1 out of 5 eggsWhat's the deal?

Pros: Worked well when I first installed it, did everything I wanted it to.

Cons: This, and every MSI board i've ever had has stopped working. This time I got a new CPU, I put it in, got everything put together, and like every other time i do an upgrade on an MSI board, it power cycles infinitely. I've tested every one of them after this happens, It is most certainly the Motherboard.

Other Thoughts: This is my fourth MSI board that has mysteriously failed. 1 failing- i'm fine with that, stuff happens. Second- Weird but not really uncommon. Third- Something is wrong, I installed them immaculately. it's not me. Fourth- This is too common for it to be anything but the motherboard. What's the deal MSI? I've burned up hundreds on these boards.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
Based on the symptom you reported, we suggest you checking following steps below since many reasons can cause the situation like this ,
1. Check and make sure that power are connected correctly and firmly (JPWR1 and JPRW2), cleasr CMOS.
2. Check your other major hardware’s (memory, video card, CPU and power supply) to ensure that they are not the cause of the issue.
3. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our technical support department directly at 626.271.1004 from M to F, 6am to 6pm Pacific standard Time.

1 out of 5 eggsnot giving a 3rd chance

Pros: The cpu, memory, and connectors fit in their respected areas well.

Cons: First board DOA, Second board kinda works sometimes. I get BSD (Blue Screens of Death) or just freezes and the reset button doesn't work. Tried various BIOS updates; made sure all updates were preformed, but still does the crashing. Not sure if it is the brand of memory (Crucial) or not that is causing the conflict, but I run a memory test and when single module is in no problems. I put both in and can get six or seven successful tests, then a crash.
the CMOS battery placement is a pain also. With said problems from above I find myself resetting the BIOS once a week. I would have to pull the video card out to reset the BIOS because it is located over the reset and battery. The 12 volt accessory plug is in a bad spot also. You need to add about seven inches of wire so it can be hidden, or let it look sloppy and run it over the video card.

Other Thoughts: I have been building, repairing, and upgrading desktops since the early 1990's. I only had used MSI once before in a build and didn't have much luck with it then. Newegg had a package deal with this motherboard in it. I am thinking that I would have been better off spending the extra money on a more familiar board. Done with MSI.
BTW, I did have a MSI video card, 9200 I think, that would still work today if I could find a AGP motherboard to put in.

1 out of 5 eggsBottom PCIe not functioning, Top messed up

Pros: UEFI interface easy to use, though the Live Update function sucks, ended up flashing the updated bios manually through M-Flash, which worked well. Built in Winki browser was also useful before I installed Windows 8.

Cons: Basically I planned to run two Gt-545s in sli on this motherboard. However my computer only detected the card in the top PCIe slot on the motherboard.

I soon figured out that, though the graphics card in the bottom slot was not detected, if I took the bottom card out of its slot, the top card would no longer be detected either.

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Nvidia drivers, even booted into safe mode and used DriverSweeper to make sure the drivers were gone. I’ve also tried switching the cards around, having them connected with and without the SLI bridge, and using the GT-440 from my old setup on its own and with a GT-545. I flashed the latest BIOS (1.B) to the motherboard, and all other drivers are up to date, but the problem remains the same. Interestingly if I unplug the bottom card from the power supply (the fan stops working and the card appears to be off), but leave it connected to the motherboard, the top card still works.

2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable quality

Pros: As I write this, I've had this board for about three weeks.
- Bios features are great.
- One-click OC works very well.
- Price at the time of buying this was great, included a rebate special as well.

Cons: One of the PCI Express slots broke after utilizing it for a day. I was using a SATA II/eSATA controller that I had been using on another build for quite some time now. After a day of having it installed, I noticed that my eSATA device was not recognized anymore. Infact, after looking at the device list, the PCI-E card wasn't there anymore. I decided to switch it to a different PCI-E slot and it worked. I reset CMOS and it was still broken. Very disappointed since I've owned this for less that 4 weeks. Thinking about RMA'ing it, but it's such a hassle to do so and I'm still waiting on my rebate. If rebate doesn't go through, I am returning this board with much hope for a full refund.

4 out of 5 eggsReally good motherboard

Pros: Very good looking board, looked brown on the images but its a very deep brown so it appears almost blackened. enough options onboard for me. easy to use bios.

Cons: had to install disk drivers to use ethernet. more of an inconvience than a con but it bothered me. could use at least one more pwm fan port.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board!

Pros: Good price point, SLI compatible, stable, UEFI, and easy to set up!

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: Very satisfied! Only 4 egg rating, because I'm sure I could find SOMETHING to complain about over time, but for my budget it was perfect! UEFI and overclocking memory was interesting (in a bad way), but I chalk that up to my inexperience.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: I'm enjoying click bios.

The bios' organization isn't what I'm accustomed to but updating the bios and setting ram timing were extremely simple matters.

The board's layout is good; everything clears everything comfortably.

No hot air comes out of my case anymore. This is an upgrade from M4A88Ti Deluxe/ Athlon II X4 635.

Cons: SATA connectors for each channel are stacked vertically off the board. This made drive connection after installation a touchy affair for me because the connectors face down in my case and the drives install behind the motherboard.

People with traditional cases most likely won't have any problem.

Other Thoughts: I downloaded the bios update to a thumb drive prior to installation and installed it first thing on installation. I always do this.

For the money this board is excellent. I haven't explored any of the advanced features yet because I won't be overclocking.

I have no universally relevant cons so I deduct no eggs but, reviewers: if you have a con that most likely applies to many people other than yourself you should not be posting 5-egg reviews. That's crazy. 5 eggs is perfect in yours and, most likely, others' experience.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Price

Pros: Black and Blue
Has two PCI Express 3.0 x16 for future upgrading
USB 3.0
Realtek HD audio manager
HDMI output
Mouse support on BIOS works

Cons: Doesnt do my math homework

Other Thoughts: What can I say, I mean it worked perfectly the first time I turned it on. I had never built a PC before but the instructions inside the manual were very clear and made it easy. I thought for sure I would run into a problem as a first time builder but nope. Worked flawlessly.

As a noob to the PC world, I also thought that I had to buy an expensive high end motherboard just to build a gaming PC that would play the latest titles. But this board proved to me that this isn't the case.

Also looking forward to overclocking. Judging from other reviews its very simple. Even on the box it says it has "1 second" overclocking.
