4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Easy to set up. Easy to overclock.

Cons: GPU gets a little too hot so we installed a fan on it. Have not been able to get HDCP handshake to work.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Freezing P5N7A-VA Motherboard

Pros: None - Can't get it to work.

Cons: Freezes after it warms up. Keyboard and cursor freezes. It happens again within five minutes after startup.

Background: I purchased this motherboard back in May of 2009 because of the integrated NVidia graphics with CUDA. This was to replace a dead HP board in HP a6152n PC. I had a local "computer guru" install the MB. After a month, he returned it to me. It froze as described above. I sent it back. After another two months, where he tried his own memory, he replaced the board, and everything he could think of, he returned it to me still freezing. I wasn't about to return it to him as he still charged me for an nonfunctional machine.

Last week, I took a friends advice and started it up, without the side cover in order to get maximum cooling. All fans are running. I even set up a fan blowing into the open side. The freezes happened as described above.

If Asus Tech support still monitors this list, I'd sure like to talk to them about doing an RMA.

Other Thoughts: Maybe this is an age of board issue? It looks like the reviews of boards installed more recently - in 2010 or so - seem to be working better? I don't know.

If I can't return the board, I guess I'm stuck with purchasing a new one, after sinking a bunch of $$ in this machine.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: No issues with built in adapters,

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I did not test the HDMI port. Placed in a build that included an Intel Q8400 quad core, Gskill DDR2 2x2gb memory, Antec BP430 power supply, and an Asus Sata 24B1ST DVD drive. Loaded Ubuntu 10.10 64bit OS. No driver issues flawless, quick build.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost ideal

Pros: 6 (3*2) USB headers, serial header, parallel header, HDMI output, and a great NVidia chip onboard - it's now working as a MythTV-based HTPC in an nMedia 5000 case.

Cons: Of the SATA 5 connectors, two of them only work in AHCI or RAID mode. Didn't turn out to be a dealbreaker for me since I only have one hard drive and one optical drive at the moment and since I enabled AHCI in the BIOS but it may limit expansion capabilities.

Other Thoughts: This mobo has "MyLogo 2" which allows you to load an image into the boot up sequence. Except that the only way to load in your image is using the Windows provided BIOS update utility which doesn't do any good on a Linux install. (And no, I'm not going to load Windows just so I can add a BIOS image!)

2 out of 5 eggsNot Bad...will RMA once.

Pros: Well built in general, secure in the case, NVIDIA utilities for LCD TV overscan correction work well.

Cons: Has a serious but intermittent problem with posting. Based on what I've observed appears to be in the memory controller. I have only been able to post the MB with a single DIMM and then only sometimes.

5 out of 5 eggsLove IT

Pros: Everything is on the board. Solid capacitors. Plenty of Ports USB, SATA. VGA, DVI and HDMI, very nice audio! Compact size.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board to build my HPTC/DVR. I am running mythbuntu 10.10 and myth .23.1. I had absolutely no problems with this board and my celeron 2.5ghz, crucial dual channel 2g 800mhz and my WD green 2tb drive. The computer booted with HDMI output to my living room LCD TV. I spent a little more to HDMI and good audio out with an Nvidia video chip. It is just amazing how well this works. Its still a work in progress because I am learning ubuntu and myth, but I am happy that I bought what I did.

1 out of 5 eggsMeh, should have installed a hemi

Pros: small compact, on-board video.

Cons: On-board video didn't initialize without a pcie card installed, had to change the setting in the bios to boot to vga first. RAM has no support and neither does the power connector.
Installed 8400 quad, using corsair ddr2 at 667mhz and the board randomly freezes and locks up. Replaced PSU, Enermax with a Kingwin, and it still locks up. Windows says it BSODS, but there is no display, nor does the system auto reboot.
Northbridge temp is 42C Processor temps are average to 50C. The board is Rev. 1.xx, updated to the latest bios version.

Other Thoughts: I will RMA this board as soon as I get a replacement. Disappointed in this product. If you buy this product, beware it has some issues. If you can live with the issues, then buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsReally Nice MoBo

Pros: Fast, even with a Pentium Dual Core E6300 Wolfdale.
Dual Channel Memory Architecture
nVidia GPU/Chipset

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: I run Linux, and i have had no problems finding drivers and support for this board. I bought 2 of them and would buy them again. HD Video plays cleanly, and I can run full screen HD flash player video under Linux without issues.

3 out of 5 eggsHDMI didn't work, but found a workaround...

Pros: Seems like a good micro board with built in HDMI. My other Abit motherboard died on me, so I used this as a replacement on my Windows 7 PC.

Cons: Driver on disk/updated drivers do not work for the nForce Chipset on this board (HDMI does work correctly). This made me angry at first, however I downloaded NVIDIAnFORCE_Chipset_V67800 from the ASUS website and chose the driver to install from a disk. I chose the NVIDIA GeForce 9300 GS driver, and this fixed my HDMI whoas, oddly enough.

Other Thoughts: I just really wish the HDMI would work on Windows 7 out of the box. This makes me mad as engineer. The mobo box says Windows 7 compatible on it, and did they really test the drivers??? Hopefully, if I buy another Asus motherboard, the drivers will work correctly in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for HTPC

Pros: -Onboard HDMI and graphics are perfect for HTPC
-Easy build, stays cool
-Solid as a rock for the 1.5 years I've been using it daily as HTPC

Cons: -None

Other Thoughts: -HDMI out to AVR -- never had any flickering problems on Vista x86 or 7 x64
-Very pleased about the stable performance over time
-Great bang for you buck if you are building a value system for HTPC only
