Asus's ROG series motherboards have an unparalleled reputation within the overclocking community and their Rampage II Extreme motherboard is the next step. Based on Intel's X58 Express and ICH10R chipsets, this ATX board is ready to host the newest LGA1366 Core i7 processors for ultimate powerful performance.
Up to 12GB of DDR3 1333 RAM can be installed in triple channel mode providing increased performance. Get even more performance – up to 1800Mhz – through overclocking. Three PCI-Express 2.0 x16 cards can be mounted for cutting-edge graphic power with support for either NVIDIA SLI or ATI CrossFireX. 100% all high-quality conductive polymer capacitors give longer life and higher energy efficiency by supplying power to vital components independently.
Get eight channels of HD sound from the ADI AD2000B audio chipset for pure, clear audio. Connect up to six SATA drives at 3Gb/s for high-speed data transfers as well as the option for multiple RAID configurations. Integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN allows bottleneck-free connections to other network devices at broadband speeds and six USB 2.0 ports allows for nearly unlimited possibilities in connecting peripheral devices.

Very Nice Board
- Pros: High performance and mostly trouble free motherboard
-Very smooth overclocking -Working eSATA -Mostly clean and open layout (GPUs may be an issue) -Stable
- Cons: Cold boot issues. Most people seem to agree it's PSU related--if you get the cold boot issue, you can boot by powercycling your PSU--a simple work around is to turn off your PSU when you shut down your computer. This would be a last ditch effort versus finding a PSU which plays better with this Mobo and troubleshooting things like reseating the power to the Mobo and what not.
Soundcard included was DoA--but I was planning on a separate soundcard anyway, so I'm not too bothered.
- Other Thoughts: Lowest PCIE x16 slot is really low, so some cases may not be able to accommodate a Graphics card in that slot--choose your case carefully. The heatsink next to the highest PCIE x 16 slot can also block a graphics card, but you can get aftermarket replacements or remove the last row of tines to get one in.

Solid board
- Pros: This board is rock solid. With the last 2 bios releases, the board fully supports the W35X0 Xeon i7. The bios also allows for selecting the x21 multi without being forced to run SpeedStep (EIST and C1E).
- Cons: Currently running air cooling with a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (TRUE).
Note: I got this board as an Open Box and have not had a single issue with it. I have owned the board since May 2009, so it has been running for a few months now.
- Other Thoughts: The board is pushing my Xeon W3520 (i7 920 D0 equiv) to 4.2GHz with HT enabled and my 3x2Gb G.Skill 2000 Trident at DDR3 1611 6-7-6-18 1T. It does so with 1.288v vcore, 1.26v QPI and 1.59v vdimm.

Difficult Install, but smooth sailing now (knock on wood)
- Pros: Fast stable overclocking MB.
- Cons: The sound card that's included is total sh*t, could not get it to work at all. Other installation issues were numerous. This was by far the most difficult build I've had.
- Other Thoughts: I like pizza.

- Pros: to many options to list from lighted io shield to the bios options. crazy overclock 4.8 on water prime good
- Cons: using 3 way sli with gtx 260 covers edge of board usb and fire wire inacesable and cmos jumpers huge inconvience as well

3rd board just died
- Pros: The hardware and BIOS features of this board are tons of fun and, when they work, they work very well.
- Cons: My 3rd board just died. The first had a bad memory slot issue, the second had a strange CPU mounting issue that would not allow the cooler to sit tight against the CPU (causing it to run hot) I actually had to remove the CPU mounting clamp and use the screws on the cooler to hold the CPU in place. After several months of, fairly uneventful operation the board died. Asus RMAd it. That RMA'd board just died this week with identical symptoms to the first board.
- Other Thoughts: Seems like Asus's QA has started to falter, their RMA process for the ROG boards is great, but their customer support staff is not always friendly and helpful. Seems like you are bothering them or something.
