It looks nice, I suppose. Constructed well, though I have to wonder how well the fan contacts will hold.

4 out of 5 eggsworks well, could be better

Pros: adds cooling
adds 4 hot swap bays(if you buy the brackets seperatly)
adds a 120mm intake fan

Cons: not universal
had to modify my case in order to get the fan to clip in, it involved cutting some around where the old drive bay covers were.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice if there were something like this (removable trays) that is universal for the same price.

4 out of 5 eggsSpecific Design

Pros: Nice cage. The trays are plastic but they are effective for the purpose of holding a hard drive. The rubber grommets for the HDD screws prevent vibration noise in the chassis. The fan mount has a neat design.

Cons: That neat design comes with a caveat: the fan does not attach directly to the cage it self, rather relying on the ability to mount to the front bezel. Both of the cases I had considered it for cannot take the fan and thus defeats part of the reason I bough it.

Other Thoughts: Despite it's particular design, it is a wonderful cage and suits my needs for now. It has spurned an idea for me that will hopefully result in the purchase of two more of these cages to be mounted in a custom built case for a file server. :D

4 out of 5 eggsNice HDD cage capable of hot plug/hot swap

Pros: Holds 4 HDDs where several competitors' cages hold only 3 in the same number of bays. Has a slide out tray for each drive - don't have to remove the whole cage to rearrange the drives - once it's in, it's in. Elastomer bushings in each tray help to keep the noise down. Fan holder doesn't have wires to mess with unless you want to install a better fan. Inexpensive at under thirty Washingtons. Under another twenty to add the extra hot plug/swap connectors.

Cons: As Newegg fails to disclose, this cage is designed specifically for the Silverstone Kublai series of cases (this is mentioned on the product page at the Silverstone site, but they do misspell "Kublai" in their description - linked from the Newegg page). I came up with the name "Kublai Kage" (tm) for it, but SST doesn't seem to want to buy the name from me. IAC, the fan mount can be modded to work with most cases. The plastic trays have excess plastic in the crosspieces that blocks air flow - this too can be remedied with a bit of work. Lacks a filter. The metal "mesh" that covers the front of the fan holder acts as a de facto filter and looks a mess after a short time in our old, leaky house. I remove the mesh (very easy with a thin-bladed knife or similar) and install a real filter assembly. Both looks more purposeful and is easier to keep clean.

Other Thoughts: Currently the least expensive hot plug/hot swap solution that can fairly easily be made to work with almost any case. And even if you don't need the hot plug/swap feature, it's still the best and most convenient HDD cage available for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsI am Happy

Pros: Lots of room for air to pass between the drives. Keeps drives 7 degrees cooler than my Athena power backplane did. Even with the Add on plug on the back to make it true hotswap trays. Also very Quiet. There are rubber spacers on the trays where you screw in the Hard Drives. They do an excellent job of quieting the HD chatter.

Cons: I miss my led lights showing me what each drive is doing but hey its hiding in a server so I really don't need that. Other con is Newegg doesn't carry the add on pieces to make this slide in hotswap bays.

Other Thoughts: Sorry Newegg I love to shop with you but had to order elsewhere so I could combine the shipping with the hot swap plugs.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: 4 SATA II swap bays when purchased with 4 CP05 addon cables. Seems to supply just enough airflow across to keep things cool, and is better than most full enclosures that bake your hard disks. Matches the decor of the case as well.

Cons: First I cannot easily swap drives... there is nothing that will help release the fan once installed into the front bezel. I have to remove both side panels and disconnect the front bezel entirely just to get to the drives. I would slightly change the design to include a fold down metal handle on the front or something to help release it from the case. Hence it looses 2 eggs...

Other Thoughts: THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
Installed into a thermaltake VI5000BNS Micro-ATX case... with a Jetway JI31GM3 motherboard. This motherboard is very narrow allowing plenty of room for the cage. Do not attempt to buy a standard micro-atx board and fit this cage or any other cage in such a small case.

4 out of 5 eggsReasonable Product

Pros: Unit has removable HDD racks which make installing or swapping drives easy without removing entire cage. Smooth look after Installation.

Cons: Mounted this an Antec SOHO case. Front Bezel/Fan combo is not the best mount. mounting rails interfere, but can be bent. Plastic rack design could be more efficient for ventalation.

Other Thoughts: The Coolmaster HDD cage is probably a better design, but this will work fine. It can mount in other cases, but I could see others not working so well.

3 out of 5 eggsCaution!

Pros: It looks nice, I suppose. Constructed well, though I have to wonder how well the fan contacts will hold.

Cons: As of this writing, nowhere in the product information does it say that it is *only for Silverstone Kublai series cases.* Yet right there, printed on the box it says "For Kublai series cases". And no, it won't install on other cases even if you're creative. Kind of a big thing to leave out of the description Newegg, please fix.
