3 out of 5 eggsworks but not great

Pros: The device works as advertised and works on both Windows/Mac with relative ease.

Cons: I use the device on a latest-generation Macbook Pro in conjunction with 2 other external monitors plugged in through HDMI for a total of 4 monitors. The monitor with the USB to HDMI adapter on it lags and has visual distortions of both the top-left Apple button and the bottom dock bar. These seem to be issues with OSX 10.9 and OSX 10.10 and it doesn't seem like j5create is actively developing or maintaining their driver/kernel extension.

If you're using on Mac with more than 2 monitors I would suggest looking elsewhere as the performance is not the best.

Also doesn't support rotation mode on Mac and that's kinda lame

2 out of 5 eggsnot displaylink

Pros: cant say

Cons: will not install unless you uninstall all other usb display (displaylink) software, which is not an option for me.

Other Thoughts: should say so on product page.

5 out of 5 eggs3rd monitor

Pros: I got this adapter to be able to use 3 monitors simultaneously - my graphics card only supports 2.
I have 2 24" monitors that are connected to the card and Wacom Cintiq 12WX, connected via this adapter.

For this adapter, I use USB3 port on my computer, and haven't noticed any lag, even when working on large Photoshop or Illustrator files.

At first, i could only see 2 monitors when i hooked the adapter up - customer support at j5create was very friendly and they got back to me almost immediately, but they could not figure out what the problem was either.

The problem was that i didn't change DisplayFusion settings to extend to the third monitor. (off-topic: DisplayFusion is a great piece of software that allows to have a taskbar on each screen and spans wallpaper across all connected monitors.) Once i figured out what the problem was, everything worked fine. Yay!

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: build:

4 out of 5 eggsWorks ok for a second (third) monitor

Pros: Works as advertised on OSX 10.8/10.9 connected via USB 3.0, have not tested on windows. Have tried two screens at 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 both worked fine for web browsing and writing code. Easy to install and get working.

Cons: No support for monitor rotation on OSX. Every now and then while scrolling down through code, the screen flickers a little, kind of annoying, but still usable. The screen flickers also happens when switching between full screen apps, seems to happen when anything graphic intensive happens on the screen, again not too big of a deal, but enough not to get 5 eggs.

Other Thoughts: Videos do work, but must be at lower resolutions and aren't great, but that's not what this product was designed for. I've been using this for a few months developing web apps and am using this screen for writing code and it works great.

On a side note, it doesn't like to enable after the computer sleeps, not a big deal, just need to disconnect the USB and reconnect it and the screen fires back up with all the apps where they were.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

Pros: Works fine for what I wanted it for (web browsing, MS Office - i.e. not demanding applications). Tried it for videos and such, and did not work that well. This said, I should note that I used it with USB 2.0 and with a USB 2.0 HUB (for my convenience, but not recommended by manuf.), but it still worked fine. Have also tried with Windows 7 and worked fine.

Cons: None for low demand applications with USB 2.0 and MAC.
