The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs. The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Fully Transparent Side Panel Window The acrylic window side panel features the same clean, Scandinavian design as the case itself, and has a completely flat outer surface without any plastic bezel or rivets, allowing you to display your setup in style.
  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg Innovative SSD Mounting Options Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5in, SSDs out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg Integrated Fan Controller Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg Advanced Cable Management Over 1in. of space behind the motherboard plate means cables can be conveniently routed through five rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and awesome

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case is awesome. Very functional, very quiet. You lose a little of the quietness with the side window I think, but that's no big deal, cause I like looking at my mobo. The space in this thing is perfect. I love the front door for the optical drives. I just covered it in stickers. So yeah great case.

Cons: None for me, its functions as advertised. and the USB slots have never failed me in over a year.

5 out of 5 eggsMi favorito

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: A well thought out design. There is more than ample room for SLI, Cord Management, Storage/RAID, Cooling/Airflow

Stock fans, filters and speed controls are nice.

It's classy, not too flashy. Big but not too big.

Sturdy steel materials. Even plastic parts are strong.

Cons: There is nothing bad about this case.

Other Thoughts: I got it for about $65 on sale. There is no reason you should have to pay more than $100 for a case. Everything you need is right here.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Large, strudy, window, removable HD cage, plenty of space for cable management, not going to get knocked over, keeps the noise level down, really nice to build into.

Cons: the door opens to the left so when it sits on my right its inconvenient... but I rarely have to open the door. Not really a "con" for me, but it may be for other ppl who burn cds often.

The white in the computer was not what I was looking for, but I went out and bought about $10 in painting supplies and painted the inside of my case (the white parts) black so it would match my color scheme. It looks amazing now.

Other Thoughts: I cant believe I haven't reviewed this item yet. This is my first case and I bought it with the thought of having it for a long long time. After building in this and rebuilding in it, I have no doubt I have chosen the right case for me.

With the removable HD cage you dont have to worry about having a long card. In fact, if you dont want to take out the HD cage and simply just turn it so the open side is face towards the front and back of the case it allows for better air flow and more room for long GPUs.

You should note that this case is HEAVY. No joke, but for me thats a good thing, I dont want some flimsy plastic case that vibrates when Im putting my components underload. Nor do I want a case that is so light that if I bang my knee against my desk it will shake it off balance.

BUY! Is the underlining message here folks

5 out of 5 eggsCool &Quiet

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: - good placement of cable routing holes
- dust filters for all inlet fans
- removable hdd cages and mounting positions for two ssd's behind the motherboard though I may not use them
- good overall layout and design
- sleeves on all cables
- quality construction

Cons: - only two external 5.25" bays, one is my optical drive and the other is for cards & additional usb's, would've liked one more for temp/fan controls
- very happy with the layout and price ($79.00 on sale) so nothing I'd deduct an egg for

Other Thoughts: The venting for the front fans worried me a little bit but temps have been fine, added one more of their fans up front for a total of three

Coming from an Antec 900, i like the simple exterior

5 out of 5 eggsFractal Design - Swedish for AMAZING!

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: I love the design of this case simple and elegant. It is also fairly easy to work with, even though I have these ogre like hangs with fingers of butter. 3 way fan controller, silent design, quality construction aluminium(minus the cons part of course), and great air flow.

Cons: most of the standard issues have been noted all minor ones at that and have been improved in the define r5. I was however not expecting the flimsy metal at the 2 140mm fan mounting locations at the top and the flimsy metal athe the 120/140mm mounting location at the bottom. Also be wary of PSU length as it can cut you off from mounting a bottom intake fan.

Other Thoughts: Yes I know I have some minor issues with this case, but the overall quality is fantastic. Using all 6 fan slots at full speed it's still a fairly silent case. Even though it has it's downs it's still just to beautiful to me to pass up :)

1 out of 5 eggsHDD vibration really bad =(

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Silent Case, a lot of room for cable management, case looks great

Cons: The case would be 5 starts for me but I put my computer together and it;s silent but it emits a vibration that you can feel it in the entire desk , so i started to listen and see where the vibration is coming from and it's from the bottom hard drive cage my HD is making it vibrate , I remounted the hard drive to different slots and using the provided rubber mounts and screws and nada , I unplug the hard drive so it doesn't spin and the vibration is gone , so I'm 100% sure is my hard drive but no matter where I mount the hard drive the vibration is felt.

I googed this problem and voila! there are other several threads having the same problem with the hdd vibration with this case, this isn't good if many are reporting the same thing, I'm disappointed at Fractal if they didn't do any Q&A with different hard drive speeds because this day of age it should not be experiencing this problem. My old antec 900 didn't had any issues with the same hard drive for example.

I want to know if Fractal has a solution to this or if anyone has any advice before requesting a RMA from newegg.

thanks

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case with Excellent Support

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: I bought this case on sale for Black Friday to build a new computer to replace a six year old one. The case is big but that's obvious and to me a pro. There is plenty of room to work with and the attention to detail taken in designing it is clear. I'm not a fan of overly flashy designs or LEDs so this was the clear choice for me.

About a week ago my clumsyness got the best of me and I tripped over some headphones that were plugged into the front audio out damaging the port. I contacted Fractal Design hoping to buy a replacement and they kindly shipped me a courtesy replacement which was very simple to install and arrived quickly. They've ensured my next case purchase will be another from Fractal Design.

Cons: The new R5 case came out a few weeks ago so I likely would recommend that since it's an evolution of this case but either way you'll be satisfied.
