Thermaltake's VI1000BWS is an affordable, no-nonsense case that combines style, function and performance. Part of the M9 series of mid-tower cases, it has plenty of room for expansion and tons of potential for modders. It holds up to nine 5.25" drives with the option to convert one of the external bays being convertible to mount a 3.5" drive. The three internal drives mount into a front removable cage – and like the other drives install easily without tools.

Up to 7 expansion cards can be installed as well – again without tools. Most standard ATX boards will install effortlessly thanks to the standoffs built into the motherboard tray. The entire case is cooled by a pair of silent, blue LED 120mm fans which draw air through the metal grille front bezel and out through the rear of the case.

A ducted mount is included for a fan to cool the VGA cards through the clear X-shaped side window and provisions are made for additional 80mm, 90mm and 120mm fans. A pair of easily accessible USB 2.0 ports are located at the top of the front plate along with HD audio input and output jacks.

  • newegg Excellent Expandability with 9 Drive Bays Featuring six 5.25" external drive bays (one convertible to 3.5" external drive bay) and three 3.5" internal drive bays, the Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS provides excellent expandability.
  • newegg Efficient Ventilation Dual 120mm blue LED cooling fans ensure highly-efficient ventilation for great heat dissipation. The mesh front panel maximizes airflow of the inner system and reveals the cool LED lights for added stylishness and eye-catching fun.
  • newegg Transparent Side Panel Window The Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS’s fantastic transparent side panel window provides a direct view of the inner system.
  • newegg Tool-free Installation The tool-free design ensures quick installation and upgrade for expansion cards, 5.25" and 3.5" devices to save your time. Start enjoying computing rapidly!
  • newegg Convenient Front I/O Panel The Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS features a convenient front I/O panel for easy access to two USB 2.0 and two audio ports.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Typical Thermaltake high quality. Tt have improved the front panel wiring over the years. This is a compact mid tower that has enough room inside for current spec hwd.

Cons: Thermaltake --- ditch the molex fan connectors and switch to 3-pin similar to your specs on your A2018 fans.
Since this is a clear door model, Tt should assume customers will do a tidy wiring job, and molex connectors are hard to hide. BTW, dont count on the cpu intake duct shroud lining up w/ the cpu fan centerline. My opinion is that mis-reqistered cooling ductwork does not look professional.

Other Thoughts: I knew before I purchased this case that I would replace the Tt vented window w/ .080 optical grade acrylic, because I add a front 120 filtered fan and run positive case pressure for dust control. So, it still gets 5 eggs for the base Tt high quaility, and Newegg did its typical A+ job on price and delivery.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Case

Pros: This case has plenty of room, I put my full ATX board in and still have plenty of mobility and space within the case. This thing looks great too and I would have to say that the build quality and strength are very high. Needless to say I am very impressed and would definitely buy this again for another build.

Gigabyte ga-ma770T-ud39
Nvidea GEFORCE 512 Video
Orion 500w power supply
Phenom II 550 BE processor
Patriot 2GB (single) RAM

Lights up very well, lots of cool air, OVERALL VERY IMPRESSED, GREAT FIRST BUILD! Came with everything I needed (screws) too

Cons: Only thing I didnt like was the quick connects for the pci slots, they were very loose but its okay because you can still sink the screws in to them if need be

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: This case is very sleek, looks really good. Easy install, has plenty of screws included, and the fans are very quiet. Plus, the blue LEDs look GREAT

Cons: The side door seems a bit flimsy, I can see it becoming a problem if constantly opening/closing it.

Other Thoughts: ASUS P7P55D
Intel Core i5 750
4g G.Skill DDR3
64bit WinXP

2 out of 5 eggsLess than happy

Pros: Nice looking case, roomy.

Cons: as others pointed out, the power button breaks almost immediately. Not a big problem so long as you don't remove the front panel, since that holds it in place.

The fans are actually quite loud and the cooling is mediocre if you have any kind of warm climate in the room. If you're considering cases, I highly urge you to choose one with a TOP mounted fan in addition to the rest. Heat rises, and I don't know why more cases don't have them. considering there are other excellent cases around this price, I can't say I recommend it.

Other Thoughts: Almost no wire management and the bays require screws, whereas many cases have tool-less design and wire management. I just couldn't justify this purchase unless it was a dollar.

3 out of 5 eggsDoes the job (sort of)

Pros: Cool looking
Filters (if side covered)
Screwless (mostly)
120mm Blue fans

Cons: Fragile front panel and it's hard to get off (without breaking)
Both audio jacks don't work stably after a lot of use
Be careful with the power button cuz it will come out (permanently)
Stupid side slots defied the point of the great filters and obscure view. (I covered the slots from the inside using clear tape and now my inside has been completely dust free)
I had to use chop sticks to get the HD screws in. (you'd know what I mean if you saw how hard it is to get them in there)
Side panel flimsy so it's not good if you need to move this case a lot

Other Thoughts: Once the inside is all settled and the wires are tucked away it's ok.
But I would not recommend this to a friend. You could get an awesome antec 900 instead.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,
Please contact so we can replace the broken part(s) for you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case

Pros: Great air flow. The fact you dont need screws for the expansion slots. HDD Cage comes out VERY easily. i have had no problems with the HDD Cage. Just pull it out the front, Simple. Well Built. Sturdy.

Cons: Not really a con.. One of the brackets on the power button broke, but it does not effect the overall functionality, so its no biggie at all.

Other Thoughts: Well worth the purchase. You wont regret it.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works.

Pros: Lots of cooling. I've actually use all the fan ports as exhaust (except the front factory fan) and let the air in through the top-to-bottom-mesh front. It acts like a good dust filter and I simply vaccume it off every once in a while. Keeps my MOBO below 40 celcius. I7-920 below 60 celcius.

Cons: No easy way to unplug the side fans except from the motherboard. Clear plastic seems cheap and flimsy, but has help up so far (almost a year).

Other Thoughts: ASUS p6t
i7-920 overclocked 3360mhz.
Theraltake V1 air cooler.
GTX 260
Two hard drives, two DVD's, 3.5 disk and card reader

2 out of 5 eggsBad power switch design

Pros: Nice looking case and tooless design got it cheap with rebate
Nice cooling with air filter fittings that can be cleaned

Cons: The stupid power switch is of inferior design had broken sever times. It's a plastic spring design just can't handle continuous usage. Maybe thermaltake has updated it since I bought my unit. It's strand that such a high quality case in every respect has such a bad shortcoming
