2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice features

Cons: DOA. Install went beautifully, powered on and stuck in the BIOS startup screen with no keyboard input. Randonly on some boots, I can still hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and reboot, but that's it and only occasionally. Everything looks powered on the board; fans are going, LEDs on, got a nice POST beep from the case speaker...just no input. Tried PS/2 and USB (on all the ports) and nothing. Even used a backlit keyboard; it was lit, so I know it was getting power. Verified PSU in another build, which worked perfectly, so it's not that. Everything points to a bad MOBO, but all the peripherals are getting power. I was able to get into the boot menu once, but then the input died as soon as the menu opened. Really weird. Emailed GB for support early Friday; no response as of Monday.

This is the third Gigabyte board I've bought over the last 10 years, and the third DOA; a real disappointment, but honestly not a big surprise.

Other Thoughts: It's probably something as simple as a bad DIMM slot, but it's still frustrating to have to deal with QC issues like this.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Board. Great bang for the buck.

Pros: I recently had to upgrade my old mobo from a MSI970A-G46 because my FX8350 wouldn't allow me to overclock properly, So I picked this up and was able to push my FX 8350 from 4.0 to 4.4 without having to adjust my voltages. I added maybe 0.125 extra volts and pushed it to 4.6 safely.

Cons: The board was hard to accept my GSkill Sniper DDR3 1866mhz ram, I had to do a bit of research and had to adjust some voltages on my RAM to accept the 1866 speeds.

4 out of 5 eggsFast and Reliable!

Pros: This Motherboard is fast, and reliable. The board is fairly well laid out. I especially like the location of the SATA ports. BIOS is easy to configure.

Cons: I have 3 minor issues.

The BIOS comes with visualization off by default. its 2014 people want to run Virtual Machines. Although this is an easy change in the BIOS to turn it on. Also I am not a fan of the location of the 8-pin power connector. In smaller cases it is slightly hard to reach.

Other Thoughts: Overall great board that delivers reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT MOTHERBOARD

Pros: Have been a Gigabyte fan for many years, they produce and design very good line of motherboards. This motherboard gets high praises from me, 990FX chipset is very powerful. This motherboard is one of a kind and I really like. The quality of this board is very good and very stable.

Cons: NONE SO FAR

Other Thoughts: This motherboard started right up after I put all the components in place, before performing the installation I grounded myself to my case with my static wrist strap. I simply love the UEFI BIOS, very sophiscated and colorful. I setup a RAID 1 with WD 250 GB HD's. Already had a AMD Athlon II X2 250, which I have had for a few years and pleased with the performance. Not a big fan of gaming, but do a lot of general applications. Am enjoying this mother board and all it has to offer.

5 out of 5 eggsLike a well oiled machine.

Pros: I am not overclocking. Been up and running for 6 months without any issues whatsoever.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: FX6300 with an older GSO video card. I dabble with Blender, C4D and After Effects and this thing runs cool as a cucumber with the STOCK CPU fan. With my old MSI mobo and quad core AMD (and high dollar fan/heat sink) I could smell it cooking under heavy rendering loads. This setup is 1000% better and cooler. Would recommend. I have run this rendering for over an hour with all 6 cores maxed at 100% and have yet to break 40 degrees C.

5 out of 5 eggsGiga

Pros: Looks nice. Features are nice. On board sound does not hiss. AMD. Durable enough to stand up to mother nature, mostly.

Cons: Not 100% effective against lightning.

Other Thoughts: Got hit in a lightning storm, only fried the apparatus that holds the LAN and USB 3 ports. Had to plug my HD dock in to a pleb USB 2 port and install my backup LAN card. Would buy again.

2 out of 5 eggsQuite Disappointed

Pros: Games well, performance is excellent when paired with the FX-9350
Solid board when doing the basics, turn it on when you want to use it, turn it completely off when you're done with it (that's kind of a problem, I'll get to it below).
Attractive & functional-ish heatsinks on chipset & VRMs don't stick out from the board. SATA connectors are flushmount.
PCI-E x1 slot is above video card slots, so it's usable, and you can Crossfire. (Looking at you, ASUS)
Black + Gunmetal + Silver + Gray color scheme.

Cons: Issue #1: System does not wake from sleep or hibernation.
Tried a few different CPUs, RAM sets, video cards, and PSU. Once asleep, In order to get the system to boot at all, I have to disconnect power. Then when it does boot, it's not a *resume* boot but an emergency clean boot. I've found multiple sources outlining the same issue - Am@zon, Hard|Forum, overclock.net - other people are having the same issue that I'm having.

Issue #2: "lose" 200MB System RAM to... what?
Windows 7 System Profile says "Installed memory (RAM) 8.00 GB (7.81GB usable). Not a major gamechanger, I'd just like to know what engineering trick necessitated this. I highly doubt this "legacy" configuration of setting aside system memory for internal components such us BIOS, OS, and other onboard devices is still an issue for today's chipsets and BIOS - unless GIGABYTE wanted to cut a corner and pass the savings onto the consumer.

Other Thoughts: Used to be when I bought a Gigabyte motherboard, I knew *relatively* what I was going to get.
This is dissapoint.
