.1KHz it's 'ALSA:plughw:03'. You can send it to the SPDI/F by changing the '03' to '01'. I'm still working on geting the HD-DVD and BD images to play but this has nothing to do with the hardware.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS M3N78-EM

Pros: It worked with Ubuntu 9.04 out of the box . Onboard video and sound worked right away .( Did manually select Nvidia drivers durning install ). Had no problems with lan . I flashed to newest bios right off . Linux has come a long upgrading and installing aps is much easier . Not quit one click but pretty close just have to add to repository list and then search for app .

Cons: Sound volume is pretty low , but it going to get amped anyway .

Other Thoughts: I am able to stream Hulu , Mlbtv (in Hd) , use pandora and other tv streams . Have not got blue Ray to work ( havent tried yet ) .Plays regular DVD's no problem. Not able to use Netflix instant play either . There are ways to get blue ray and net flix but not supported ways.

3 out of 5 eggsLove Asus but...

Pros: Great ASUS product, will run a AMD Phenom II X4 810 2.6GHz Socket AM3, solid performance except... (see cons)

Cons: Had an IRQ conflict on the on-board NIC, created a huge headache in Vista 64 trying to narrow down what was causing the BSOD.

Other Thoughts: Don't know who ultimately to blame for the resource conflict (Windows or ASUS) but you would expect built in devices to work "out of the box". This is my second ASUS motherboards in the last 3 years to have on-board NIC issues. But... can't say it'll stop me from buying ASUS motherboards.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with some limitations

Pros: Has everything you want on one board; although I did eventually buy a 9 series video card because I found myself playing more graphic intensive games that required more power then the 8300 onboard could handle; great for a HTPC setup.

Cons: BIOS/Chipset has some limitations. Two SATA ports on the board (black color) can only be used in AHCI or RAID. This is not really an issue as it may be preferable to run all the SATA drives in AHCI. However, if you want to setup drives individually in either IDE, AHCI, or RAID you CAN NOT. The bios only lets you choose one option for ALL the SATA ports. If you choose RAID you will be prompted (F10) to set up the ARRAY and for those SATA devices that do not need RAID you can simply exclude them from the ARRAY, but they are still controlled under RAID mode, of course without any performance or redundancy features since you are not pairing it with other drives. This is not a big problem if you choose one of these three options and stick to it BEFORE you install the OS. If you switch aftwards you MAY need to reiinstall the OS.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Buy

Pros: This Motherboard seems to have all the connections you could need. Its layout is intuitive and its easy to set up . The Bios was very easy to configure. It has support for phenom II AMD3 chips and supports 1066 speed ram .

Cons: It doesn't have a front firewire port , and you will more than likely want to get a real sound card . I was very disappointed in the onboard sound , But It was not a surprise . I have never been satisfied with on board sound , The on board video however has been very satisfying to me and my needs at present , I however have not thrown at it a current heavy hitter game , But it runs all my 3d library flawless on high settings . I think its a great deal to support the new AMD chips and faster ram

Other Thoughts: A great value ! Good construction .

5 out of 5 eggsA great mobo

Pros: This mobo has been working great for my HTPC build. It plays 720p video on my 32" TV great with the open source FFmpeg codec. Having the built in HDMI slot was a must for the HTPC, so that's a great feature as well.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Contains an IDE slot if you need to connect a legacy CD/DVD drive.
