The Cosmos 1000 from Cooler Master has an acoustical performance that reminds you of the quiet of space. Extreme sound suppression was a primary focus of the design. All four of the fans are 120mm to move the most air with the least noise. The two fans on the top blow air out through a louvered duct and the intake fan is on the bottoms and pulls air up through a filter. The side panels are covered in a sound deadening material.

But it isn't just about keeping things cool, convenience also played an important role in the design process. The five external 5.25" bays have a one button locking system to secure the drives in place. Six hard drives can be installed in individual cages with sound deadening grommets. The cages and expansion slot screws are all thumb screws so you don’t need to worry about finding a screwdriver, though one is included.

At the top of the case is the control and connection panel with the power and reset buttons, plus the status LEDs. They've also included a FireWire port, eSATA port and audio jacks. Four USB ports let you connect your peripherals without having to reach around the back of your case.

  • newegg Supreme Expandability with 11 Drive Bays Boasting five external 5.25" drive bays, and six internal 3.5" drive bays, the Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 provides supreme expandability.

4 out of 5 eggsCosmos

Pros: Huge and well built! The case feels solid when handled and there is plenty of room inside for whatever you might need. My Zalman 9900A CPU fan fit with room to spare. Along with the Zalman cooler I added 2 more 120mm fans, one in the provided mount above the HDD (it does eliminate the use of the bottom 2 optical slots but I moved the 3.5" up for my fan controller) and another mounted on the HDD cage side through some creative crafting. That makes 6 120mm coolermaster fans plus the CPU cooler and I am honestly surprised that even when running full out the noise level never exceeds a hum of ambiance. With a newborn in the house this is a huge huge plus.

Cons: I'm not one who deducts eggs for nit-picky reasons or because only the perfect product can earn that 5th egg... I took an egg away because of the cable management. I knew going into the purchase that a few reviewers had trouble with the bar running down the back panel and had to cut some of the soundproofing foam to allow the case to close. This was an understatement. After running all my cables, getting everything zipped up and ready to go, it then took about an hour of reworking, cutting foam, reworking again, rerunning and a little more cutting foam to get the back panel to close. I recommend to all who buy this case to avoid using the bottom mobo tray slot to run your wires as the only way back through to the components runs across this bar. I had all my PSU cables running through and across the bar and am now down to 2 that fit very very tight. I knew it had been an issue but I didnt expect that level of problem from it.

Other Thoughts: My cable management issues aside, this is the best case I have ever owned. The airflow, layout and options for expansion really leave me wondering if I will ever be purchasing another case. It looks neat and clean sitting next to my desk and runs quietly which were my two biggest needs.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat case, but not perfect

Pros: There is a ridiculous amount of space inside of this beast. The sound foam is great, and it just looks amazing. I like the placement of the USB ports and the power button. The bars to carry it by also come in handy. The price was great and free shipping on a package over 40lbs is crazy. Newegg is great.

Cons: The sides will probably really annoy you when you try to put them back on. You have to get it just right. The stock fans really suck, but this was expected and they are easily replaceable. If you want fants cooling your hard drives, three of the bays do become useless. That is not a problem for me, but if anyone plans on have a lot of hard drives, that could be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I really love the case.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is my second of two existing Cosmos 1000 cases. I'd accumulated enough "old" parts that were still pretty good so I built a "old parts" gaming machine. These cases are so accessible/sturdy/well designed that I just couldn't pass up such a great sale item. I've got overclocked systems that "can" get hot, and in the summer my house can get to 90F, and it hellps to have the quick/easy option to remove the side panels for more air when I need etc. Really nice.

Cons: Its not exactly a con/but these are pretty big cases and if you need to squeeze this under/in between etc. You might not be happy. They're not inexpensive, but I bought this on sale with no shipping charges!

4 out of 5 eggsBig and quiet

Pros: This case is giant and easy to work inside. Everything stays cool with guided airflow. Most importantly, the big, slow fans and foam insulation make the case ultra quiet.

Comes with lots of extra stuff, even some zip ties!

Cons: It is near impossible to connect some of the internal hard drive bays using the supplied cables. Once you slide a tray into place, you don't have access to the rear of the drive so you have to connect the SATA cables (easy) and power cables (hard) before you insert the tray. That means you need 5" of slack on your cables. This is only a problem if you want to install more than 4 hard drives and can be easily solved by buying some power extension cables.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lots of room to put everything and anything...I mean everything...6 HD Slides, can run cables along the backside of the motherboard

Cons: The PSU mounts on the bottom, so you lose one case fan before you even start doing anything...
Not really a con, But needs to be stated up front for those people who count on air cooling instead of a water solution...

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lots of room, good design and look

Cons: bad cable managment, cant run my cables and keep then hiden without interferance from side pannels. Had a lot of trouble getting one side to stay closed.

The case has a nice idea for keeping sides on when it works, took me 30 min and some force to get one side to stay on

havnt found out if its the fans, or the HDD that are making a sound every so often, I feel that if i take my door off wont get it back on.

Other Thoughts: I would have prefered the solid black version, as not a huge fan of silver, but didnt see paying that much more just for black.

5 out of 5 eggsmy pc's new name is Behemoth

Pros: EVERYTHING
-space for just about anything and everything
-tons of extras, parts case, ties, screws, drive trays, filters, video card cooler
-fair price

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This thing is a beast. Zero limits with this case. spots for 5 internal fans and filters, 6 hdds, a video card cooler, 2 holes for running wires in/out of case.

This case is simple, ingenious, intuitive, and just fun to work with.

Get this case, its bells and whistles are louder than any other.

5 out of 5 eggsOverall, great product

Pros: Extremely large case. When I read the specs, I thought i imagined a big case. When it came however I saw I was mistaken. Much bigger than I originally anticipated.
Has very sturdy handles and feet to aid in moving. Though it is heavy, it is very easy to carry around. I just wouldnt recommend moving it up and down stairs several times a day. Might throw out your back.
Lots of room for fans. If you get creative you can fit in several fans in different spaces that dont have screw holes. I have installed a fan in front of the hard drives and have the second directional fan case that came with it blowing into the HDD compartement. Helps circulate the air and has a 2nd fan blowing onto the graphics card. I have also installed another fan in the 5.25 inch drive bay areas easily.
Lots of screws and a very fancy little screw case came with it. Mine came with several (about 9) cable routing tie downs, as well as a large amount of regular tie downs. Came with a 2nd directional fan mount as we

Cons: Some people were complaining that the 3.25 drive converter is difficult to remove but you just need the right tools. A cheap small screwdriver from the "evil empire (walmart)" was sufficient.
One con i have noticed is that in my particular case, a high RPM or aftermarket fan in the bottom intake on full causes an annoying vibration in the case which I have only been able to eliminate by some creative vibration reduction on the case parts that connect. A couple layers of electrical tape (in areas that are never seen) solved this problem. Annoying none the less.

Other Thoughts: Overall a very excellent case. With 7 fans installed the case is very quiet. In an older antec case i had with these same fans installed the system was quite loud. The noise reduction worked quite effectively.
Some people that complained about the hard drives getting to hot, but mine are hovering around a steady 32 degrees Celsius, several degrees cooler than my previous case. I have 4 HDDS installed with no problem.
Other complaints were sharp parts, etc. I had no problem with this though.
Some of the screws were loose in this case, had to go through and tighten up quite a bit, but thats just a minor little detail.
You will want to replace the stock fans with a couple of higher flow ones to make the case more effective.

4 out of 5 eggsCM Cosmos 1000

Pros: Large case, lots of room to easily install components, I like the HD rack system. Good cable management system. I like the polished silver look and the rails on top make it easy to mover around.

Cons: Not as quiet as I thought so I docked 1 star, though still not loud. About the same as my CM Storm Scout case. Case is very large so make sure you have room.

Other Thoughts: 4 USB ports on front top of case which is great except you need a MB with 3 internal USB headers if you also want a card reader. I only had two on my MB. No problem, just added a NZXT USB internal expansion hub.
Fan on bottom is not amenable for the case setting directly on carpet for optimal airflow.
