5 out of 5 eggsNice board

Pros: * Good chipset - I especially like that the BIOS settings have a boot menu built into it. Makes booting to an alternate device easy, certain, smooth, and unhurried.
* The board itself has great component labeling - even the case connectors.
* The manual is also detailed, well-written and accurately illustrated.

Cons: * Beware - the SATA ports stick out behind the board, not upwards, so if your case just barely fits a standard ATX form-factor, you might have a problem.

Other Thoughts: I really appreciate the fact that (if you believe the packaging), the board was designed with survivability in the field as a primary concern. Diagnosing and replacing a sketchy motherboard is not a fun way to spend a weekend. Of course, whether it actually yields years of happy usage for me is yet to be seen, but I appreciate that they see it as a selling point.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: As the title attempts to state, this is a solid motherboard. It's the perfect , low cost fit for most AM3+ users. It does it job, and it does it well. I do not regret the money i spent on this board, and I would gladly buy another one. Thank you, Gigabyte.

PS

The bios is the nicest I've ever used.

Cons: I've only owned it for a week, so I have nothing in this department thus far. It runs a little hot? It's currently at 43 C, but my threshold for concern is a lot higher than that.

Other Thoughts: I saw another reviewer state something about the side facing sata ports. Personally I was benefited by this, but keep it in mind. Only two USB 3.0 ports? The others are listed as "USB 3x" but according to the photo shown on this website there are only two.

I went to Gigabytes website and they state there are four, which should be more than enough, especially with the on-board "socket".

2 out of 5 eggsPreliminary Review

Pros: price (for features relative to the competition)
physical appearance/colors

Cons: my experience so far is not windows related, I have yet to install windows as i mainly use & tinker w/linux.. i have had a very bad experience w/this board since purchasing a few months ago.

linux mint 17.1 + ubuntu 14.04 installed on 3.5" & also tested using 2.5" drives via sata & with USB adaptors w/same OS" and drives randomly (for no apparent reason) shut down. Also tried using an IDE 2-port card in its PCI slot & experienced constant issues --wouldn't boot Linux,; issues using GParted to alter partitions. I do not know if these problems stem from shortcomings of AMD architecture or if Gigabyte is getting worse in quality or maybe i just have a board that is a lemon. I have updated to the latest bios that came out a few mnths ago as soon as I started using the board so that should not be cause. . Since my RMA period has ended I may contact GB about getting a replacement board to see if it fares better or may just sell to a friend w/advice to use windows as much as I don't want to advise of that. I have triied to use bios/uefi settings mentioned here by other Linux users but outcomes are the same. USB 3.0 port s wouldn' t allow me to boot a Linux USB Live Flash Drive.

Other Thoughts: Using with AMD R9 270 GPU + 8GB DDr3.+AMD FX 8320

Board is revision 4.0

will update w/any further thoughts if warranted. or if I remember any other problems.

5 out of 5 eggsFAST, Very Happy

Pros: Ran perfect out of box. Did not have to change any settings.
Bios is totally cool, very configurable. Runs cool and fast.
AMD 990 FX chip is awesome.

Cons: Have to OC just to get fastest memory speed, but that is good if you like to tweak... Why not just give us the 2133 speed and be done with it?

Other Thoughts: Also installed the AMD3+ AMD 6300 Vishera 6 Core, Win 7 64bit OS, 500 watt PSU and a GIGABYTE GV-N420-2GI (rev. 3.0) GeForce GT 420 2GB 128-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 ATX Video Card

I stupidly used 8 gb (2 x 4) Corsair 2133 which defaulted to 1600. I placed both sticks in channel slots 1 & 2 with no problems. I did not want to overclock. I should have just got the 1866. I could have saved 50$ by getting Gskill Rpijaws X1866 or 1600. Unless you want to spend lots of time setting DRAM clocks, just get the 1866 or 1600 not 2133 (OC). The are plenty of Mobo's that list 2133 without having to set timings and voltages that may have a disastrous results.
I installed a 3 pipe arctic cooler (recommend 4 pipe instead because processor is big and the 3 pipe footprint is small, but amazingly, still cools very well) and CPU is running a 14 idle to 30 C under load. The Northbridge pipe is NOT hot because I have a small fan blowing over it. The stock cooler directs SOME air over the NB. If you install another cooler, be sure the NB is being cooled too!

My Gigabyte GA-N650SLI-DS4L (un-OC'd Intel) board has been running for 7 years without any issues. Still ungodly fast.

Honestly, I think some or most of the problems others have indicated are due to installer error or using non compatible parts. CHECK the web site for compatible memory and CPU's. After reading the reviews I was hesitant but since Gigabyte rocks so I went with this board and have no regrets.

My next upgrade/build will feature the GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XM-D3H FM2+ / FM2 AMD A88X (Bolton D4) 8 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
with a AMD A10-7850K Kaveri 12 Compute Cores (4 CPU + 8 GPU) 3.7GHz Socket FM2+ 95W AD785KXBJABOX Desktop Processor AMD Radeon R7 series
and Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model PV38G213C1KBL
All for about 250$ from Newwegg.

At first I thought I got a DOA but after I plugged in the power cord and switched the PSU on, it started. DUH.

I received all the build parts in 3 1/2 days FEDEX

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Moba

Pros: It works like it is supposed to. The only issue I had was the thermal gel dried and caused the CPU to shut down, but that happens and it was an easy fix.

Cons: None, and I have had it for some time now.

Other Thoughts: I would suggest getting this to future proof you build. It is a very good quality mobo.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB 3 ports stopped working

Pros: It works despite the first one being DOA and the second one having defective USB 3 ports.

Cons: The first one I received was DOA which caused me a lot of undue stress. This board also doesn't come with a system speaker so there's no easy way to tell the board is dead unless you buy a special motherboard speaker... So anyways I had to tear down my entire computer piece by piece and RMA the board. I got the new one, which I then had to pay a professional $50 to put my new computer together because I was sick and tired of dealing with this after the first board. So the guy puts it together and all seems right with the world, for about ONE week... and THEN the USB 3.0 ports suddenly stop working. I no longer have the ENERGY to return the board and be without my computer a second time.

Other Thoughts: Never had such a bad experience with a motherboard. Stay away!

5 out of 5 eggsExtremely pleased

Pros: Great for first time PC builders.
I installed mine with no problems in about an hour, mostly because everything is labeled very clearly.
If it says USB then it's going to work when you plug the case's USB wire in.

Pretty easy to install the CPU/Motherboard/Ram.

Rather arousing design.

Cons: none

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Budget Board

Pros: On first impression, it's a nice board for the money. Nice black color, decent connector layout, and decently thick board. The BIOS is fairly easy to use and also has a failed boot recovery option incase you mess overclocking up. Drivers disc has everything you need to get up and running after a fresh install, just be sure to install the software and drivers under advanced and un-check bloatware.

Cons: There is a heat sink on the right center of the board that is very very loose, wiggling unnecessarily much when touching it.

I do not like that the south bridge, north bridge and power smoothing circuits use the same heatsink pipe.

No overclocking headroom at all on a FX-8120 processor (4.8ghz was attainable on air on a ASRock 990fx Xtreme).

Cannot clock RAM to the designed XMP profile either, will not boot.
