The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs. The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Fully Transparent Side Panel Window The acrylic window side panel features the same clean, Scandinavian design as the case itself, and has a completely flat outer surface without any plastic bezel or rivets, allowing you to display your setup in style.
  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg Innovative SSD Mounting Options Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5in, SSDs out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg Integrated Fan Controller Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg Advanced Cable Management Over 1in. of space behind the motherboard plate means cables can be conveniently routed through five rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing !!!

Pros: It's asking me for pro. Where to start this case is amazing every thing is a pro.

Cons: I can find any thing wrong with the case unless you count that fact that the ssd mounts on the back require you to install it before the mobo but, that's really your fault for not remembering. And some people like to say what if your adding a ssd well USE THE DAM TRAYS OR JUST TAPE IT ON THE BACK IT'S A SSD ITS NOT GOING TO BREAK WHEN BUMPED AROUND.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this to anyone and will recommend this to my brother it's amazing.

5 out of 5 eggsLove It - Recommended

Pros: - Sleek, clean, mature design
- Lots of room for core parts (*maybe* tight for water cooling, probably not)
- Great cable management - dedicated rubber grips and space behind motherboard stand.
- USB 3.0 on the front
- Closeable front panel (LOVE THIS!) with magnets.
- Sound dampening makes it absolutely silent. Sometimes scary silent (is my computer even alive!?)

Cons: Uhhhhhhhh.... None? I can't think of anything, before build, during build, or after build. MAYBE the front cover is plastic? But it's good quality plastic.

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a sleek, mature design this is it. It's quiet and professional - yet it still looks mean wit hthe window on the side. This appeals to anyone, gamer or professional. It's incredibly silent even with the window. Love it!

5 out of 5 eggsFractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case came in perfect condition. Nothing was wrong with it. Reason I bought this case because of the clean sleek looking front panel. I'll be adding a sick looking logo which will make the case even more sexier than is already is. =)

- Very premium looking case and very nice design
- Very High quality build
- Come with window sided panel
- Come with 2 140mm fan
- Come with noise dampening materials
- Adjustable fan speed from 5v,7v to 12v.
- Alot of dust fliters
- Removable HDD case
- Love the cable management in this case and come with many grommets
- Power LED(atlhough i prefer green instead of blue)
- Lots of airflow
- Very quiet case
- You can mount many fans
- 4 USB ports on top(2 USB 3.0)
- Plenty of storage space
- Plenty of room to install components
- Came with many accessory in the box
- The bottom of the case come with nice chrome feet that give the case good lift into the air.

All in all this is a very high premium looking case. I love it.

Cons: I can't really say anything bad about this case. Although the fan controller only supports 3 fans I would love to see more. It was kind of expensive but it was worth it though. I want all black interior edition which I believed is coming out soon too bad I already got this one. =/ I don't like the blue power led though I prefer green to match with my green colour scheme that got going on.

Overall nothing bad I can say about this case. I give it 5 out of 5 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in Class

Pros: Minimalistic, professional look.
All steel and plastic parts are high quality and fully painted.
Bottom mounted PSU with cable management galore.
Room for up to six 140mm or 120mm fans and comes with two 140mm fans.
Bottom and front fan filters are included with easy access.
Lots of airflow, but also incredibly quiet and includes sound dampening materials.
Removable HDD cage yields room for massive video card installation.
Both side panels and the front panel come off easily and snap back together satisfyingly.
Included hardware is labeled and provided in separate bags to keep things organized.
New car (case?) smell.

Cons: Fan controller only supports three fans. At least four would be preferable. Even so, I have a hard time even calling this a con because at this price point, I don't expect a case to even have a fan controller, but I didn't have a bunch of extra fans anyway, so it worked out. I moved the front 140mm fan to the top position so it blows directly at the video card with the HDD cage removed. I kept the 140mm fan in the back and added a 120mm Scythe fan on the bottom, all hooked to the three speed fan controller.

You might consider putting a radiator up top to support water cooling, but beware, as other reviews note that space is severely limited and will not fit all radiators. Again, I don't even expect a case at this price point to even think about water cooling, but there it is. I just left this area sealed off with Fractal's sound dampening materials.

Other Thoughts: There is no side air duct on this model because it is the windowed version.

I couldn't figure out how to install a 120mm fan in the front of the case without major surgery. It appears to support them, but they don't snap in like the 140s, so be aware of that or take it as a challenge. I didn't consult the manual either, so it might be a read the manual thing.

The case allows a 140mm fan mounted at the bottom of the case to suck air from beneath the case through the air filter, which also filters air for your PSU, however, my PSU was too big and I had to settle for a 120mm Scythe fan in the bottom instead.

The shrink wrap tubing used on one of the fans had slipped off, causing the mesh around the wires to fray out and look all nastysause. A trip to the hardware store to get shrink wrap tubing and carefully removing the fan plug to slip the tubing over the wires was necessary here. A well placed zip tie (included with the case) keeps it in place now.

You will most likely need to sign for this package and/or be present to receive it upon delivery. My case was shipped incredibly fast via LaserShip. I am talking literally one day turn around here and that was with free shipping too. However, since I work all day all week, I missed both delivery attempts and LaserShip was unwilling to leave the package, even though I had signed for it to be left at my door after the first delivery attempt.

It would be nice if newegg could be more explicit on what you can expect when your package arrives. Most of the time when I buy hardware from newegg, the driver just leaves the package at the door, but I can see why this would be considered a special case, being that it looks like a full-blown computer to the untrained eye. I just wish that I could have known about the policy ahead of time and either given explicit permission through newegg to have the package left at my door, or make other arrangements ahead of time to pick it up at another location.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

Pros: lots of space for parts and cable management
easy to configure
good ventilation
nice design
lots of HDD space in the removable HDD rack
comes with many extra screws

Cons: the plastic piece that you open to access front fans is weak, one of the prongs to keep it closed snapped off of my case. The second prong is still intact though, so it is still usable. It is not noticeable from the outside

Other Thoughts: A very sleek design in my opinion, a much more minimalist approach. I am not a fan at all of many gaming specific cases that look quite overdone and alien-esque

5 out of 5 eggsSexy Case

Pros: 140mm Fans all around
Dust filters
Silent design
Sleek front panel look
4 USB ports (2 USB 3.0) on top
Plenty of storage space
Easy expansion options such as watercooling
VERY high quality build
Magnetic latches for front panel

Cons: Price
Only 2 DVD drive slots

Other Thoughts: This case is an awesome case. I got it on sale and it was money well spent. It looks amazing and has a lot of great features. I mainly bought this for the looks and for the expansion options. I shouldn't need another case ever again. I keep this on a long carpet at all times and after having it for about 6 months there isn't a spec of dust on the inside. The dust filters are doing their job and will probably need to be cleaned about once a year. They are easily removable. I added another 140mm fan to the front and there are placement options for 3 more. The front door feels very solid. The entire case is extremely well built with all parts painted. I will definitely be buying another Fractal Design case for any future builds I decide to do. Keep up the good job Fractal!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic case

Pros: Build quality is fantastic

Very sleek looking case; love the minimalist design + the window.

Soundproofing foam throughout the case.

Enough room to fit 99% of builds. Plenty of space for closed loop CPU water coolers (I believe even the 140mm coolers like the H110 will fit), multiple graphics cards, extra case fans, etc. Plenty of space for tall CPU heatsinks as well (made an NH-D14 look very ordinary!).

Nice cable management

Built in fan controller, though a bit minimalistic, is nice. It's at least sufficient for the stock fans.

Cons: 2 minor things:

1) I wish the front panel connectors were longer. If they have to reach to the back of the case, you won't be able to hide them easily, as they're only just long enough to reach the bottom rear of the case, and on some motherboards that's where they'll need to go.

2) I didn't really like some of the screws the case came with. I had problems with the motherboard risers being too tight for the motherboard screws that were included. Also not a big fan of the design of the motherboard screws they include. This wasn't a big enough issue to dock an egg for, but I recommend using your own motherboard risers and screws if you already have them laying around.

Other Thoughts: Really love this case. Easy to build in and looks awesome! Very highly recommended to anyone wanting a mid tower as long as you don't need to put tons of large (360mm) water cooling radiators in it.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Case

Pros: More than enough space to build, cable space is great. I am used to this already built more compact cases. Compared to those, this thing is a monster but it still fits on my desk with a 24 inch monitor. Power button is well made not flimsy and comes with a blue led light that you can either connect to power or hdd connection.

Cons: Wish it had one more 5.25 bay. It only comes with 2 but I knew this going in.

Other Thoughts: My Build:
MSI G45 Gaming MB
MSI GTX 760 ITX model
H80i cpu cooler
Crucial Ballistic Sport 16gb w/ led lights
Crucial M500 240gb SSD
WD Black 1tb HDD
LG Blu-ray
Seasonic 660w Platinum PS
Asus 24" Monitor

5 out of 5 eggsEverything I was looking for

Pros: This case gave me everything I was looking for and then some. First off the case is solid. From the chrome rounded feet to the fabric interior of the back panel, the case is quite nice. There is plenty of space for upgrades. Multiple drive bays with easy metal mounting clips along with the cable management, made this build fairly easy to put together. The last surprising feature was how acoustically sound the case was. When I started the PC before closing side panel my gpu was revving quite loud but the second I slapped the side panel on I could hardly hear anything. Still to this day with OC the gpu and running something like Metro Last Light on max, I hear my fridge humming before I hear a sound coming from this case.

Cons: It's hard to come up with cons to this case since it gave me everything my old case didn't. Some cons for some people might think of is size. With all the additional cable management space makes the unit thicker. Which is something people could over look if space is a necessity. In all reality I can't really think of anything at the moment.

Other Thoughts: All around this case was everything I was looking for. It is solid from the ground up, very quiet, has plenty of space, easy hard drive mounting clips, and more than enough room for upgrades. Unlike previous cases I've had, this one will probably stick with me for awhile.
