The Define XL R2 is in a sleek and stylish Scandinavian form, capable of providing superb cooling and ventilation capabilities with exceptional expandability. Equipped with Fractal Design’s innovative ModuVent feature, this chassis has an updated internal layout that offers greater expandability, modularity and flexibility, including capacity for 9 PCI cards and two HDD cages that can be repositioned to provide more space for water cooling radiators.

  • newegg Silent case with high density To achieve a high level of noise reduction, material with mass should be incorporated which is what Fractal Design strives to achieve with the dense bitumen used on the side panels.
  • newegg ModuVent design The unique ModuVent design allows the user to choose between optimal silence or maximum airflow. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Cable Management You can route the cables through the thick rubber grommets and keep them tucked away in the 26 mm routing space behind motherboard plate.
  • newegg Flexible ventilation options Up to 7 fans can be installed (2 x 120/140 mm - front, 2 x 120/140mm - top, 1 x 140mm - back, 1 x 140 mm - side panel, and 1 x140 mm - bottom ), with three silent series R2 140mm Hydraulic bearing fans pre-installed. And a fan controller is strategically integrated in the front panel and supports up to 3 fans. The water tube holes are provided at the rear for easy water cooling setup and maintenance.
  • newegg Removable HDD cages Top HDD cage can be removed or repositioned for increased airflow whereas bottom HDD cage can be repositioned further into the case to allow for front radiator mount.
  • newegg USB 3.0 Connectivity 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0 and 2x audio ports on top panel allow handy connection to peripherals.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Big, spacious, very well made and finished, options and space available for just about any configuration. Not a fancy fan-boy case - just a solid, competent performer. Comes with sound-deadening from the factory - will save you a bundle over doing it yourself.

Cons: Weight. It is a VERY heavy case, even empty. One loaded and given its size, you won't be taking it to LAN parties.

Other Thoughts: Love these cases, this is my third and the first full tower. Fractal makes some great stuff.

4 out of 5 eggsThe rebirth of antec p180

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Affordable. Much cheaper than some crazy cases out there. This is for the minimalist who wants performance and doesn't need to show off.

Solid case. mostly metal all around. Eerily similar design to the old Antec P180 case I own. Right down to the back compartments and door design. Don't tell Antec though ;)

Has lots of room inside to work with. Accommodated a asus X99 deluxe & corsair H105 installation. Separated compartments allow you to install hard drives on the top (removable for larger graphics cards), and the bottom. Cabling routing on the aft door allows more to be clean install. And a SSD mount if you don't want to put it inside the case. I used it for a fan hub controller instead.

Noise dampening material inside along with the included case fans are surprisingly QUIET. I mean really quiet. No noctua's needed. Just runs at a small audible hum. Low enough to have a conversation next to it and not be overdrawn . Perfect for audio recording/podcasting.

Would Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Top Notch Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: I've built many computers over a near twenty-year span, and this was one of the most enjoyable builds I've ever completed. The biggest reason for that - by a mile - was this case.

Standard disclosure: I did buy this elsewhere, but only because of a one-day sale price that was simply too low to say no to. The rest of the gear came from the fine folks at Newegg in typically stellar (and day-early) fashion.

What was enjoyable about this build is that every detail that I encountered seemed to be very thoughtful, well-executed, and aimed at providing a premium product at a terrific price.

The outside of the case is just what I wanted: all-black, subtle presence but strong design, and good, solid steel. The inside of the case is fit and finish everywhere: no sharp edges with lots of attention paid to the layout of components and cabling.

My EVGA SuperNova 1000 power supply fit perfectly between the back of the case and the bottom fan. The slots for feeding cables back and forth were all perfectly placed; I never had to feed a cable too far, and every single power or data cable is basically hidden from view without a lot of threading or gymnastics. True, it's easier when you're working with all of this space, but I'd rather deal with a roomy full-size case and a relatively quick build than sweat the details over an SFF case.

The drive cages and trays operate smoothly and came pre-fit with rubber grommets for my two old-school WD HDDs and two newer SSDs. I could easily remove the top drive cage for super-long high-end cards; as it is, I could still fit a 12" card without removing the cage. And if you want to improve the airflow from the 140mm fan in the front? That top cage can rotate 90 degrees to let all of the air through.

The inside of the case is also fitted with soundproofing material that adds a soft touch to everything and eliminates pretty much every bit of sound, save for what cranks out of the video card under load. If it weren't for the case light, I wouldn't know it was on.

Cons: This seems super nit-picky - and it shows my age, I'm sure - but I wish it had a separate HDD LED on the case. As it is, there is only one LED and you have to choose whether to make it the Power LED or HDD activity LED.

Other Thoughts: For many years, I was a loyal Antec builder for many of these same reasons. They always seemed to be out in front with thoughtful, quality design without breaking the bank. The team at Fractal Design really hit a home run here. I would wholeheartedly recommend this case to anyone who asks, and I will build with Fractal again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Quality.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: This thing is sturdy and overall just great quality.
Great cable management options.
Cant find a single sharp edge/corner in this case, believe me i tried.
Option to install second bottom hard drive cage (sold separately obviously)
Very quiet case, pretty much silent. Couldn't ask for better. Stock fans are great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This thing is heavy and big, but you should know that if you ready the specs.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: First, this case is BIG. IT is roomy, if you needed to i am 100% certain you could mount 2 complete setups inside.
Its easy to setup, attach the motherboard in, route cabling, and has more fan ports than any 3 other cases combined. But each port has a foam gasket that blocks it unless you want to use it so you get to completely decide the air flow path.

Cons: Size- i wanted to have this tower sit on a desk, however with a hutch it will not fit in the space so i have to have it sit on the floor.

Other Thoughts: Wish i had more stuff to put in the case, the case seems a little empty with by basic setup.

5 out of 5 eggsRetirement home - Roomy and Quiet

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: HUGE. Great to route cables behind the motherboard - really cleans up the install. Motherboard mounted controls make setup a breeze. USB 3 and 2 up front.

QUIET - so much I didn't think the unit was on.

Cons: Does not have a speaker (to hear the initial power-on beeps) - Had a spare to test it out - not a continuing issue

Other Thoughts: ASUS Rampage IV AC4; ASUS GeForce GTX760
Fractal Design Define XL Case; Seasonics SS760XL
Samsung 840 Pro XXL; WD Black 1 TB
Crucial Ballistic Sport 32GB
Cooler Mester Hyper 212 ED

5 out of 5 eggslove it.. but room for improvement

This review is from: Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Pros: Huge.. this could be a con but I like it big

Lots of fan mounts

Front/bottom dust filters

Mounting options of radiators, in the top of the case the mounting holes are offset so you can run push pull without running into your RAM

Sound dampening foam is amazing

Stock fans are silent even at full speed and look classy

Hard drive sleds!!!! I would buy it again just to get more hard drive sleds they are that awesome!!!

Cons: My PSU cables weren't long enough but that is my problem not the cases

Doesn't support 360mm/420mm radiators

Heavy but if you pay any attention to specs you know that

The airflow at the front of the case is constricted by the front panel

Other Thoughts: Awesome case but your probably better off with the arc midi r4 for liquid cooling. which is what I'm gonna be adding to this case in a couple of weeks.

Really what would make it incredible is if they added the radiator support
