5 out of 5 eggsLasted 8 years!

Pros: It was almost the perfect motherboard for my rig for 8 years. Amazing reliability. At one point it had over 8900 hours of uptime without a reboot. It was just an amazing board.

Cons: CPU fan mounting bracket becomes brittle over time. Took 6 years of regular maintenance before it finally gave out. Had to order a replacement.

Processor socket lever to lock in the CPU broke at around year 6, a couple months before the fan bracket broke. I suspect these two issues were inevitable due to the massive heat output with a Phenom 9950 Black Edition. Easy workaround is to make sure you have a nice tight fit up with your fan bracket to keep the CPU mashed into the socket.

Other Thoughts: Finally broke down 2 days ago. Had a major system halt. Attempted to reboot, would not even make it to post. The lights are on, but no one is home. Thankfully, everything else can still be salvaged. Hell, the CPU is still good. I only recently put in new RAM to upgrade from 4 to 8 GB. I still have the original Patriot sticks I purchased during the build. The only thing on my rig that is not original is the PSU. It was not quality rated and after 8900 hours, it finally gave out and caught on fire. Replaced it with a 600W 80 Bronze one from Best Buy and it kept chugging along for several more years without issue.

I absolutely loved this motherboard. I am so grateful for MSI's craftsmanship. You can look forward to me purchasing the MSI 970 Gaming motherboard soon. I can't wait to see how it fairs.

Thank you again MSI.

5 out of 5 eggs5+ Years

Pros: I have had this Motherboard in my desktop for over 5 years. Was able to upgrade the pro0cessor to a Phenom II after two years, that was great. It is still working extremely well. No issues.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Wondering if I can upgrade to DDR3 memory?

5 out of 5 eggsStill Chugging along

Pros: I have also had this for 5 years now, never had serious issues.
Supports AM3 processors like the Phenom II series, I upgraded a couple years ago to the x6 1090T and am loving it! still one of the top CPUs for gaming with AMD and well supported on this old motherboard.
Overclocking is very easy.

Cons: I have had the occasional lockup, but not sure if it is related to the motherboard or if it is an overclocking stability issue...

Other Thoughts: DDR2 RAM is still expensive, lol... but the RAM I originally put in here is still working great and benchmarks very well

5 out of 5 eggsBest mobo I've ever owned

Pros: 5 years old and still going strong. Never once had a single issue with it.

Supported such a wide range of parts that I've been able to upgrade roughly every year since I purchased it.

Currently going to purchase a higher end PCI-E 2.0 video card to push this to its limits and hopefully get another couple of years out of it.

Cons: Not AM3. But this came out before AM3 really took off.

Other Thoughts: Reviewers that rated this board poorly either had fluke boards or never owned it in the first place. It is a flawless mobo. A+

5 out of 5 eggsStill in my case

Pros: Very stable and reliable MB that gave me almost everything. Easy maintenance.

Cons: Mising wake on LAN feature and missing TPM modul. In the MSI internet site there was a misleading description for a long time that it is "(optional)" feature now I see that this statement is deleted and just the user's manual contains instructions "how to" plug in a TPM Modul (optional) to TPM pin header, but the MB pins are missing, just "dots" are showing where the Modul should be pluged in.

Other Thoughts: I do have one TPM Modul but I've no idea how to use it without pin header. So my idea was to solder pin header on the bottom side of the motherboard where the 'optional' JTPM wholes are indicated. I wrote to MSI but the support gave me a laconic answer that is not possible.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboard

Pros: Couple this motherboard with an Athlon X2 3GHZ CPU and 4GB of DDR2 800 memory and you have a very nice machine for editing video! I'm very satisified with the speed at which it can render video, one of my main concerns when I put this machine together.

Cons: None - everything fine worked 1st time

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well with Linux and XP

Pros: Works as expected, decent number of features.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Have had 1 of these for a year (June 2008 to June 2009). Have had zero problems on a dual boot Opensuse Linux and windows XP.
Just got a second one a week ago for a client and about to order a third one for home.

4 out of 5 eggsTrouble free and cheap!

Pros: Easy to install, plenty of space. No memory issues, really good manual.

Cons: I couldn't get the 5.1 audio to run on my home theater, i dont know if its an issue with the motherboard or the audio system. the optic audioo out broke off, the motherboard kept working anyway. Just be careful

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Yet another one of those objects that are never really noticed inside the computer and I can't think of really anything to put in the pros area, theirs not a single thing wrong with it, its just never done anything 'special'. Though I will say with the heat pipes it looks beautiful through the side panel on my computer.

Cons: No cons, its done its job from day one and not a single flaw. I had a older flash drive that if left plugged in when the bios was starting it got to "Scanning for USB devices..." and never went on. What happened with that I'm not sure and it only did it 2 times, but just to be safe and I needed a bigger flash drive anyways I went out and bought a 8gb U3 Flash Drive and it stays plugged in almost all the time, never a problem. Maybe the flash drive was just too old? I don't know. I gave the old one to my dad and he loves it, and I got a new 8gb flash drive so I'm happy.

Other Thoughts: It annoys you that "No RAID array was found." every time you start your computer till you either start a RAID or turn off the RAID card in BIOS. Its a quick and simple fix or just ignore it if you don't mind it taking 5seconds of your time on start up. Who knows maybe some day you will get a RAID and it saves you 1 button to push xD
