Intel BOXD525MW Intel Atom D525@ 1.8GHz (Dual Core) BGA559 Intel NM10 Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo

Pros: This little board has gone through a media center to a media server over two years. I have to say that the specs of this board is quite interesting, they say that the max is 4 Gb of DDR3, but since I've tested it, it can be pushed up to 8Gb of memory. I'm partially tempted to go up to 16 gigs but we will have to see

Cons: the BIOS updating is still having an issue, but I don't mind that all too much, it gets easier after the first update. The other thing is that there is no information about the mini PCI express port or what is the compatibility for that port. I bought a 2 port mini PCI express card and it hasn't worked with the board and it hasn't been able to be recognized with Windows Home server 2011...Hope they fix the BIOS so it can recognize it easier.

Other Thoughts: Out of all of this, this board has done quite well for what it does as a server, I wish that the D2700MUD board worked just as great as this board has. Comparing between the newer boards, at least with this board, it is 64-bit capable and is not restricted. With the exception of the mini PCI express port, I got nothing wrong with it.

Pros: Small footprint, very quiet running (can't hear it at all). No issues for almost a year. Uses laptop memory and 10/100/1000 ethernet. Very affordable

Cons: only video slot if you want HTPC and the slot is PCI?!?

Other Thoughts: This just runs a command line server with 5TB of space. Works great and have rarely needed to restart. No problems to date glad with this purchase.

Pros: Price point for board and cpu. Ability to recycle old notebook memory to save more money. Fanless heatsink keeps it quiet. There's a spot on the board to add a video processor if home theater pc use is expected. Gigabit NIC.

Cons: Only 2 SATA ports. Single PCI slot (not PCI-e, not AGP...hmmm)

Other Thoughts: I've got this board combo installed in a shoebox case with with a 200w power supply and a singe 80cm fan. 1.5Tb green drive, 4gigs notebook memory...no CD drive. Running Windows Home Server v1 and it's been humming nicely for three years now. Backs up all my primary machines and serves files quite well. Media serving is a bit much for it, so I have another machine to do that. I'm not sure what others are doing with their boards, but common sense and conservative useage have proven this product for me.

Pros: I am using this board with 4GB of RAM installed. It is my router, Squid cache server, munin server, nagios server, and cups print server. It has been turned on since I bought it in Feb 2011, only rebooted twice for software updates. This board has been rock solid.

Cons: Obviously not a gaming board, but everyone already knew that I hope.

Pros: It was cheap, and it looked promising.

Cons: It stopped working completely after the first month of use, just in time for the warranty to expire.

Other Thoughts: To be totally honest, I will never buy an Intel product again, because I've had issues literally every single time I have invested in their products. I'm sorry to say it, but I've lost faith in the company's quality which was once so renowned. From now on, I'll look at a certain competitor's product exclusively.

Pros: Small, runs cool.

Cons: The cons far outweigh the pros. This boards performance with the memory maxed out is still VERY poor. Flash doesn't run without a lot of stuttering. Even 720p video runs choppy.

Other Thoughts: This does work as a computer. You just can't hardly do anything on it. MS Office doesn't even run well. Windows 7 has a hard time on it, as does Ubuntu. Apparently, Intel's graphics chipset doesn't get along with Linux.

Pros: Inexpensive.

Cons: VERY poor overall performance. When watching videos on Youtube the video was very choppy and sluggish. I tried diligently to resolve this problem, even maxed out the memory on this board with no improvement whatsoever. I used this board for 5 long months with consistent poor results. Even regular web surfing was sluggish over 50% of the time. Please, DO NOT waste your money on this low end piece of junk. Intel truly dropped the ball on this one. Spend the extra $40 bucks and get something that actually performs as intended.

Other Thoughts: Please also keep in mind that there is NO PCIe slot on this board. Also, the max memory that is supported is only 4Gb.

Pros: Fine as long as you don't lose power ever.

Cons: I'm tired of these boards failing to start after a power failure! Lost power this morning and I've already lost hours trying to get them started and they're not going.

My weekend is shot now. First thing Monday morning I'm replacing them.

Pros: Worked great when it worked.

Cons: Dead after 2 months of minimal use. Now if it does power on at all it does not recognize any ps2 or usb devices. Working on an RMA with Intel now.

Pros: Small. Runs cool. Works well when it does boot up.

Cons: Update on "CPU overheat prevents booting" issue: we have done heat testing on two boards that had the "no auto power-on" symptom reported earlier. We first "reset" the problem by saving CMOS settings. We then raised the ambient slowly until the CPU temp was 56C (which is above the board rating of 50C). The boards continued to function and reboot all through the testing at 56C for 2 hours. We found no failure to boot based on CPU temperature.

Other Thoughts: We conclude that the failure to boot up may not be related to CPU temperature at all. Our guess right now is a bug in the BIOS code or flaky hardware that prevents booting. We did find that simply saving CMOS settings does somehow "reset" the problem. Our problem is that these boards are inside an industrial terminal package we make which has no keyboard or power button -- so the end user can't get into CMOS to fix it. Time to change to another MB? Email sent to Intel on this issue.

We are using the latest BIOS update and drivers available at Intel.com. We are running XP PRO.
