The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs. The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Fully Transparent Side Panel Window The acrylic window side panel features the same clean, Scandinavian design as the case itself, and has a completely flat outer surface without any plastic bezel or rivets, allowing you to display your setup in style.
  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg Innovative SSD Mounting Options Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5in, SSDs out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg Integrated Fan Controller Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg Advanced Cable Management Over 1in. of space behind the motherboard plate means cables can be conveniently routed through five rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Quiet

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: - Extremely quiet, even when packed full of fans
- Sleek, simple design
- Components fit well
- Removable drive bays
- Side window offers a nice view of expensive hardware
- No cheap plastic
- Plenty of necessary screws provided
- It's just awesome

Cons: - None so far.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a sleek and quiet case, this is a must have. I really enjoy the fact that it's not a flashy case because it can be placed in a house for a media PC and not stand out.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Looking Case, Good for First Build

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: - Spacious case
- Plenty of room for cables behind the motherboard
- Great dust filters
- Quiet case even with the top panels removed, had a total of 6 fans in the case

Cons: - After a while of ownership I wished that the case had a basement, though that may have raised this case from it's great price point

Other Thoughts: - The included white fans and white PCI slot covers should have been black as soon as the case was introduced and not later in a "black out"

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded my needs.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Good parts of the case are that it comes with two 140mm fans, one in the lower front and one in the upper rear. They are already setup facing the correct way to suck in air from the front and blow it out the back. My components fit perfectly and the cable management setup inside this case made it easy to have a clean setup. I have to run a cable from my PSU to an optical drive in the upper front, to the middle of the case for my GPU, the lower front for my HDD and SSD, and the upper center for my CPU. I was able to route all cables cleanly and efficiently, no cables are stretched out and reach their destination with a bit of wiggle room thanks to the design.

I was able to fit a Cryorig H7 CPU cooler, and an EVGA GTX 750 Ti no problem inside the case.

Cons: A little bigger than I expected but this can be a pro as your components won't be suffocated and can breathe easily.

3 out of 5 eggsA little disappointed.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Dust filters work good, it wont stop the finer dust from seeping through, but for the majority of household dust/hair/fibers floating around, it works well.

Very Spacious, great air flow. Not much else to say here. Its everything one would want.

Removable dive bay is very handy.

Cons: The front panel being able to just pop out may sound like a boon at first, up until you realize just carrying the thing can cause it to pop right off at the worse of times. This has led to me nearly snapping it right off the front since i lifted it up from the underside of the front panel (typical place one will pick it up by) thereby nearly dropping the entire PC. I cringe at the thought of this happening to someone, especially if theyve got a big heavy cpu cooler like the Hyper 212 EVO like i do. -1/2 egg

The dust filter at the front tends to rattle, akin to a pc's side panel not being screwd in tight enough. Incredibly annoying for those of us who like our PCs running as quietly as possible. I solved this by taping a package peanut to the interior of the gate in front of the dust panel to keep pressing down on it. -1/2 egg for this.

Last but not least, the wiring of the front panel was faulty. The reset button as well as the front audio jacks for headphones/mic do not work. Thankfully the power button still works, otherwise i'd have been doomed. Naturally, i was too lazy to ship the case out for a replacement since i 1) already had everything installed in it, and 2) was without a functional pc, as this was built during an emergency. -1 egg for this.

These three points have led me to giving it 3 eggs rather than 5.

Other Thoughts: Maybe it was just bad luck and i drew the short straw with this case, but with the faulty wiring from the front panel, it would cause my pc to short circuit and power down completely at the slightest vibration (or if i say, opened and closed the front panel's door no matter how gentle i am). So if anyone else runs into this problem, check the wiring first.

4 out of 5 eggsGood no-frills case.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: There isn't really much to it. Building in it is straight forward. It looks really slick and doesn't impose itself in the room.

If you remain conservative with your fans and don't run them full blast all the time, it is whisper quiet.

Cons: The top panel feels really thin as it is just a single sheet of metal. Probably does not affect anything in any way but just something I noticed.

I did not choose an aio watercooler for my cpu but it looks like you would need a very low profile radiator for it to fit up top. Clearance could present itself as an issue if you go that route.

Other Thoughts: It does not have a separate power supply compartment to hide it and the cables down there. So the small window serves to hide that area.

The other cons were fixed with the R5 case. On the R4 the bottom dust filter can only be removed from the back. And the SSD mounts behind the MB are not that great. R5 addressed both these cons. I would recommend the R5 at this point in time.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality product, thoughtfully designed and flexible to accommodate expansion of cooling and storage.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: The very easy removable drive bays made getting the right balance of storage and optimum air flow a breeze.
The voluminous amounts of space in the back compartment made cable management a snap in this mid tower.
The clean look of the case.
the many cut outs to run cables allowed for a much more amount customization.
fabulous case for the price.

Cons: Just a small thing but maybe allowing a little more room inside top of case. I was able to place a Corsair H100i GTX at the top but had to offset a bit.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this product to anyone wishing to build a gaming or any computer in that matter that will meet your needs now and as you upgrade.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case!

Pros: It has everything I was looking for. Solid case and plenty of room for components.

Cons: Front fan power cord was a bit short, but nothing an extender couldn't fix.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat First Case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Used for first gaming PC build. There is plenty to like about this case for upgradeability:
Plenty of expansion room
Removable bays
Plenty of room for good cable management

Cons: May be slightly bigger than expected, but again, makes it easy to work with inside the case

Other Thoughts: Would recommend product highly
