3 out of 5 eggsCouldn't Try it Out

Pros: * Able to read SATA & IDE drives via USB.

Cons: * Power Adapter DOA.
* Can't use.

Other Thoughts: * $10 to RMA ship back a defective $18 item. Not happy.
* Giving 3 Eggs since 1 and 2 are way too low for not being able to use it.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbelievable.

Pros: Simple to use, self-explanatory design. You can set it up in less than a minute. I know there are probably equally good products out there, but this one did the job I needed and it worked perfect. 5 stars.

Cons: I don't think there are any.

4 out of 5 eggsGets the job done.

Pros: All three ports (both IDE and the SATA) are functional.
Power supply was strong enough to power some old IDE/PATA drives.

Cons: The 3-way USB connector gets moderately hot, raises some concern that it might burn itself out.

3.5" IDE connection was difficult to establish a stable connection. Think "messing with antennas on an old TV or radio till the quality is tolerable".

The Power Supply connection to the wall-outlet cable felt rather unstable, cheap plastic-y feel. Would not suggest un-plugging and re-plugging them back together a lot, if ever.

Length of cables were tolerable, but limiting.

Other Thoughts: Please note I have NOT tried any Disc drives, only HDDs.

The majority of this devices components screams "cheap" in it's construction. I took this gamble because I did not wish to spend egregious amounts of cash for a device with such a simple task (especially a USB 2.0 connection). For the price - relative to similar devices on the market - I feel it's proper not to dock my rating too much on the item. After all, it CAN do the job. It just takes some time and patience to get your connections right and your placement of the parts right.

Seeing as there's no real rhyme or reason to the cable setup, don't expect this device to be set up somewhere for a while or tucked away someplace to keep things tidy.

4 out of 5 eggsUsefull

Pros: • Works with almost all drive types
• Good price
• Very helpful for backing up/transferring data
• On/Off switch

Cons: • Power switch on one is starting to get a bad connection
• A lot of cords

Other Thoughts: I have 2 of these that I have owned for years. One has gotten a lot of use and the other minimal use because I usually only need one. They work great for backing up/restoring/transferring data but on the one that has gotten a lot of use, the power switch is starting to get a bad connection sometime. It would be nice if it didn't require an external power supply.

1 out of 5 eggsjunk

Pros: none

Cons: Power supply does not work. Do not waste your time

Other Thoughts: It will work connected to your pc power supply but that kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Powers on & lights up.

Cons: IDE hard drive conversion to USB fails in Win7. Purchased in Dec. 2013, the instruction manual implies the product only works with Win 2k/ME/XP. This is not noted in the Newegg tech specs. User manual disc not in package as advertised. SATA data and power cables are inconveniently short.

Other Thoughts: This is the last Vantec item I will purchase simply because it's cheap. Based on reviews, this is a hit-or-miss item.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Reasonable price (fairly frequent coupons, just wait for one). Plugged everything in and it works.

Cons: It would've been nice if the SATA cable it came with was longer, but ehhh, whatever, not that big of a deal. (You can see the length in the photos.)

Other Thoughts: I haven't tested the IDE connector yet. Hoping it won't fail me when I finally dig out my old drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat adapter!

Pros: Works with everything that I plug into it. I have used every type of drive that this adapter supports and all have worked great. Decent speeds for usb2 interface.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Make sure you read where it says the cord length(36 inch), that might be a little short for some peoples needs. For me it did not matter because I normally have the drive sitting on top of my tower where the usb ports are.

Also, it comes in a normal box and not some goofy package so it doubles a carry case(box) in-between projects and storage box so nothing gets lost.
