2 out of 5 eggsdisappointing

Pros: great board for overclocking

Cons: 1st board blew out after 2 months something to do with the ram slots.. 2nd board ran great until either my video cards smoked the board or the board smoked the video cards.. poor layout you lose 2 top slots, one for the heat sink and one for the "on board sound" and when running tri sli the bottom card hangs down off the bottom slot on my case anyways a lian li 343b.. im done with this board.. picked up a supercomputer board to support what i need..

Other Thoughts: you pay almost 400 dollars for a motherboard you expect perfection this was far from it.. ive always used asus always been great boards but the last year or 2 has been a bad nightmare. i went with asus again for the supercomputer board so lets hope its not near as bad as this experience was with the rampage. i gave it 2 eggs as if your a overclocking junkie this is the board for you.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet Mobo

Pros: So far so good. I don't have the issues that some of you other guys seem to have with this board. My pins were all the way they were supposed to be, my ram slots work (or at least the 3 I'm using, since I really have no intentions to go over 6gb of RAMS. Sound card worked. I really like the LED poster, very nice to see what's going on, over the beeps. Also, another cool thing that I didn't think about before, but the way the board is setup, it makes sure the PCI-E cards will all be upside down, which means the only dust that gets inside of your graphics cards is the dust circulating in the air below it (which minimizes the dust in your high-end graphics cards). LEDs on the mobo are cool looking, since I have a see-through panel on my case. I haven't had a chance to mess around with the OC features, but I'm sure it works similar to the rest of the board. It also comes with 3 leads to monitor heat of whatever theyre attached to which shows up the LED poster as well.

Cons: Pricey...but you pay for what you get. I wasn't sure if I should put this in the cons or not, but the board is slightly larger than the standard, which shouldnt be an issue in most cases. However my case has cable management through the back, and heat partitions, which assumes the board will follow the standard. Since mine does not, its kind of a tight fit. My heat partition for the PCI-E area doesn't go in, because it needs to seat itself around the side of the mobo, which the mobo covers the whole its supposed to go into. Also, the cable management slots are slightly covered, so in order to get some of the larger cables in and out, I need to loosen my board. Not really a big deal, especially if you don't have my case, however even if you do, it's quite manageable. I'm probably going to file down the partition to make it fit into place

Other Thoughts: I bought this as part of a set for a new rig:
Thermaltake Spedo Advance
Intel i7 930 processor (with stock heatsink)
Asus Rampage II Mobo
OCZ Gold DDR3 1600 2GBx3Sticks
850w Corsair Modular ATX PSU
WD 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive
Nvidia GT240 (Until my Sapphire 4870x2 comes back from RMA)
Windows 7 Home Edition
And the only thing I didn't buy was a DVD drive, since I just took my lightscribe DVD burner from my old machine

3 out of 5 eggsLot's of features, but one big flaw

Pros: Solid, I like all the little things ASUS put into this board, they have thought of just about everything...

Cons: Except the PCI express slots, they miss aligned the slots so that the first expansion slot on you're case is unusable.
the X-fi takes up a second. the vast majority of cases have seven expansion slots. So if you run a three way SLI setup, the last card won't fit! be careful which case you buy/use, or forgo the three way SLI.

Other Thoughts: This is only a problem if you plan on using SLI, or cross fire, and you have a smaller case. Other than that, I love it. I am using an Antec nine hundred 2 case that has eight expansion slots, so I'm fine with it.

4 out of 5 eggs3 Times A Charm Follow Up

Pros: In case you missed the message in all my ramblings and misspelled words........

Cons: BEWARE OF BENT PINS IN THE CPU SOCKET, NEW OUT OF BOX, DURING CPU INSTALLATION, INSTALLING AFTERMARKET HEATSINK, MEMORY PROBLEMS, BOOTING PROBLEMS, VERY DELICATE PINS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SOCKET COULD BE THE ANSWER.

Other Thoughts: Hope this helps someone out there, I know of the hundreds of machines I have configured, I have never had this issue, especially when installing an aftermarket heatsink, will squeeze the pins and create ram and who knows what else problems. How many of the posts below were after or during an after market heatsink install?

4 out of 5 eggsThree times a Charm/Aftmkt Heatsinks "Attention"

Pros: Wow what can I say, great board, plenty of toys, that we all like, thats why we bye it. Hey I even bought 3 after the first two had issues(well rma'd), but why not change, chasing the dream(under 400 dollar dream anyways)Once fully functional ASUS is always exceeds my expectations. Ive been doing this since the P2B, a masterpiece for that time. There are so many post and forums with the same issues, its not right ASUS should be slapped, We depend o them for the best, not the most fragile, I mean i barely touched the pins, and all hell broke loose. Please read on......

Cons: ATTENTION, why Oh why, did they make the socket pins so fragile, Never had any problems with 775 sockets, OKay in a nutshell, When adding an aftermarket heatsink if you barely overtighten, you will loose 1 or 2 or maybe even 3 sticks of ram(I use crucial tracers with the leds really easy to see solid light that dont move upon boot) The first board i got I never checked the pins(ALWAYS SHOULD) I installed a 920 and my silverstone NT06E and 2 bank of ram was not funtioning. Of course changed the stick same with every stuck I put in there.RMA'd. Second board this time a used the intel fan, Houston all system are go, now the reason I didnt put the NT06E on was cuz i was waiting for Corsair H50, it arrives a set it up and all is running fine. 2 Days later get a great deal on a 975x, Remove 920 chip, ever so gently slide in 975(slide is where i messed up)should of laid the case flat out, If have installed several 775 and other sockets with tilting the case a bit and puttng the chip in.

Other Thoughts: So I boot and all three bank of ram have solid lit leds and computer wont post, of soure Im thinking its the CPU, so would you! So i put the 920 back in same thing, well after making up some new words not fit for print, I walk away come back later to figure what went wrong, well that didnt help, so of course the only thing changed was the cpu,but now the old cpu wont work either. And then like a bolt of lightning,I had a thought,I took out the H50 heatsink, and ran it without it still no post,so then i took out the chip, and inspected the Socket with 2 pair of 150x cheater reading glasses and behold there were messed up pins.To test my theory, I got a razor blade and very carefully tried to bend them back. Cpu back in boot, and i get 2 sticks of ram working.Good enough RMA'd it got another and was very carful with this one,and all works well.MORAL of the story, they just dont build them like they used too. SHame on Asus for not warning of this, and whats with the bottom pins going sideways?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board/Looks Killer

Pros: Awesome looking board. POST with no problems. Even read HD with OS on it that the old board used. Astounding quality.

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: Great enthusiast board. This is for my wife and she does not even overclock but can go to the moon if she wants to.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS Rampage II Extreme

Pros: I have had this ASUS Product for about 4 months now and I have nothing bad to report. I dont overclock (as of yet) and have had no problems at all. I buy the rog boards becouse of there reliability factor and have never been dissapointed. It boots and works. the software that is included was not used but instead I downloaded the newest from asus web site and works flawlessly. I also have the R.O.G. station to go with it and that works for built in control of the boards many many features. I use this board for gaming and video editing as well as many other fun things related to computers.

Cons: the video card slots are just too close together for me to run both my sapphire radion HD 4890 2g vapor-x cards I can only run one. as well the sound card that came with does not do justice, so it was replaced with a
ASUS xonar D2X that had to be put on the lower PCI ex slot becouse nothing longer than the original creative card will fit. this kinda works out becouse the 4890 video card does not allow for a straight in fit for the audio card, they hit each other. I suggest that before getting this board plan and measure all your components first it is a great board and works exceptionally well.

Other Thoughts: In my humble opinion, If you like quality and relyability than this is a great board, some of the issues can be worked around with some research, as i have done, I will be adding 2 new 5870 2g asus video cards on the way, should fix the 2 card issue since the sapphire vapor-x cooling is the problem with fit (heat sinks on card are the real issue) other than this issue i moved the sound card to the very bottom PCI express slot and have the begining of a monster PC.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing board

Pros: Excellent overclocking ability, a lot of options in the BIOS, I haven't had a single problem with this board yet, using it with OCZ XMP series DDR3-1600.

Cons: Can't really think of any, I wasn't able to use the Q connectors because I have a radiator overhanging the motherboard, but that's not a con, they're in standard locations. You can still plug the headers into the motherboard directly like normal.

Other Thoughts: This board is amazing, I have had no problems with it, and I highly recommend it if you can afford to buy it. I got 4GHz easy on a C0 i7 (wish I had a D0), everything is rock solid at relatively low voltages.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 3 months!

Pros: Great board when it worked.

Cons: I may have got a defective board from the get go, because randomly my PC would freeze, and I would have to reboot. I replaced my PSU, my RAM, and basically tried all new hardware with this board just to make sure the problem wasn't anything else - it's the board.

Standby lights start, but it doesn't boot at all when I press power, flashes a couple times, dies, and repeats.

$350 dollars for 3 months and then dead? Unacceptable! I wasn't even overclocking this board hard.
