The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs. The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Fully Transparent Side Panel Window The acrylic window side panel features the same clean, Scandinavian design as the case itself, and has a completely flat outer surface without any plastic bezel or rivets, allowing you to display your setup in style.
  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg Innovative SSD Mounting Options Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5in, SSDs out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg Integrated Fan Controller Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg Advanced Cable Management Over 1in. of space behind the motherboard plate means cables can be conveniently routed through five rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Case, Arrived Disfunctional

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Sleek design, highly adjustable HDD cages, room for organization, and built in fan controller.

Cons: Unfortunately, my power LED did not work on unboxing. Never bothered with an RMA, but it did effect my rating. Would give it a 5/5 otherwise.

4 out of 5 eggsDefine R4 is everything you need and more.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Great design. Easy to set up. Has 2 fans and comes with easy to clean filters which can help prevent dust from entering the case.

Cons: Window is dust magnet. Legs not the same height so it wobbles if pressure is placed on corners. No instructions

Other Thoughts: Happy with my purchase! R4 is a smooth looking beast.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome case to build with

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: *Very roomy and easy to work with...plenty of room for cable management.
*Cooling is very good.
*Quiet computing.
* Very sturdy side panels with sound dampening material
* Fan controller works great
* Nice solid window
* Built-in front fan intake Filters easy to remove & clean

Cons: * # 1 complaint with this case is that the top and bottom are kinda flimsy...thin metal.
* I would recommend not installing fans in top or bottom of case, but I do recommend installing one extra intake fan and removing one of the hdd cages if you can to improve airflow.
* SSD mounts require motherboard removal if you're going to add one later (so make sure you mount BEFORE installing motherboard.
* PSU fan filter is long and a pain to remove if you have no access to the back of the system (most case manufacture's use this setup, so not really a con)...would have been better to use a smaller filter or a way to slide it in & out from the front of the case.

Other Thoughts: I really like this case, but do wish it had thicker steel on top & bottom of case (especially the top)...if you install a fan in the top, you will see what I mean. (better to leave sound dampening material installed instead of installing fans). But I did not deduct an egg for this as it was only $89.99 with free shipping...You absolutely cannot go wrong at this price...but I would have been willing to pay $20-$30 more for thicker steel,,,then it would be a perfect case for me!

5 out of 5 eggsFractal Define R4 Black Pearl

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: 1. Size - perfect to house powerful hardware without being cramped. 2. Build quality - the steel is strong, the finish is great. Looks and feels like a quality piece. 3. Side window - big enough to show off the goodies, but still cover up the uglies!

Cons: Fan controller is Molex plug. Would like to see a SATA version. Power LED is blue. Would LOVE to see a white one. If you mount a 240mm radiator on top, it HAS to have slim fans or you will have to mod it.

Other Thoughts: This is my THIRD Fractal R4. I have had 2 white ones (1 windowed, 1 non-windowed), and this black pearl one. I got the black one because the price was right for my new build, but I also knew I was getting a quality piece. The materials are high quality (padded sides, STEEL drive trays and cages, rubber feet). It's a little plain looking (Scandinavian minimalist design) but at least it's not all plastic and covered with obnoxious 1337 Gamerz LEDs and such. It's clean and classy.

5 out of 5 eggsBest case for first time builders.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: * 1" or more of cable management space
* Plenty of room to work with
* Gorgeous Window
* Impressive Sound Dampening
*Comes with spare screws and cable ties
* Built in fan controller for up to 3 fans
* Built in fan filters for front intake and PSU
*Case fans are Silent

Cons: *Blue LED power light
* PSU Fan filter can be hard to align
* Mounting rad to top lessens noise dampening

Other Thoughts: All in all i have nothing but love for the R4, i can see why its one of the most popular cases on market today. Ample workspace was a boon- i have fairly large hands and it was still easy to maneuver inside the case.

All in all the few issues the r4 has (if you would call them that) can be solved with a little prep-time, if your going to use an all in one like the Kraken X61 or H110 mount it as a front intake if you really want the case to stay silent, leave ample room behind your case to line up the PSU fan filter.

The LED is also surprisingly easy to replace- im surprised by fractals choice of using a Blue LED on their black case and a Red Led on their white case considering Black-Red and White-Blue are two of the most popular build color schemes.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat replacement for Antec 1200 IMO

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Everything about this case screams quality:
From the sturdy metal and thick plastic front to the not at all flimsy front USB and audio ports. everything I had in my antec 1200 fits in here, meaning my SpinQ heatsink and GTX 770 along with a Asus Sabertooth z77. Still have enough room to go 3 way sli (if I ever wanted to).
Noticeable quietness with the same efficiency in cooling thanks to, not more fans (went from 7 on my Antec 1200 over to 3 on this) but b/c of the negative pressure principle.

Cons: On the window version, theres no side fan mounting holes, its just plain acrylic which I cant really complain (can make them if I want) but its not really a con, might be for some people.

Other Thoughts: overall happy with the new case

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Case with Excellent Support

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This is the quietest case I have ever owned. The construction is very impressive too, it feels very solid. Plenty of room for the biggest graphics card you could ever dream of.

Cheap- Got mine on sale for $80 with free shipping

Cons: My rear exhaust fan made a sound similar to someone tapping their nail a desk. I would dock an egg for this but support made up for it. (see below)

Other Thoughts: Sunday night I sent Fractal an e-mail stating my fan issue and by 8:30 Monday morning, I had a reply. After providing my name, phone number, shipping address, and case serial number, I had a FedEx tracking number before 10:30 the same day with my replacement fan on the way. I have never received support like this ever. Topnotch case by a topnotch company. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

5 out of 5 eggsEasily the best case I've ever owned

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case is spacious, quiet and well thought out. The removable hard drive cage allows you to fit ridiculously long video cards with no effort. All of the sharp edges are rounded and the paintjob is solid too.

Cons: It's a little bit large so it looks kind of comical sitting on the milk crate I use to keep my tower off of the carpet. The mount for the front air filter seems a little flimsy as well... That's really all I can say. Other than that this thing is a dream.

Other Thoughts: I have used institutional Dell cases, Raidmax, Thermaltakes, LL's and probably forgotten quite a few... For the price and quality this is the best you can get.
