4 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard solidly construced.

Pros: Good board built well has ok heat sinks. Great for running cpus stock.

Cons: Doesn't overclock well!

Other Thoughts: Good for basic gaming build....If you got the extra cash go for 990fx board.

5 out of 5 eggs2+ Years of solid service so far

Pros: FX support, USB 3 - flash drives read 110+ MB/s, even though it's been out for 3 years msi still frequently updates bios for new cpu's and improvements.

Cons: Only 2 usb 3 ports, although you can use a hub or add pci-x card for more.

Other Thoughts: I don't see why so many bad reviews, lack of system building and troubleshooting I guess. It works great with FX processors, I have an FX-8350 with small overclock in it currently, before that a 1090T 6 core cpu. I have been using it since 2013 and have never had issues.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board, does everything I need it to

Pros: -Bios looks very nice and is incredibly easy to navigate through
-Lots of fan connectors and PCI slots
-more than enough USB slots
-USB 3 header for front panel USB

Cons: I can't say that I've had any.

Other Thoughts: I've had this board for a year and a half and never once have had problems with it. My GPU, CPU, and RAM are overclocked and it runs everything stable, all while keeping at a cool temperature.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks great, but lacking front USB support!

Pros: Fired right up and set up was easy. This was my first PC build and it was simple!

Cons: No USB for front panel, had to buy separate PCI card to power front USB ports

Other Thoughts: I was cheated on MSI rebate! I sent copy of receipt from Newegg.com and they said it wasn't good enough. It has to be actual invoice from shipping I guess. I sent it in as soon as I received it and they didn't deny it until after the allowed submit date. Therefore I had no chance to fix the issue and get my rebate. Never in my life have I been denied a rebate until now. Shame on you people!

3 out of 5 eggsBoard worked good until Windows 8 upgrade..

Pros: Board worked good right out of the box..

Cons: The Windows 8 option in bios is not adequately documented.. After upgrading to Windows 8 I went to bios and enabled the Windows 8 option.. Now the board won't boot, and I can't access bios to change it back.. Tried to clear CMOS with no success.. Can't seem to find any way of going back.. Board is just dead.. Be careful don't enable Windows 8 options !

Other Thoughts: A warning about this in the manual would be helpful, and how to recover (if you can)..

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ralph,

1 out of 5 eggsBad board.

Pros: Good looking board.

Cons: Low end product. Doa. Just got around to doing my build. Bad board. Not eligible for return. Now I'll have to deal with sending it to msi. I've already purchased another board today for my build.

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend. Should of read reviews

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsBad Board

Pros: I was unable to find any pros in this other than that it worked for a little while and then stopped working.

Cons: This board was problems after problems. After getting everything nestled into the board, I went to turn it on and I would not get POST at all. After moving the RAM sticks around I found one of the DIMM slots to be defective. I had managed to get it to boot which was okay for a day or so.

Not long after the computer was not going to POST again. I took out the CPU and remounted it again. It booted. I had to reboot. It wouldn't boot to POST again.

I ended up deciding that my last try was to go back to the old motherboard I had been using prior. Low and behold, it works.

Lesson learned? The board I received appears to be a bad board.

Other symptoms this board had was when it was working, the CPU fan would go completely nuts. My CPU fan would go nuts on the old board anyways, but it went nuts when powering on from 8hrs+ being turned off.

I can't say that this board is good right now. I can't even say it's a descent board other than it's price was cheap. If the replacement board doesn't work, I'm requesting a refund and finding a different board and manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: MSI, if you're there and reading this, please do better with lower-end motherboards. I've been reading a lot of people had this same problem. If lots of people are having this issue, fix it. If you're able to replicate this issue, fix it. Don't just release a product that doesn't work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Nathan,

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I had this board for about 2 years and it worked great until recently. Good for average, light gaming.

Cons: After upgrading to a 970, the board just couldn't seem to handle it and crapped out about 2 months later. Just sucks it happened the day before fallout 4.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGood board

Pros: Good features at a decent price
Runs Cross fire without issue
Overclocks Easily
Boots fast
Reliable
Smaller size than some older atx designs (this helps out when installing and managing cables)
Good sound quality
3x fan support (cpu and two additional fans)
Stacked sata ports (my g45 didn't have this)
sli support (my g45 didn't have this either)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is my second MSI board and will likely buy again. I was far more impressed with this board that my old ASUS A8N-E. I purchased the g45 version of this board back in 2011 and it has not failed me yet. I did not get a chance to test out the raid or how it functions with SSD drives but I am sure it works fine.

System:
MSI 970a-G45 (2.7 BIOS)
FX-8350 @ 4.5GHz
Radeon Memory @1760 MHz
HIS Radeon R9 270 in xFire @ 270x speeds
Corsair CX600 PSU
Cooler Master 690
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
