The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building on the award-winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features, premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features.

No longer are you forced to choose between silence and support for liquid cooling, the Define R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240 radiators to be mounted internally and select slim radiators can also be mounted in the front fan holder. An integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel, putting fan control at your fingertips. Cable management and intelligent layout are taken to new levels with the option of mounting up to two 2.5in, SSDs on the reverse side of the motherboard tray, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. When it comes to cable routing, the Define R4 has it covered. Over one full inch of cable routing space behind the motherboard plate has been achieved by widening the case by just 8mm.

This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications. The R4 comes pre-fitted with dense noise absorbing bitumen material on the front, top and side panels. The exclusive ModuVent TM System provides three panels which also have noise-absorbing material; these panels can be removed to expose three air vents for additional fans for high air flow applications. Rubber padding on the case feet, anti-vibration pads for the power supply and HDDs also help reduce noise.

Configuration flexibility is enhanced thanks to two hard drive cages (featuring steel drive trays with black silicone mounting grommets) that support a total of eight 3.5in. HDDs or 2.5in. SSDs. The top five-bay cage is easily rotatable and removable; removing the top cage allows support for graphics cards up to 470mm in length. The bottom three-bay cage is mounted to the chassis by screws instead of rivets, allowing you to easily remove both drive cages for complete flexibility. The spacious sleek black interior can support CPU coolers up to 170mm high. If cooling becomes more of a priority, this system can support up to seven fans with removable, washable filters to provide airflow from five sides of the case. The case also includes cable routing cutouts with improved rubber grommets to ensure greater fit and retention. The bottom of the case has a filter over the power supply and 120/140mm intake fan vent which can be easily removed for cleaning.

  • newegg Fully Transparent Side Panel Window The acrylic window side panel features the same clean, Scandinavian design as the case itself, and has a completely flat outer surface without any plastic bezel or rivets, allowing you to display your setup in style.
  • newegg Optimized for Noise Reduction Pre-fitted with dense noise-absorbing material, the R4 also features ModuVent panels which prevent noise from escaping unused fan vents when silence is required. If cooling becomes more of a priority than noise reduction, the ModuVent panels can be removed to expose additional air vents for optional fans.
  • newegg Support for Liquid Cooling You no longer have to make the choice between liquid cooling and silence, the R4 offers both. Top fan positions now allow slim 240mm radiators to be mounted. Select slim radiators can be mounted in the front fan holder (requires the bottom HDD cage to change position).
  • newegg Innovative SSD Mounting Options Hide those drives! Take cable management and interior cleanliness to a whole new level. Mount up to two 2.5in, SSDs out of sight on the back side of the motherboard tray.
  • newegg Integrated Fan Controller Fan control at your fingertips. The integrated fan controller is easily accessible behind the front panel and manages up to three fans, allowing you to tailor the fan speed to your needs.
  • newegg Advanced Cable Management Over 1in. of space behind the motherboard plate means cables can be conveniently routed through five rubber grommets into a generous compartment behind the motherboard to reduce cable clutter and improve airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, quiet case with a lot of room.

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case has so much room it's awesome. The room for cable management alone makes for the cleanest build possible. It is also lined with sound proof foam and even with a side window, the only thing I can hear are my fans when they are at high RPM's. The built-in fan controller is very handy if you choose to use it although I went with software controlled. The input/USB ports on the top front make hooking hardware up easy. The filters located on the front and bottom help a lot in filtering dust out and they are very easy to clean. Moving air through this case is so easy as you have room for up to six 140mm case fans, a 140mm CPU fan, and GPU fans. Also, it has a removable cage for your hard drives so you if you are only running three drives, the cage will not get in the way of the front fans. It's just very functional.

There are just so many good aspects about this case so it's hard to list them all. It's just a solid case. It's easy to clean as you can gain access from both sides and the front and the temp's are great as long as you get the air flow right.

Cons: There are a few cons about this case but nothing serious in my opinion except for the front panel.

Even though it is listed as a mid-tower case, it is BIG and heavy. The front of the case is a bit sketchy as if you pick it up and grab under the front, it CAN pop the front off and.... *CRASH* right into the floor. Luckily, that hasn't happened. Fitting the case into spaces that a normal mid-tower case will fit is an issue as well. The front magnetic door will not stay open on it's own.. you have to pop the filter down to prop it open. The LED light on the front can be annoying as it is too bright... it will light up a dark room. The silent series fans that came with it are decent fans and are very quiet but there are better fans that will move more air (Noctua for instance although I may be bias). I'm sure there are some other minor issues but I just wanted to go over the ones I've noticed.

Other Thoughts: I made sure that I took ALL measurements into consideration before purchasing this case for clearance issues and was still surprised how big it was when it showed up. My CPU Cooler cleared easily and I use a Noctua NH-U14S which is fairly large and 1.7lbs with one fan. The size of the case allows for great temp's as I mentioned before. I run a i7-4770K at stock unless I NEED my OC XMP profile enabled for gaming and at stock, the idle temp's are about 30C on each core +/- 1C. The same for the GPU which is a EVGA 770 GTX 2GB SC w/ ACX and my SSD/HDD. In sleep mode.. my CPU has been down to 13C.

My power supply cables are routed through the side panel and are completely out of the way of ANY fans. The sound dampening keeps everything nice and quiet. Overall, it's a great case and as long as the size and weight aren't an issue, you can't really go wrong with this one. Good job Fractal.

4 out of 5 eggsperfect case for my build

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: -Loads of space to build and alot of behind the mobo cable space
-comes with pretty good pre-installed 140mm fans
-has amazing vibration reduction
-has all of the hdd bays you could ever need

Cons: ***these are not cons***

most have said the case bows inward i dont see thing as a con if they were flat they would bow if you put pressure on the out side. so this is a pro in my eyes

Other Thoughts: nice case fits my coolermaster 212+ evo no problem and has enough room for 6 hdds and a 11.5 inch gpu.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good case

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Love this case. It's a bit on the heavy side, but definitely sturdy. The noise-dampening is really good, my case stays relatively quiet, lots of room, cable management. Sleek and minimalistic design.

Cons: None, case is great.

Other Thoughts: Well worth the money, and would recommend to anybody.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Sturdy, great cable management, heavy duty wiring, good air flow

Cons: It's on the heavy side. But that's a trade off for being as sturdy as it is.

Other Thoughts: This was my first build. I initially tried to save some money on the case but found that didn't work so well. I bought this as a replacement and was much happier with it.

I loved how much space it had for cable management. The built in wiring was a nice gauge and not too thin and fragile. The case is very heavy duty and din't flex.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and awesome

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: This case is awesome. Very functional, very quiet. You lose a little of the quietness with the side window I think, but that's no big deal, cause I like looking at my mobo. The space in this thing is perfect. I love the front door for the optical drives. I just covered it in stickers. So yeah great case.

Cons: None for me, its functions as advertised. and the USB slots have never failed me in over a year.

5 out of 5 eggsMi favorito

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: A well thought out design. There is more than ample room for SLI, Cord Management, Storage/RAID, Cooling/Airflow

Stock fans, filters and speed controls are nice.

It's classy, not too flashy. Big but not too big.

Sturdy steel materials. Even plastic parts are strong.

Cons: There is nothing bad about this case.

Other Thoughts: I got it for about $65 on sale. There is no reason you should have to pay more than $100 for a case. Everything you need is right here.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: Large, strudy, window, removable HD cage, plenty of space for cable management, not going to get knocked over, keeps the noise level down, really nice to build into.

Cons: the door opens to the left so when it sits on my right its inconvenient... but I rarely have to open the door. Not really a "con" for me, but it may be for other ppl who burn cds often.

The white in the computer was not what I was looking for, but I went out and bought about $10 in painting supplies and painted the inside of my case (the white parts) black so it would match my color scheme. It looks amazing now.

Other Thoughts: I cant believe I haven't reviewed this item yet. This is my first case and I bought it with the thought of having it for a long long time. After building in this and rebuilding in it, I have no doubt I have chosen the right case for me.

With the removable HD cage you dont have to worry about having a long card. In fact, if you dont want to take out the HD cage and simply just turn it so the open side is face towards the front and back of the case it allows for better air flow and more room for long GPUs.

You should note that this case is HEAVY. No joke, but for me thats a good thing, I dont want some flimsy plastic case that vibrates when Im putting my components underload. Nor do I want a case that is so light that if I bang my knee against my desk it will shake it off balance.

BUY! Is the underlining message here folks

5 out of 5 eggsCool &Quiet

This review is from: Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl Silent ATX Mid Tower Case

Pros: - good placement of cable routing holes
- dust filters for all inlet fans
- removable hdd cages and mounting positions for two ssd's behind the motherboard though I may not use them
- good overall layout and design
- sleeves on all cables
- quality construction

Cons: - only two external 5.25" bays, one is my optical drive and the other is for cards & additional usb's, would've liked one more for temp/fan controls
- very happy with the layout and price ($79.00 on sale) so nothing I'd deduct an egg for

Other Thoughts: The venting for the front fans worried me a little bit but temps have been fine, added one more of their fans up front for a total of three

Coming from an Antec 900, i like the simple exterior
