5 out of 5 eggsGreat H77 Motherboard

Pros: I bought this to replace my z68 motherboard that i sold to a friend. The spec's on the board are very good. Im running a Intel I3 3225 , 16gb ram , 120gb ssd , 500 gb black hard drive , Ati Radeon 7870 and dvd burner. Very easy motherboard to upgrade bios.

Cons: Wish it had more 6gb sata ports and more usb 3.0 on back.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeds Expectations

Pros: Motherboard has most features needed in the present and future including USB 3.0 in the front (header and back panel; eSATA, 3 x PCI, PCIe 3.0 16x, PCIe 2.0 4x, etc. Be aware that the H77 chipset is not for overclocking so don't expect it to do what it wasn't designed for. No installation problems

Cons: The SATA connectors on the edge can be difficult to use, but not impossible. It took me a couple attempts to get the cables connected as I wanted. Does not accept a PATA cabled DVD writer so I couldn't install a new SATA DVD writer and an old PATA DVD writer.

4 out of 5 eggsGood board, but lacking support

Pros: Pros
-Atx size, lots of various expansion slots
-usb 3.0 front and back panel
-m-sata slot for a small ssd

Cons: Cons
-Intel made a small mistake on the webpage for this board ,and forgot to list a few of the cpus that are socket lga 1155 .And one of these cpus (pentium g870) Is listed as a tray only cpu on the Intel website and thus is not listed as supported. It still works perfectly with no issues at all. However ,I am looking into having this fixed by intel customer support.

Other Thoughts: Other than the small support issue I am having, this board is overall a good choice for an h77 board.

5 out of 5 eggsIntel hasn't failed me yet

Pros: All my new builds since 2008 have featured Intel mobos. This one is a neat board. It's like a New York City subway car built in the 1980s. Back to basics, focus on simplicity, good cooling. Only thing it needs is stainless steel! Features a mini PCI Express slot. Guess what went in there? An Intel Wifi Link 1000 card. I need to get proper mounts for it though. Not a fancy board? Awesome! Just the way I like it. I don't like florescent colors on my motherboards.

Cons: Lacks Firewire (IEEE 1394). I would have paid $10 more for a board with it. It's an old standard, but still relevant. An additional PCI Express x1 or even x8 would have been nice. PCI slots are dinosaurs. And although Apple's let go of the Thunderbolt exclusivity, it'd be nice to see a flood of Thunderbolt motherboards available. But the pros FAR outweigh the cons.

Other Thoughts: My mobo turns 1 on March 30st, although I bought the board in late May. She's still kicking. Thumbs up for Intel.

4 out of 5 eggsNeeds better Linux support

Pros: Works pretty flawlessly under windows. I didn't try any heavy lifting but USB 3.0 and SATA III performance was great!

Cons: Linux support was lacking. I got this board with hopes of having better hardware support in linux. I figured that since it was made by intel, there would be plenty of support out there. What I found was the ethernet would cut out about once every 5 min only to immediately come back. I tried a pci card with the same results so I must conclude it's got something to do with the motherboard and how it handles the interrupts to the processor. I tried updating to the latest e1000e driver to no avail.

Other Thoughts: Great board, just needs more linux support.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The board ran great for about 2 hours... Then the standby light on the board came on and my computer starting shutting down every 15 minutes. It even restarted once...

Cons: Other then the obvious none that I can think of.

4 out of 5 eggsBIOS version 0100 cures several problems

Pros: See earlier review.

Cons: New BIOS version seems to have eliminated my earlier cons, save for the lack of official Linux support.

Other Thoughts: Update to my earlier review:

Intel recently released BIOS version 0100(9/6/2012). This BIOS version fixed the following problems I was encountering:

1. misconfigured memory when selecting XMP-1600 profile
2. incorrect IRQ routing for conventional PCI slots
3. EFI boot problems

IMHO, Linux users should definitely update the BIOS to version 0100. Others may want to consider updating if they are using non-default memory settings.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not update BIOS

Pros: It worked for all of 12 hours until I performed a BIOS update.

Cons: I put together a new system yesterday using the DH77KC motherboard. I installed Windows 7 x64 on a RAID 1 configuration. All was well. Then I noticed a couple issues. Fan speeds were not read correctly. I couldn't get any temperature data in PC Wizard and a couple other things. So I thought I'd try a BIOS update. I updated to the latest rev 100 BIOS for this motherboard using Intel Express BIOS method. After installing the BIOS I rebooted and the system was stuck in a continuous power on/off cycle. I couldn't boot. So I contacted Intel customer support. They had me attempt installation of a recovery BIOS using a USB drive. Still couldn't do it. We cleared CMOS, fiddled with RAM, removed all non-essential peripherals to perform the update. Still no dice. Now I need to RMA this board all because Intel has a defective BIOS update process. I've lost hours of work and I really hope this didn't fry my Ivy Bridge CPU.

Other Thoughts: Don't update your BIOS unless you absolutely can't live with the problems.

2 out of 5 eggsavoid if you are a linux user

Pros: specs look good on paper, cheap

Cons: acpi doesn't work properly under linux kernel 3.2. board also doesn't seem to retain bios settings properly.

Other Thoughts: wish i'd gone with the ASUS Z77 board...

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Havent had any issues since installing it. Built in sound is good enough for me and I play games on this rig. onboard usb 3.0.

recommend to first time builders and pros.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I bought this on a combo deal with a ivy bridge cpu. Upon installing i had trouble with it booting. not a major problem but figured that it matters which slots you put the ram into.

few ppl told me not to buy intel mobo cuz they are not that popular in that area, but I decided to go ahead and buy it anyway. Since then I have no doubt that this mobo is great quality and great hardware. it is an awesome mobo.
