Rosewill Model RCDV-11007 10 ft. DVI-I Male to VGA Male Cable M-M

Pros: This cable will connect the DVI-I male end to a compatible monitor and the VGA end will plug directly into the VGA output of your graphics card/laptop.

I took a gamble on that, since the description specifically said "Connect your VGA monitor to your DVI video port without an adapter."

However, a few minutes of google-fu & I had the Wikipedia page on the DVI specification and the five types of DVI adapters. Specifically, the analog to DVI-I crossover is supposed to be supported natively and should work in either direction.

Since my monitor uses a pair of DVI-I (24 + 5 pins) inputs, this cable performs, flawlessly, the reverse conversion as in its description.

My GPU is an nVidia GT430 with one DVI-I output (used by another, much better monitor) and a VGA output ... now used with this cable by a different monitor.

And, for future use I can reverse the cable in a different situation where I only have DVI-I outputs on my GPU and an analog VGA input available on a monitor. Outstanding flexibility and re-use potential.

Also, I ordered this cable about 4:00 p.m. on a Thursday and it arrived about 12:noon on the next day, Friday. All for a total of under $6.

You really can't beat that with a stick.

At 10 feet, this cable gives me enormous flexibility in use for dual monitor systems and as a secondary monitor for a laptop. It's pretty heavy gauge, too ... it is possible the copper in this cable is worth more than the purchase price.
